My NUT said I shouldn't fear the purée stage. It's easy to combine purée and soft foods. Just chew really good. I sometimes miss pigging out on chips and junk food but all I need to do is step on the scale and u no longer miss it... Nothing tastes as good as 35 lbs gone!

April Sleevers..... how much have you lost so far?
taylokat replied to toni123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
20 lbs in one month is fantastic! I was never able to lose like that pre-surgery and I'm guessing you didn't either! My weight loss is slower than many others but our journeys are different so that's OK! -

Jealousy brings out the worst in people. Especially people who we thought were our friends but obviously aren't! -

Pain when drinking
taylokat replied to Craving2BaHealthyMommy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, small sips is the key. I took maybe 15cc's (1/2 oz) every 20 minutes the first few days. Every day I was able to slowly increase the amount. -

Please focus on fluids....that's the most important thing right now for your kidneys and for your body to fight any infection. During the surgery your Spleen needs to be separated from your stomach. You said you lost some blood supply to the spleen? That shouldn't be a problem now, as the body has ways of compensating for this. When my spleen tore and bled, my surgeon patched it up and even though I will have scar at tissue there and that area is damaged, my spleen will work normal. -

Isopure saved me the first week post op! It's not the best tasting stuff but it covers proteina and fluids. I promise it gets better. I had a problem with my spleen during my surgery. It started bleeding and I lost 1300ml's of blood and had to get a blood transfusion. It freaked me out that I really could have bled to death on the table but I'm 6 weeks post op now and feeling great. Straight water is still a little rough to get down so I drink lots of vitamin water zero. Focus on your fluids and every day you will feel better! -

Sounds normal to me! By 3 weeks I was able to drink a shake fairly quickly. Not gulp it, but it would be gone in 10-15 minutes

Ideas for what to tell people?
taylokat replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I an an RN in a recovery room and we do lots of WLS. I mentioned to my co-workers last year I was thinking of VSG. I couldn't believe all the negative comments. "You're not fat enough" (my BMI was 36) "that's so extreme you would be stupid to do it", "we know people can die from it so why would you do it" "Just go back to weight watchers". We have has hospital employees have the surgery and they are judgmental of them too.... So I knew enough to shut my mouth. I used my husbands insurance and had it done at a different hospital. I only needed one week off from work, so I took vacation time. My husband and children know. Bottom line, It's nobody else's business. My job is not to be a spokesperson. My priority is ME!! -

Does anyone feel like they can eat anything at 5wks
taylokat replied to emr80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at almost 4 weeks and I feel like I can eat anything as long as I chew well and eat slow. I had a sparerib from Famous Daves's today and it didn't bother me at all. I could have eaten more but I stopped myself. I even had some potato chips. I'm sure I could have eaten more but I stopped myself at 10. I think the sleeve will work for me as long as I use it the right way. I haven't had pizza yet but when I do, I plan in eating the topping and nit the bread. I do feel the restriction when I'm full. Do you feel that? -
Runs after first real food?
taylokat replied to dansgem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it happened to me too. I was told by my NUT to introduce one food daily and that's been working great for me. -
anyone's family waiting for them to fail?
taylokat replied to devonmae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a nurse who works in the recovery room and we have post op sleeve patients all the time. When I told my co-workers I was thinking about it, I couldn't believe all the negativity...mostly from the thin nurses who never struggled. Some if the heavier ones, too. So I learned to shut my mouth. I dropped my benefits for the brew year so I can use my husbands benefits. I was sleeved on 4/12 and have lost 20 lbs including my ore op diet.(surgery done at a different hospital). I'm telling them portion control and healthy eating... No processed garbage. They don't need to know anything more! -
Once I left the hospital I hardly needed anything. I had liquid Tylenol with codeine, it just made me sleep a little.

Thus sounds good. Do you cook it in the oven or just eat it cold? -
Eating two days post op
taylokat replied to girlrfriday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That would happen to me and I would just take smaller sips. I could only tolerate maybe 15mls (1/2oz) every 20-30 minutes -

I'm so sorry to hear what you have been thru! I often hear that a hernia is repaired when having sleeve surgery. Is there any reason why your surgeon didn't repair your hernia with the original surgery? -

Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?
taylokat replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Iggychick, I'm sorry for your loss and for everything you went thru. I'm also considered a low BMI (36-37) and the only reason my insurance covered it was because I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I had no other health problems and no family history. I was sleeved on the 12th. My surgeon said that during the surgery my spleen was soft and boggy. It tore during the surgery and I lost 1300 mls of blood. They gave me one unit of blood, a plasma expander and 4 liters of fluid. The surgery took about 3 hours. I'm home now but I'm terrified of developing a leak or a clot, since they stopped all blood thinners. I have nightmares of bleeding to death on the table. I'm only 3 days post op but if you ask me now do I regret it.... Absolutely! My kids need their mom even if they are "older", 22, 20 and 14. Nothing is worth that risk. -
I hope you have a private room. My hospital stay was miserable because I had a roommate. Visitors can be so loud and inconsiderate. Praying for a quick recovery!
