Tall Women, Tell Me Your Story!
taylokat replied to AshleyMidwife's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm 5'10", starting weight was 252. I'm 8 months post op and now 179, my goal is 170 because that will put my BMI under 25. Currently my BMI is 25.8. If I never lost another pound I'd still be the happiest person in the world! I'm wearing size 10 jeans (sometimes size 8) and medium tops. I finally feel NORMAL!! -
Why Do We Dehydrate After Being Sleeved?
taylokat replied to topgun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You seem to be doing the right things, just keep tracking your water. Vitamin Water Zero goes down so much easier than regular water. So does SoBe Life Water. I mix syntrax nectar Lemmon tea with one packet of Crystal light and 3-4 Cups of water -
One thing I learned is when shopping for clothes I need to wear Spanx or control top pantyhose otherwise it can get still get depressing! So much nice having a smooth line rather than seeing the bulge of loose skin at my waistline!

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
taylokat replied to Need-a-Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I only took 10 days off... One week vacation plus the weekend before and the weekend after, so my co-workers thought I just had a week vacation I took at home. Taking 4 weeks off will be hard to explain without completely lying. -
Your body just needs time to catch up. Be patient. I also found taking my measurements once a month helps... It's nice to see those numbers go down.

Keep it up Nancy, it's all worth it!

Any Nurses Out There Getting Sleeved? Fmla
taylokat replied to SueRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats Pepper, this is the start of an amazing journey! -
That's a good idea... I might switch to once a month now, on the 12th of each month, since my surgery was April 12th

Best and worst "compliments"
taylokat replied to Healthier2day1227's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
People can be so ignorant! You deserve an apology but you probably won't get one. Now that I'm down 70 lbs I have enough confidence to keep negative people at a distance, -
Best and worst "compliments"
taylokat replied to Healthier2day1227's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Yesterday a co worker told me my face has too many wrinkles now and I look sickly. I told her "with friends like you I don't need any enemies" and I walked away. Another person who I haven't seen in a while said "you've gotten so thin, are you ok?" But on a happy note my daughter came home from college and said "wow mom you look great!" -
Also do yourself a big favor and weigh yourself once a week! You'll go crazy and become obsessed if you weigh every day!
-
Too young? No way! I wish I did this in my 30's! I went back to work on post op day 10 and by 6 weeks I was cleared for anything I wanted to do. I have no regrets at all!!

Rushed to hospital 5 days post op
taylokat replied to Andrew0929's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He was feeling weak, and by the time he got to the ER his BP was dangerously low....he had internal bleeding but by the time they took him for surgery the bleeding stopped so they don't know exactly where the bleeding was from. -

taylokat replied to Andrew0929's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Andrew, during my surgery my spleen started bleeding and I needed a blood transfusion. Thankfully it was during the surgery and not after so I didn't need a 2nd surgery like you, but my recovery has been totally uneventful. I'm 8 months post op, 73 lbs down with only 9 left until goal. I promise thinks will only get better from here! -
Anyone go back to work two weeks after surgery?
taylokat replied to Phillyphan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went back on post op day 10 and I'm a nurse. No problems other than needing a little nap when I got home that first week. Sip water all day! I found that wearing a flexes or spandex type of undergarment under my scrubs helped a lot! -
Add me to the belchers also! I think I tend to eat too fast and swallow air because I usually burp after I eat, not when I drink.

There's not much difference from the bougie sizes. I also had a 38 (8 months ago). The larger the size, the less complication rate. When I eat carbs and slider food I can eat enormous amounts but if I stick to dense protein like I should be doing, I feel restriction. I'm told that the entire fundus (the part that stretches) is removed no matter what size bougie is used and if your stomach stretches back it's because the surgery was done incorrectly.

How did you get a copy of your own surgery?

Top Secret: Who did you tell?
taylokat replied to w8loser's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my husband, my 3 children (ages 23, 21 & 14), my brother and his wife, and one close friend. 7 people total. Nobody at work and no other family. Sometimes I'm sorry I can't freely talk about it and there's a few people I would like to tell now but for the most part I'm not sorry. Too many judgmental people, too many people that would be watching what I eat. I'm 8 months out and still feel it's nobody's business. -

Andrew I'm saying prayers for you also. You'll look back on this one day and say "What a bad weekend, remember when...." -
I agree 100%

What Is Skinny Anyways?
taylokat replied to LipstickLady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The problem with the pics is when I finally get to 35% (which is the one I liked the most) I won't look like that because of all my extra skin -
I think we should agree to start off with *Caution, Spoiler Alert*.......then post the spoiler.

Long Term Health Issues With The Sleeve
taylokat replied to scarlet333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It would be pretty rare to puncture the tiny stomach once it's all healed....they would really have to shove the nadir-gastric tube in and if it's done properly it's gently inserted. As far as the cancer risk, I figure my odds of getting something worse would be far greater If I didn't lose 70 lbs post sleeve! -
Best Hot Cocoa Protein Drink
taylokat replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I tried the premiere protein today, warmed it in the microwave. One minute, stirred, then another minute. It was the best hot chocolate ever!
