I only wish I had done this sooner. I am 7 months out and have my life back. I still have a way to go but know it is absolutely something do-able! What you are going through is normal. There are good days and bad ones, and fear of such a change is normal!! Trust in the decisions that got you here and in the doctor!! Let us hear from you.

@ccaramel27. I teach high school business and marketing. Was sleeved in December 2012 and was out Thursday, Friday and Monday. Went back on Tuesday to finish the semester. Don't go back that soon. Take at least a full week off. You don't even have food figured out in less than a week. I'm a Texas teacher, too.
  3. Thanks so much for the encouraging post. I, too, am a slow loser. I had decided it is because of my age (54). My doctor is okay with it, because I do consistently lose. I was sleeved 12-13-12. I have lost 70 pounds since surgery and 97 pounds total. I keep reminding myself that losing 97 pounds in less than a year is saving my life! Hopefully I am establishing habits that will last a lifetime and keep me healthy.
  4. Sleeved December 13. I am with everyone who says the protein drinks are terrible. I've tried several, and just keep choking them down in order to keep my protein up. I have tried adding different things to vanilla, and some of them seem to help. It is just so sickly sweet that I can't stand it. However, a 1/2 teaspoon of cocoa (cooking, unsweetened) takes the edge off, as does about the same amount of decaf instant coffee. Makes it a little bit easier to take. Good luck all. I will say that it gets easier. I'm still having trouble with getting all my liquid and protein in, but less trouble the farther out I get from surgery.

Read your post about complications. What a trouper! And still, you are so encouraging. Thanks! Hope you are truly on the mend now.
  6. Okay, so here goes. I had Gastric Sleeve surgery on December 13, 2012. It took me many years to admit I was not able to lose weight on my own. After 4 different doctors recommended weight loss surgery, I met with Dr. Daryl Stewart on November 9. He recommended VSG for me. I still have not admitted to most of my friends or any of my family that I had the surgery. My husband is super supportive, as are the very few friends who are aware I had the procedure done. The holidays were a little tough, but overall I have done well, except for a gas-y stomach making it hard to swallow anything - including water. I spend my waking moments trying to get enough water down to keep from being dehydrated. I added PhaZyme to my meals today, after reading some posts on this site, and it seems to be helping. I was the most comfortable I have been since surgery this afternoon. I have never been much of a "joiner", but finally had to admit that I need the support of people traveling a similar journey. I lost 18 pounds prior to surgery, and have since lost 15 pounds. So, keep posting, everyone. You never know when one of your posts helps someone else.
  7. Yes, I had the same OMG what have I done moment the day of surgery. I don't think I knew what a food addict I was. Driving around town and NOT stopping for a Dr. Pepper has been weird. There are still foods that I am working on "divorcing" in my head. Things that I know I should not have, and that I recognize as being a part of the problem. Just hang in there. Know there are others on the same path, and stay in touch if we can help encourage you.
  8. WOW, this has been really helpful. I, too, chose to keep my surgery to myself. I (of course) told my husband, and my hairstylist, who had DS in November. I also told as few people at work as I could in order to secure the time off I needed. When I began doing research about WLS, I got so many opinions from other friends and family that I just felt like it was a decision and a life change that I wanted to make, and while it would be nice to have the support, the ultimate success was up to me. It seemed like everyone knew someone with a "bad" story, or knew a better diet than the jillion others I had tried.....
