    I feel like a liar

I took one week vacation time and went back on post op day 10 also. No complications. I was on full liquids the first few days so I just had plain lowfat yogurt for lunch, then threw half of it away because I couldn't eat a full container yet!
  4. I was in the same situation. I work in the PACU and I hear nasty judgmental comments about the bariatric patients so I chose to keep my mouth shut. I only took one week off (vacation). I had sleeve surgery at a different hospital. I've lost 77 lbs and I am 5 away from goal. Best decision I made was to tell just my husband, kids, brother and one close friend. That's it. I have found people, especially coworkers, will be nice and supportive to your face yet talk nasty behind your back. Screw them all. Now I hear them talk about how jealous they are at my weight loss. They really have no clue. Jokes on them! LOL!
  5. I also had no issues being alone. I actually enjoyed the peace and quiet!

Did you keep it a secret?

I'm sorry to hear that but try not to let it bother you. Maybe it's for the best because sometimes it's very difficult for me to not be able to talk about it with my friends. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

    No drain tube after VSG?

My surgeon doesn't normally put a drain in but during my surgery my spleen bled. I needed a blood transfusion so he put the drain in just to monitor for further bleeding. I also had a foley overnight since they were giving me massive IV fluids. The foley came out the next day and I went home with the drain. He removed it one week later at my post op visit. He didn't warn me or anything that it would hurt...I screamed and nearly passed out!
  9. I took mine off the next day. I had no nausea but was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open. Apparently that's a side effect.

Tall Women, Tell Me Your Story!

Our stats are very similar. I'm 174-177 with a goal of 70. I couldn't imagine 150! Please send pics!!
  11. Hang in there Lumpy. Once you start going down in size you will be amazed how you are going to skip right past some of those sizes. For me, I felt very uncomfortable in anything that felt just a little snug on me because I was so used to bigger clothes to hide the bulges. It WILL happen, I promise!
  12. I guess you could say I'm half the size I used to be! Started off with a tight 16, now I'm a comfortable 8. Shirts were 1X, now Medium. Love my sleeve!

Did you keep it a secret?

Also, I only took one week vacation from work. I went back to work on post op day 10. No problems et all!

Did you keep it a secret?

I have also kept my surgery private. My husband and 3 kids are aware. The day before my surgery my husband made me tell my brother. His logic was that if something bad happened to me my brother could tell my family. I understood that. I work in a recovery room and I see how judgmental some of my coworkers are. MyBMI was 35-36 (borderline) I didn't want to hear how I wasn't fat enough and I could just go to Weight Watchers. I did loose 60 lbs with them in 2001-2002. It took 10 years but I gained it all back plus another 10lbs. I'm almost 10 months post op now, 77 lbs down and 5 from goal. Still sticking to telling people portion control and exercise, just leaving the surgery part out. Nobody's business but mine!

    low carb pancakes

Sounds tasty and easy! How much of each?
  16. I chew gum all the time. My surgeon said gum is fine as long as I don't swallow it!

    Any Jersey Sleevers?

I know exactly what you mean. My roommate had visitors and they talked all evening. The nurse found me with my pillow over my head. I was so tired but couldn't sleep because of the noise. During the night she was on that damn call bell every hour! Finally when I was able to go home the next day I was able to get some sleep!

    RICE?

I'm sorry to hear if your post op complications. I'm 9 months post op sleeve and I eat anything g I want in small amounts. That being said, I choose to stay away from all breads (just a bite here and there and I chew it up well) as well as rice. I love garlic shrimp with Portuguese rice but when I indulge it's a very small amount of rice (1-2 tablespoons) and I chew it as best as I can. I tried Chinese fried rice, which I used to love, but I just don't like the taste of that anymore. I guess my tastes have changed along with my habits!
  20. You would think staying well hydrated would solve it, but it doesn't. I'm an RN, so I give myself IV hydration every week on top of my oral fluids to make sure I'm super duper hydrated and I'm still constipated. I know some people have the opposite problem. I think it's an adjustment period also. Either way I make sure I stay well hydrated orally and intravenously. Do you start your own IV or does a co-worker do that for you? Be careful with things like that, at my hospital if someone gets caught doing that they are fired immediately!

Can I wear a bra during surgery?

I was allowed to post op but I felt so crappy and had a problem even raising my arms over my head so I didn't bother wearing one. I didn't care!!

Can I wear a bra during surgery?

No bra, no panties, fir many reasons. First if all, germs. You wore those underclothes at home and they have micro-organisms on them. They need to put on EKG leads and the bra gets in the way. They use electrical stuff during the surgery so if there's any metal on the bra it can burn you. Also, they scrub your entire abdomen to just under your boobs and just above your pelvic area so underclothes get in the way.
