    can I still eat out?

Yes... you will just be eating less. I usually order mostly side dishes and still need a container to go.

    Hospital stay how long?

I had my surgery early morning. I stayed 3 days and 2 nights. I pretty much begged to go home. What they are watching for is that you take in enough fluid. At least that was my situation. Best Wishes

Coffee + Upper Stomach pains ?

No lecture here... I had the same thing happen and it was acid. I take Prilosec daily so I can enjoy my morning coffee.... I did switch to decaf coffee.... However, I do have to take a daily acid pill. For me it is worth it!

I just can't get them down!

Hi.... I struggled with the vitimans as well. For some reason the taste made me sick. So I made myself a deal.... I would at least take them 3 days a week. Mostly on the days I did Not feel queasy. That system worked for me. At this point I can handle centerium chewable Multi vitiman ( my nut recommended these). For the calcium at 2 months I started the calcium chews from Costco ( both chocolate and Carmel are good). Now I am able to manage to take what I need daily. For most Kaiser patients we are told to take b1, b12 (sublingual) Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Daily we take Multi vitimans and calcium. I just had my lab work done a few weeks ago and everything was perfect.... So this system seems to work! Anyway, sorry I was long winded.... Hang in there it gets easier! Best Wishes

    Protein bars

me too.... Actually this is the only one my nut recommended. I started eating them at 5 weeks post op. At first I could only eat 1/2 of the bar per day as a snack. They are very heavy and filling. Now at 5 1/2 months out I replace one of my shakes for a bar when I am in the mood. Currently, I eat 3 small meals (3/4 to 1 cup) of food per sitting. And 2 snack (which for me are 2 premier shakes or 1 shake and 1 protien bar. No matter what I am good with my protien if I do it this way. And it is working for me.... So yes you can bars! Enjoy!

I too am a Kaiser patient. My surgeon said I would be drinking at least one protien shake per day for life. So I would agree contact your surgeons office.

    Im new

hi and welcome..... Yes it is completely normal. I kind of felt outside the normal me for a few months.... I guess I was one of the slow ones lol! However, now I feel even better than before. For me it felt like there was so much to get used you. But once I was able to make the needed adjustments... Meaning socially, getting into my daily work routines etc. all of the puzzle pieces came together. Then I was over whelmed with the happiness I feel today. You will get there.... Hang on it is a fun ride! Best Wishes Tina

Canadianchick I make sure I have 2 protien shakes a day.... My meals are 2 to 3 oz of meat & 1/4 cup of veggies or fruit. Usually I eat fruit once every few weeks. I eat 3 meals a day. Hope this helps!

    Using the Scale for Accountability

Yes I weigh daily... I do go up a few lbs when I have eaten food in a restaurant or some food with high salt content. However, I except the scale to go up a little on those days.... The scale is NO LONGER MY ENEMY! What a wonderful feeling!

    how to measure food?

I use a cup... I am not sure about the lettuce..... my Dr. told me no lettuce until I am 1 year post op. I do eat other veggies and measure with a cup.
  23. I had those same pains and it was all in the muscles. As I understood if you calorie intake gets to low your body goes into starvation mode. Just do your best to get in 70 grams of protein and 64 oz of total liquid a day. I was able to count the protein shakes as part of my liquids. I use premier shakes from costco. 30 grams of protein and 11 oz. I drink 2 per day which takes the pressure off as far as daily protein totals. I am 5 1/2 months post op and still do the same thing..... Hope this helps!

You got this.... you will snap the stall.... i personally stay away from all starch items.... I focus on protein and veggies, occasionally I will have fruit every 2 weeks or so. If I have a fruit craving I will have some. I make sure to have at least 70 grams of protein per day..... have a great day!

    Chewable vitamins

I was very sensitive the first 4 months..... for some reason at 5 months I can tolerate centruim chewable multi vitamin now. For calcium I do the chocolate chewable from costco. Just got all my lab work back and my levels are perfect. I guess this combination is working. I hope you lose your sensitivity as well. Best Wishes
