  1. Seeing a doc write morbidly obese was a real slap in the face wake up call. Being just overweight is definitely reason to celebrate!!!

    Consultation

An info session that is in a room with 50 people is usually free. If it's a one-on-one consult , then I would expect a fee, possibly an office visit charge if you actually meet the surgeon.

Fiddleman, I don't agree or disagree, the future will speak for itself. Scouts has been a fabulous program for my sons, one is Eagle, the younger is Star. They are fabulous young men. Of course, no bias there. :-) The being moral and reverent is still there, the words are just being redefined like marriage. Changing with the times. Girl Scouts does not have a position, but is an equally rewarding program.

It's funny you mention the Boy Scouts, Lynda. My sons have been Scouting for most of their lives, and it has thankfully not revolved around religion. But I did feel weird about it because we are not church goers and the whole Duty to God certainly is hard to ignore. I sent my boys to religious class just in case to feel like they complied and so they could make up their own minds. in any case, they both fully supported allowing gay scouts, along with so many other open minded people, which led to the changing policy. It will be interesting to watch the next generation deal with religion or lack thereof, as well. I don't not believe... it's nice to think somebody is listening to my innermost thoughts, but then again, maybe it's just an invisible friend. It's always an ongoing debate.

    in need of advice

I took my hubby with me to everything. He sat right in my surgeon's office and said to me "I don't understand why you need to do this. If you'd just eat less and move a little more..." My surgeon was the best person to explain why that just wasn't the case. He then attended a nut visit, another info seminar, a support group and my pre op day visit. When I hit panic mode on the way to the hospital, my hubby was the one who told me I was doing the right thing. I don't think I would have gone through it without him. Knowledge is power. Get him informed.

    Just had the GS...excited!

You have just, as they say, "hijacked the thread" by asking a new question off topic from the original post. Use the search function to help you browse for info that might better answer questions. Everyone has a different experience. My guess would be that if you've had surgery before and had poor reaction to anesthesia, then chances are good that you'll have a repeat performance. People also have varying differences in pain tolerance. Best of luck!
  8. Dreaming of some knee high boots! Must have been 30 years or better, I've been waiting to repeat that experience.

    eating

Your doc or nut should have given you portion sizes to start out. Mine was 1 1/2oz puréed Protein by volume in a glass measuring cup and 1 oz. of a veggie or fruit, also puréed. Start with the protein, eat very slowly, if room fruit or veggie. Your tummy will gurgle ALOT, this is normal. You will know when you should stop. Then DO NOT take that last bite, just cuz you will regret it. :-) If you finish all your food, you're done too. Good luck!

    Sleeve or lapband?

Asking that question on this board will get you a biased response because banders will all have had a revision... But as someone who went into this first looking at the band, I can say I asked my doc the question about getting stomach cancer. He said the result would probably be the same, sleeve or no sleeve. You'd lose your stomach either way. Do your research, talk to your surgeon. 99% sleeve lovers here. Use the search function, for immediate review of common questions such as this. Best wishes to finding what's right for you.

    protein shakes..... how long?

I only did shakes through liquid phase. Never found any I liked, so I phased them out. I drink 2-3 glasses of skim milk a day, plus what I eat to meet 63-78g of protein daily. It's never been a problem.

    hello:)

My doc said as long as I was comfortable turning to look behind me to back out, I could drive away from the hospital. And of course, not be on pain meds!

    hunger on post op liquid

I was hungry and my stomach made loud gurgling noises a lot! It gets better soon, so chin-up! Solid food will do wonders. There's light at the end of the tunnel!

    Shoe size

My feet were fat. And now they're skinnier just like the rest of me. I've worn crocs so long... and now I love trying on strappy heels!

    mayy sleeverss

My surgery was 5/17. I lost 45 lbs prior to surgery, and 30 since, but the last 30 have been much more noticeable (I'm wearing size 8 jeans today!). I try to stick to the plan. Lean meats, eggs, cheese, fruits and veggies. I have tried rice, bread, etc. occasionally and nothing seems to bother me. So much so that I ate an entire mini Cinnabon without any problem. But I was on vacation and I won't be doing that again anytime soon. I gave up shakes almost immediately and glad for it. I don't eat or drink particularly slow, just not together. No issues with Vitamins, grown to look forward to my "candy" chewable Calcium. My lab work numbers were all spot on and my Iron was so good I donated blood last week. No regrets here!

    Sleeping issues?

About night 4, but I did use plows to prop comfortably.

    NSV :

Starts with baby steps, right? Good for you!
  22. I did protein shakes while on liquids, but as soon as I moved to purée, it was all over for the shakes. Seafood, poultry dairy and beef from there on out. Milk helps a lot!

    Thank God for Chris Christy

Mauro, on The Cake Boss, had Lap Band surgery too recently. He's not Chris Christie, but it is interesting watching it all unfold as we watch.
