I'm a L&D nurse in Dallas and love my job! I am 8 days post op and have 3 weeks off of work!

You are probably dehydrated! I was having major issues w my mouth being dry and I couldn't drink anything because everything tastes horrible! Water tastes like dirt! I ended up getting IV fluids and I feel like a new person!

Bring a small pillow - I am 8 days post op and still sleep w mine.

Cyncity - I feel the same as u! I'm exhausted and totally dehydrated! Nothing sounds good and even worse is nothing tastes good! My mouth is so dry and all I want to do is sleep. I just wish I could fast forward a month! Are u feeling better? I'm trying hard to sip on crystal light but I know I'm not getting enough in. I used to love water but for some reason it tastes really bad now. I hope this phase goes by quickly!!!

Why does water taste so different to me? It tastes like dirt! I haven't been getting enough fluid and I know I'm dehydrated. I'm 6 days post op. how much fluid can y'all drink at a time? This is way harder than I thought it would be. I feel like I'm so tired and after I get up and shower I feel like I need a nap! I probably going to get an IV so I can get fluids to rehydrate - anyone else having these problems??

I haven't had a BM but I'm 5 days post op however I am very dehydrated and my mouth is so dry it is annoying. Should I go to the ER for an IV and fluids??? I know I haven't had enough liquids but I have had so much nausea and I've slept so much. What do u think???

I have 3. I'm day 4 post op and still feel awful! I try to drink but its hard. My mouth is so dry. The gas in my tummy hurts and I feel so nauseated. I have tried Popsicles but I can only suck on it for about 2 minutes. I just sent hubby to the store to buy me sonic ice and sugar free candy. Does anyone else feel like this??

Your info makes me feel much better. I'm only 3 days post op and feel really sore and weak! I have been taking my pain meds but am having a hard time w vitamins and fluid. I just had a Popsicle and I have to eat it really slow or it hurts! At least that counts for 3 oz. I've had 4 oz of water but I feel like when I swallow I get a big gas bubble!! I need to try those gas strips and see if they make a difference. My tummy is still so bloated, but I didn't have a drain. I did have an onq pain ball that helped w incisional pain but I took that out today and didn't even feel it!! I wish could fast forward 6 months or heck even a week!!! I know it will get better. I'm praying for my fellow sleevers!!

Ok fellow sleevers!!!! I just got home from the hospital, my surgery Monday, jan.7th. I was in horrible pain after surgery and all night. They have me dilauded and zofran and was still hurting so bad, but my nurse didn't giver anything else. Finally this morning the bariatric nurse practitioner came to see me and told me that it was unacceptable that I was still in pain. She have me Toradol and I felt like a new person! So my advice - ask for toradol right away!!!! Good luck!!!

Mine is tomorrow morning! I have to be at the hospital at 6am!!! I should be asleep but I just can't!! I'm nervous but more so I am excited!!! This forum has been such a great help!! Thx everyone for sharing!! Erin

This was my biggest fear! I was addicted to cokes!!! I should have stopped sooner but just couldn't! The night before my preop clear liquid diet started I had a huge coke from McDonald's and that was it!!! The next day I started my preop clears/protein shakes. By the end of day 1 I had a headache that wouldn't go away w Tylenol - day 2 I maxed out my Tylenol and ended up w a migraine. I finally got it under control w some hydrocodone. Day 3 - small headache and today is day 4 and I'm feeling fine. I don't know how much if the headaches are caused from not being able to eat or the caffeine withdrawal or a combination. If I were u I would start tapering down and get off of the sodas! You can't have them post surgery and they are horrible for u! Good luck!!! I totally understand!!!!

My doctor told me to buy Pepcid ac but it doesn't come in a chewable. What are other doctors recommending??

Congrats!! So inspiring!!! I have surgery scheduled for this Monday!! I'm so nervous, but reading all the positive stories helps so much!! How did u do it in 8 months - that seems fast!! I'm starting at about the same weight as u did and I would love to achieve the same results!! I have read a lot of posts about TTs - this worries me!!! Is it that bad after the weight loss?? Kind of scared!! I mean, I'm sure it's better than before but bad enough for TT???

How many incisions did y'all have?? My doctor said he would do 3, but I've heard of some people having 5. I'm scheduled for surgery in 5 days!! So nervous!!

Your post sounds as if I wrote it!! I am scheduled got surgery on Monday jan 7th - 5 more days!!! I nervous but more excited about my future!! This preop liquid diet is rough, yesterday I had a migraine and could not get it to go away!! Today is much better!! 7 days of nothing but Protein shakes and clear liquid is hard, but I know it is necessary!! I've already lost 7 lbs! Good luck!!

I'm on my preop full liquid diet now. I have to do it for 7 days prior to surgery! It's tough but I know it will be worth it. The train is die to the liver. If your liver is large and fatty there is a chance it will be lacerated during surgery and u don't want that to happen!!!

Do you have any suggestions for books to read?? I have surgery on jan. 7th and I have a small pamphlet of the diet to follow post op but I'd love to understand and research more!
