Great to Find LGBT Support on Here!

Hi, I am.sorry that your date was changed last minute. Honestly, I would not have handled that well. However, it sounds like you have made the mental adjustment you needed.....You sound like a strong person....More power to you! I am gay and must say it is nice to see family on here..... I feel for those who have struggled with people not being kind to those of us who have chosen wls. I never expected a few of my friends to struggle with my wls surgery. They were fine until my weight dropped lower than their own. Now there is trouble in the water... My approach has been to just encourage them to take care of their health. Never in my wildest dreams did I see this coming. However, I feel sorry for them. At work I chose to tell very few people pre op. Post op I tell everyone at who asks. That worked out well for me. I have gotten nothing but positive reactions from every co worker who has asked. Anyhow enough of my rambling... Best Wishes...... Tina

Hi, I am from the LA area. However, I have Kaiser Permanente Insurance. I had a great surgeon Dr. Chin. He works out of the Redlands office. My surgery was done in St. Bernardine Hospital In San Bernardino,California. By Dr. Chin who works for Kaiser. My experience was very good. I was treated well.Low amount of pain. Hope this helps. How long were you out of work?

    It's sinking in...

Aj I told very few people myself before surgery. I did not want to hear any comments good or bad. I am now almost 3 months out...back to work and tell anyone who asks. I felt it was the best choice to say nothing pre- op and I know now it was a smart move. Now when people ask I take the opportunity to educate them. It was also true for me this web site has been a lifesaver... Best Wishes with your surgery aj..... I would just focus on that and your recovery. Trust me the rest will work out...... Take good care! learning to chew

Hi Marbear I understand your struggle..However, after surgery you will need to chew approx. 30 Times per bite. I was told I needed to chew my food to baby food consistency. Not easy.....it helps to practice now pre - surgery. Best wishes . Tina

    Protein Bars?

I eat 1/2 of a "Pure Protein Bar" for Breakfast. I usually eat the other half at some point in the day as a snack. They have 20 gram of protein and 1 gram of sugar. I buy them in costco. My Nut recommended them. I really like them ... I began eating them at 6 weeks post op. I have a hard time with food for breakfast for some reason. My sleeve doesn't seem to want to digest the food early. By the time lunch rolls around I am ready for food. I don't really understand why..... But, for me I had to figure out a adjustment that worked. Sorry for rambling on... Best wishes! Tina

    Question about gas

Hi leaves, I did not have a BM for 12 days. Trust me do yourself a favor and start taking whatever your Dr. Recommends. I took milk of magnesia, liquid stool softener, drank 1 oz of warm prune juice all in the same day and no movement. The next day I did the same thing and added a supository and finally had results. My Dr. Said that I was having that problem because I was not drinking enough. The truth I was doing the best I could.... In the end I had to use different combinations of the little helpers for the first month. Now at 2 Months all is normal in this department.... True enough I am drinking 64 oz's at least of liquids a day. I added a cup of decaf coffee in the morning and bam that is the combination that seems to work. Sorry I rambled on ... But I hope it helped. My main point is don't wait to contact your Dr. And ask for some direction as to what you should take to have a BM. Best wishes! Tina
  16. Hi socaldixiegal, I too have been attached to a number on the scale for years. Before surgery I made a decision that I would not allow the scale to dictate my success in this process. And honestly it doesn't. I decided to weigh myself once a week and enjoy the numbers going down. Truth be known everyone does hit "stalls" during this process. Everyone hits them at different times. I noticed while I maybe stalling on the scale my clothes are getting pretty Baggie. So more than anything my mind set has changed. I hope whatever you decided to do helps you enjoy your journey in this process. Scale or not your numbers will change.... The surgery is the best thing I could have done. Best wishes to you on your journey! Tina

    Question about gas

Hi Kathy, I have a feeling in the sleeve while eating and drinking that is like gas. I am 2 months out so it doesn't hurt like it did in the beginning. Most likely you are feeling pain because you are still healing. I use Gas X Strips. It really helps with those feelings. I carry those strips with me all the time just n case. I have to be careful not to swallow air while drinking... Hope that helps! Tina
  18. Hi soccergirl88, I had the same problem in the hospital and at home. I had to stay two nights in the hospital and almost a 3 nights if I did not consume more liquids. I honestly had to use a timer at home home to remember to drink. I finally started to get it but it took some time. Feeling nausea is very common. The surgeon I had prescribed anti nausea pills for all his patients before surgery so we could have some at home. If you still have that issue I would request some. These pills desolve in your mouth. I sure used them a lot in the beginning. As the swelling goes down you will be able to drink more. As long as you are sipping those 1 oz cups every 15 minutes you will be fine. Hoping this helps you relax and take one day at a time. I wish I was aware of this web site my first month. I was nervous most of the time. So many good pointers on this web site! Best wishes..... Tina

    2 weeks out..frustrated a tad

I had the same problem the first couple weeks. Try eating yogurt or cottage cheese they are both loaded with Protein. I honestly have no nice remedies. I would take the Gas X strips and that would help me with that feeling. There are still foods that effect me that way. Those foods I stay away from and then 're- intruduce that food back into my diet a few weeks later to see how it lands. Some food are fine and some not so much. It takes time to learn your new body. When my surgeon told me I might dislike food I would normally love I thought he was nuts. Turns out he knew what he was talking about. Sorry I am rambling.... With all that being said.... I know this is a hard thing to do... however, try to be patient you will get it all figured out...... Best wishes!
  20. I was off 8 weeks. my job requires lifting 50 lbs. There is no way that was happening before 8 weeks. It took awhile to regain my stamina. It took a full 6 weeks for me to feel normal. Everyone is different.... Best wishes with your surgery.

    Glue on your cuts...

Hi my glue came off in about 7 days. Mine were itchy as well........ it was hard to keep from scratching. However, I was pretty concerned I would cause a infection. So that was a good motivation for me. Soon this will pass! Hang in there!

    Salads

I am 2 months out and eat finely chopped tomatoes 1/4 cup with 1 oz of meat for both lunch and dinner. I am very satisfied. According to my paperwork at week 7 my surgeon says we can have a regular diet. It's funny I have always been a salad lover however, right now I am just craving the tomato.
  23. I did not Have a BM until the 12th day post- op. I was so uncomfortable I feel for you. I took liquid colace (stool softener) & milk of magnesia. I continued to have problems until I began eating some veggies. that helped me a lot. I began drinking a cup of decaf coffee in the morning and that helps.Well. I hope you have relief ssoon.
  24. During my per op classes we were told NO gummie vitimans. But, honestly I can not tolerate the other chewable Multi vitimans I have tried. I know I can handle gummie vitimans as I had those per op. I was just wondering if anyone had thoughts on this subject. Thank you in advance for your advise!
