It ain't so! They do cover. I had to list all of my attempts to lose weight, the weight I lost and regained. I saw the surgeon on Jan 20th, he gave me a list if things I needed to do...psych consult, GI consult for EGD, medical clearance, cardiac clearance and pulmonary clearance and he sent me for a sleep study since I had no other co morbidities and my BMI was 37. I was positive for sleep apnea so that's why I was approved.

I finally got the nerve to call my insurance company to see if I was approved. They said as long as they receive the letter of medical necessity, it's a covered expense, so no problems! I'm amazed how easily it was!

I had my surgery Friday and came home Saturday. My surgeon said that my spleen was large and boggy. It bled during the surgery and I lost 1300mls of blood. They gave me a unit of blood in the OR, a plasma expander and 4 liters of fluid. All in all, I feel Good. Normal post op pain and very tired (probably from low hemoglobin). I'll see the surgeon in a week and then I guess I'll need to follow up on this spleen issue.

My PCP. My surgeon has a pre-filled form stating all the key words needed and all my PCP had to do was fill in my co-morbidities (only sleep apnea) and sign the form.

My husband always says "I like 'em thick...you're perfect just the way you are". I know he means it as a complement but I secretly cringe whenever he says it!

Your story brought years to my eyes! My surgery date is Friday and I've been having last minute jitters about if I really am doing the right thing. Now I know I am!

I'm scheduled for surgery next week and just wanted to clarify about water intake. I have stocked up on Isopure clear liquid protein drink but can that also be considered my water intake also?

Gastric Sleeve Surgery Date Set.....low Bmi
taylokat replied to Texasgirl73's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
No, I'm in NJ with Dr. Sadek -
Reverse cowgirl on the steps??? Damn, my luck I'd fall down the steps and break a leg...try to explain THAT to the ER!
-
Hospitals need to make up the costs from when they treat people with no insurance. Lots of people with no insurance go to the ER with problems that should be in a doctors office but they know the ER will treat them even if they can't pay. Then if they get admitted, the hospital takes care of them regardless if they can pay or not. So they try and recoup their losses. It's a shame.

Welcome! I have only told my husband and children (they are young adults). Other family members would disagree with my decision and try to talk me out of it. I actually work in a surgery area where this surgery is done often and last year I mentioned I was thinking about it and I got bombarded with negative comments. I never brought it up again. After the new year I dropped my insurance so I only have my husbands coverage... Taking 1 1/2 weeks vacation time starting this Friday the 12th... My surgery date... at at different hospital, of course!!

How do you deal with sabotage and negativity from others?
taylokat replied to DecoGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That's terrible. My primary doctor, who I have known for 25 years, doesn't personally agree with my decision but as my doctor he supports me and respects my choice. He certainly doesn't make me feel like I have made a bad choice! -
You got me good..., I work in an operating room and my first thought was...wrong site surgery how terrible!!!

4 weeks post op no weight list in a week
taylokat replied to staceysassygal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you have hit a stall. From what I have read, it's very normal at this stage. Just remember to get enough protein and water... Your body will catch up and you'll start losing again! -
