  1. I was in overnight. Longest night ever..way to noisy for me to sleep. Once I got home I was fine. Back to work on post op day 10 with no problems!
  2. Very normal. Same thing happened to me. It got better when I started full liquids. I didn't take anything, just let my body work it out. I think it's our digestive track getting used to the new, smaller stomach.
  3. Congratulations! I work in a Same Day Surgery Center/PACU. I only took one week off from work. I sip my protein shake all morning. No problems. You'll do great!
  4. I only told my husband and children also. People argue all the time about "secrets" and "Shame". It has nothing to do with that. The bottom line is, it's nobody's damn business! I don't live my life as an open book so why would i disclose personal medical issues? Also, I don't care to hear people's opinions because most would say I didn't need it...I say walk in my shoes before judging! Believe me, most people I know who freely tell about their weight loss surgery are surrounded by people who claim to be happy for them, yet trash talk them behind their backs!
  5. Tragic story but one that needs to be told. I am sorry.

    I'm a leaker

I've never heard of actually preventing a leak but the best thing to do is follow your diet instructions, and be aware of what your body is telling you. Some pain is normal, extreme pain is not. Temp over 100.4 is bad, high heart rate (over 100 at rest) is bad.

    "Hair" Today, Gone Tomorrow...

Wow RJ I'm so sorry you were so sick! It makes simple hair loss a trivial problem! I pray everything gets better for you from now on.

    Scale is my enemy

I'm 4 months post op and weigh myself only once weekly. I've never had a "stall" because I am able to see trends...every 4 weeks I don't lose. Obviously it's a hormonal thing. Weighing every day plays mind tricks. People go just a few days without losing and think they are at a stall. What happens when you gain? You stop eating, right? Then you stop losing because you don't take in enough calories. It's a vicious cycle! I also take my measurements every 4 weeks. (I've lost 8 inches from my waist!!)
  10. You must stick to it. I cheated and had bleeding issues during my surgery. My BP dropped dangerously low and I needed an emergency blood transfusion. We're the two related? Possibly...probably. I'm happy to say no other problems, I'm 4 months out and have lost 53 pounds. Don't cheat, it's not worth it!

    Long trip snacks

Turkey Jerkey is my favorite to snack on
  12. Take your measurements also! I weigh myself only once weekly and I take my measurements every 4 weeks. So far I have lost 7 inches off my waist and 6 off my hips, It really motivates me when I feel like the scale isn't moving fast enough!
  13. I'm 15 weeks and never had a stall. About every 4 weeks I have a week with no loss, but the next week is a big loss. I'm sure that's hormonal. Weighing once weekly has been a godsend. It's easy to track patterns. I would be a wreck if I weighed every single day, there's no way to track trends. That's crazy!

    Too "small" for surgery?

It amazes me how many healthcare workers will tell people "you don't look big enough for that surgery". When we started doing bariatric surgery at our facility, the bariatric surgeon gave all the nurses in the OR/Recovery Room an informational session about bariatric surgery. The first rule he said is NEVER say that to a patient! He said that they did a lot of work to get to the day of surgery and patients find it very insulting. How true!!!

    Too "small" for surgery?

My BMI was 36-37. I'm 5'10" and weighed 252. Diagnosed with sleep apnea. My insurance covered it so that's my proof that I was big enough!! Surgery was 4/12 and today I am down to 202.8. I only told immediate family. No friends, no co-workers. Tired of the negativity from them!

    Sleeve Size

The only reason I know my size is because I read it in my operative report. He used a size 40! Now I always thought that was large but I have such restriction, when I'm full, I'm full! Much less complication rate with a larger size and he overs-sees the staple line so when he is done, my stomach is the size of a highlighter marker. I've list over 45 lbs in 13 weeks...35 more pound till goal!

    Pre-op diet differences...

Yes but I am always Leary of any place that pushes their own protein drinks. Premiere Protein from Costco is a great source. What makes the hospital shakes so much better? The $ it brings in! Also, I had a one week clear liquid diet post op and I think it was the best thing for me. Full liquids would have been way to heavy that first week. I have had nausea only once when I ate too fast and didn't chew well. No vomiting at all! I'm 3 months post op.

    Any Nj Sleevers

I'm in Central NJ. Sleeved on 4/12 at Centrastate. I'm down 45lbs and feel great! Just remember to focus on water and protein. Seeing a NUT is helpful too. I still just focus on 800 calories, 64 oz water and at least 60gms protein daily. Keep it simple!

    The Scale

I weigh in once a week, every Friday. I'm 12 weeks post op and can honestly say I don't feel like I have hit a stall yet simply because of weighing once a week. I have a pattern where every 4 weeks I won't lose anything but that definitely a hormonal thing, not a stall. 45 lbs lost and 8 to go before I hit Onderland! Oh and I take my measurements once every 4 weeks. That helps a lot....7 niches off my waist, 3 inches off my thigh and 6 inches off my hips!
  22. I work in the recovery room and we've had a few nurses come in for the surgery. All info is confidential and all the nurses seem to get lots of support when they come back to work. Me, personally, I went to a different hospital because the nurses I work with are surprisingly very judgmental. Nice to the patients face then rolls their eyes behind their back.
  23. Just keep walking as much as you can. I promise it will pass soon and you'll feel better!
  24. Lol I made the gm/oz mistake too! Oops sorry!
