Happy New Year everyone! 14 daysss! :)

When you say liquid, there are 2 types, a clear liquid diet and full liquid. Not sure which you will be on but typically ppl are on clear first then full liquid. For clear liquid I had: Chicken/Beef Broth G2 or Vitamin Water (for the electrolytes) Jello Herbal Tea (Chamomile did wonders for my stomach) Once I progressed to full liquid (the liquid should roll off spoon like milk) 100 calorie greek yogurt that has been thinned with skim milk and strained to remove fruit seeds/bits Cream soups (potato, cheese, broccoli) that are made with skim milk, and then thinned with skim milk and strained I made peanut butter bananna smoothies using skim milk, greek yogurt, banana, and PB2 (powdered peanut butter) IT WAS DELISH (just strain first) Also Trop 50 OJ cut with 50% water has been a great way for me to get a big old scoop of protein powder down in the morning. I've also had Coco wheats made with skim milk, thinned with skim milk and a little sweetener. Don't go out and buy a ton b/c you are going to be shocked at how little you can actually consume!! I'll be moving to puree/soft foods in about a week so I'll let you know what stuff seems to work well for that stage

    Post-Op 12/20/12

Fellow athlete here! Sleeved 12/24 down 20lbs so far. I am with you on the tying shoes thing. Even being heavy I did manage to continue with Softball and I took up golf this summer. I am so excited to show up for practices this spring and feel what it's like to run the bases without all this extra weight. It's been so long I can't remember!!!!

    Psych Eval

Mine consisted of an interview with the dr and then a bunch of scantron type tests. The questions are SO repetitive, they're really just looking to see if you answer consistantly. One of the questions was are you actually reading these questions LOL Just answer consistantly!

    tiredness catching up!

I feel your pain. I'm 8 days out and today I had to go up and lay down during the middle of visiting with family. I promptly fell asleep for almost 2 hours. I know that I'm not getting enough protein or liquid but I physically can't injest any more than I already am! I have 6 days left on liquid and I cannot wait for it to be over already. I am scheduled to see the Dr Monday and plan to ask about getting a nurse to come to my house and give me an IV. I'm so dehydrated!

11 days post op; down 20 pounds

Congrats!! I just had a little victory myself I dropped down into the 250's today. That's 18 lbs lost in my first week from surgery, 29 including my pre-op diet!! This is awesome! I hope I can get to where you are with the 50oz of water, but right now I have to choose protein or water. I find myself doing protein one day and fluids the next. I'm sure it will get easier to get in what I need, I keep having to remind myself I'm only ONE week out. Still...18 is not bad for ONE week :)

    Heparin shots at home

The needle that you use to inject the Heparin is TEENY TINY!!! It's so small that you can barely feel it when it breaks the skin. You usually have to inject into your thighs, so it's really easy to give it to yourself. Be brave it's nothing compared to everything else we have to go through!

    one month pics

Looking good!!! Keep up the great work. I just had one of those NSV's today when I put on a shirt and realized that it fit me completely different and make me look skinny! Feels great!

    Discomfort when eating

When they removed most of our stomach, they removed about 85% of the tissue that creates the amino acid Grehlin- the cause of "hunger". By about 30 days post op most all of that should be out of our systems. If you are experiencing "hunger" I suggest taking an acid reducer, as what you are most likely experiencing is not hunger at all, but the symptoms of high levels of acid as they are identical! Give it a try and see what happens!

    Yawning?

Ok so this may be completely unrelated to my sleeve, but I'm 6 days post op and today I have not been able to stop yawning. I'm talking like 20+ times an hour off and on all day. It's almost like I just can't get enough air. Anyone else experienced anything like this??

your last meal before pre op ?!

Lucky duck! It was my employer's requirement for insurance to cover it. I'm glad I had to do it, it gave me 6 months to make sure this was what I really wanted to do, and introduced me to a lot of new (healthy!) foods that I now love. It also helped me drop some weight prior to surgery. I have heard a lot of people not only had to do a diet, but had to do LIQUID diets before!! I would've died lol

your last meal before pre op ?!

Ummmm heck yea!!! My surgeon actually encouraged it. One week prior to surgery I ate a nice steak and mac n cheese from J. Alexanders. The night before my actual surgery I had my favorite pizza. Other than that I really stuck to my diet b/c I found as the 6 months went on that I really liked healthier foods. The diet was what really forced me to try some new things.

    Before and after

You look effing fabulous!!! we have VERY similar body shapes so I can only hope to look like you in a few months. Looks like you didn't lose all your boobs either...awesome!!! I am crossing my fingers however I feel like the 15lbs I've lost this week has come straight from them! hahaha Congrats lady keep it up you look amazing.

    Certain foods and changes

I noticed that I started having that prior to surgery. I think it was the 6 month diet. I literally cut out all soda and all fast food. I started experimenting with healthy foods and found some stuff that I love. Now when I have a food craving it's for hummus or bruschetta or cottage cheese and peaches. And of course I can't eat any of that yet Right before my surgery I splurged and ate a steak which was awesome, but then I also tried a Wendy's cheeseburger and McDonalds fries which I have always loved, and they both tasted awful to me!!!!

    Yawning?

Yes stressed, live next to crazy neighbors and today they threatened my life and I had to call the police. Haven't yet started my Vitamins b/c I didn't have the chewable ones yet and the regular ones were way too big to swallow. I bought chewable vitamins today and so I am just starting that. Just thought it was weird it's lasted all day. Just feel like I can't breathe deep enough. I'm going to use my incentive spirometer as i'm laying in bed and see if that helps any. Thanks

    hot chocolate

Make sure you make it with skim milk not water! Also if you have it, throw a TBSP of nonfat dry milk powder in there. It makes it so creamy and delish and FULL of protein!!!
  18. This may seem random but try taking an acid reducer and see if that relieves the feeling. Have heard a lot of ppl say that often lots of acid can replicate the symptoms of hunger. Your stomach may feel better after eating due to the fact that there is now food in there to absorb/soothe the extra acid. Worth a shot!

    Post Op Day 7

I'm a 12/24 sleever! I'm doing ok although I'm feeling a little dehydrated as I have been having a hard time getting all liquid in. Actually I haven't been able to get much in at all compared to what they say I should be having. I was told to have 3 6oz "meals" and 2 4oz "snacks" per day with 16 oz of Water in between each. At most I have been able to do 3 4oz meals and 16oz of water in a day. When I try to do more than that I get sick and spit stuff back up. I'm assuming I still have some swelling, and I also had a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time. I've been trying to sip G2 today in the hope that I can hydrate myself a little better. I will say I'm happy with the 15lbs lost so far!!!
  20. I didn't go for 4 days after leaving hospital. Once I did it was very runny, and yes, the smell is beyond bad. LOL. I've been going once a day, not very much, and is very soft. I have not been using anything, but will probably start some fiber.
  21. I am sure you will be fine. My surgeon did not require me to do anything other than continue with my regular diet program in the weeks before surgery. At no point did I have to do any liquids prior to surgery. I ate pizza the night before I was sleeved and it was awesome.

why so long from approval to actual surgery? That seems excessive. I got my Insurance approval Dec 12 and had surgery Dec 24.

    Low blood pressure scare

Ha that is weird!! I'm stumped. I guess just keep an eye on it thoughout the day and check it each morning to see how it compares. Hopefully it straightens itself out.

    Low blood pressure scare

Low blood pressure can be a signal of dehydration...along with the weak feeling... not to be gross but what's your pee like?
