I have a surgery date!! July 10th! But I'm still not getting my hopes up because it always seems like something falls through, I have already had 3 different surgery dates and it hasn't worked out yet. This time I'm afraid my loan is going to fall through because on my loan application it asked for patient income and I put my entire household income. Now with everything being processed I need to supply proof of income, which I can for my household income, it isn't like I lied about that, but I think they may have just wanted my own personal income and that probably wouldn't make me eligible for the loan anymore.

Needing a passport within 3 weeks?!
mlecompte posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
What do you think the best option would be to get a passport before three weeks, and honestly I would like to have it in about 2 weeks because I will be anxious if it gets into the third week and I haven't gotten it yet! I can either order my passport and expedite it. Or I can wait another week then set up an appointment in a passport office (an hour from my home) where they guarantee you can pick up (another 2 hours round trip +2 tanks of gas total) your passport within 5 business days. I believe both ways cost the same because the appointment is free and they still charge the expedited fee. -
Help me convince people Mexico is safe
mlecompte posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Ok I am writing this post to show my parents and my husband that Mexico is a safe and GOOD option for weight loss surgery. My parents are in the medical field and I know when they find out I want to go to Mexico they will just completely count it our without finding out more about it, they already freaked out when I told them I was going to California for the Surgery. I was hoping to have this link set up where I can come directly here and have them read s few peoples first hand experiences having surgery in Mexico. Any information would be great, how much you researched, anything about the trip, the surgery itself and how your recover was there in Mexico, outcome after returning home. Also feel free to copy and paste other posts you have already written about your experiences or post the links to your post. Thanks SOOOOO Much!!! -
Who has gone to Mexico alone…or would you?
mlecompte posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
The entire time we have been planning this we just figured my husband would come with me. But He started a new job last week and is thinking it will be hard to get time off of work. On top of that we thought we could save about $100 on an expedited passport for him, about $500 for a plane ticket and maybe $200 on food and other things he would be paying for while he was there. So we could save about $800 by having him not come with me and I don't think the money is the main problem anyway that is just a bonus of him not coming. We wouldn't have to leave our kids with my parents and we wouldn't have to worry about getting off of work. I'm just a little worried about it, I told him people do go along, so I was looking for some insight from people who have gone to TJ alone, did you feel safe, did everything go as planed? Did you feel sufficient on your own post surgery in the hotel? Also another silly question how do you get in contact with people in the US while you are in Mexico because he already told me he would want to hear from me several times a day. -
At What Weight Limit Did You Say "you Have Had Enough"?

Getting on my scale after not weighing myself for about 6 months after having a baby, and weight more than when I was 9 months pregnant, over 200lbs (208lbs) now down to 198ish on my own…will never see 200 again…can't wait to be sleeved! (I'm only 4'11) -
Newbie here, how did you all pay for surgery? Finance?
mlecompte replied to jenjer007's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I understand when you are ready to have surgery you are just ready…because I am! I am a teacher so I have to get surgery this summer or else I will have to wait an entire year again to get it! I have been trying to go through this process with insurance for over 2 years now and I have decided I am just going to go to Mexico. I am getting a raise this year so I will be able to afford the payments. I would rather finance the surgery now and just make payments every month rather than try to save and save and save, plus if I have the extra money to save then I would end up spending some of it…because thats how I am. So I also have bad credit because my husband was laid off a year and we were struggling with paying things on time, but he has had a job now for 2 years and we have been paying things on time but it take a long time to get your credit built back up. I didn't even qualify for personal loan through a bank and I didn't have a co-signer either. So I will be using Medical Financing. Yes they are charging me a fee of $995 but it is worth is to me. My surgery expense is $5200, plus the $995. My loan is interest free for one year though, so of course I will try to pay it off before then but if I don't I'm ok with that also. If I just pay on my loan the entire time by the time I pay it off the cost will be $7500, plus the $995 I had to pay in fees, so about $8500 total. This is a completely reasonable amount to me. If I was trying to have surgery here in the US it would be about 20k. Some places in MX cost $8500 just for the surgery. I am going with my first choice of surgeon and I did not base this on the cost. So like I said IF I take the entire term to pay off my loan plus the $995…it will only cost $8500…totally worth it to me! -

I am hoping to get some information about the affordable health care act in regards to weight loss surgery, I am not familiar with this at all. Here is my story in a little nutshell. I was all scheduled approved and ready for surgery, one week before my surgery date I was denied and told I should have never been approved and it was their mistake. I have been researching MExico but do not have the funds saved up and honestly it would take me a few years to save up that much money (I am a mother of three and live paycheck to paycheck) I am been looking into financing but my credit is not great. I got approved with a medical financing company but need over $2000 still for a deposit, I can probably come up with $1000 in a reasonable amount of time and then borrow the other $1000 from my parents (if I can get them on board for going to Mexico) but I was just reading a little bit and was wondering if there is any chance that weight loss surgery would be covered when this affordable health care act kicked in. I live in Colorado, I saw there were already certain states that were going to be excluded but does anyone know about this or know how I can find out more information about this? THANKS!!

I just wanted to post this link because I want to show her story to convince them also… http://www.gastricsleeve.com/forum/gastric-sleeve-surgery-in-mexico/31566-a-review-tijuana-vertical-sleeve-gastrectomy-doctor-kelly-and-me.html -
I just started talking with Lora, I heard some story about someone who worked with a coordinator and they got their hotel downgraded last minute when they were already there, I'm sure this happens very rarely but I would rather just work directly with them anyway.

I am trying to find information about the Dr's that do the surgery in Vegas, I believe they are surgeons from Mexico but they come up and charge more just because it's in the United States. Does anyone know anything about this?
-
Ok I'm going to be sitting down with my parents and asking them for the $$ really soon, there is a good chance they would let me borrow the money...but I'm afraid they are going to flip out when they hear it is in Mexico and then tell me no way... What would be the best thing to show them, to tell them....??????????????

I can't pick a Dr! Help!
mlecompte replied to mlecompte's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Well I have to wait to have surgery until I am done teaching for the school year anyway and I don't feel I am over thinking it as it is my life we are talking about... I was going g to go with a Dr., my friend used but she got a bad infection and had to get parts of her intestines removed and is now in pretty bad shape. I guess anyone could get an infection from anywhere also though. But I have heard some horror stories and want make sure I don't end up anywhere like that. As for the money I applied for 7000 so I would like to stay around nd or below that price. -
I will be getting Cigna soon, what does this exactly mean?? How can I find out with my surgeons are three starts, (or did youmean stars, how do you find that out)??
