Good luck! How exciting!

No your not nuts. I think we can all relate to that cycle of frustration. I would pressure myself so much it was like I was setting myself up for failure. I encourage to take this day by day and you will get through this. Hang in there! Just take it one day at a time! Best wishes!

3 weeks out and BAD reflux
T'snewstart replied to alaina25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi and yes it does get better. I used gas x strips for the first 4 months to cut down on the discomfort and burping. If I were you I would ask the Dr. For a different type of medicine for the reflux. They have it in liquid form. I took that for the first month post op ( liquid form). Best wishes -

Yes most likely it is gas.... I am about 6 months out and that still happens. However, if feel pain with it I would consider calling your Dr.s office.

Hi Cmunne, I understand those feelings. And most of us on this site have struggled with them as well. My starting weight was 358 lbs. I am about 6 months out and have no regrets. I have lost a little over 100 lbs. I still have about 65 lbs to go. I felt very overwhelmed with the amount I needed to lose when I was pre op. Post op there were too many other things I needed to focus on. It was a big adjustment to me at the beginning. Once I went back to work and back to my routine life began to get more "normal" At that point I had lost a good chunk of weight ( 45 lbs ) so the numbers we not so overwhelming. Once you see the weight coming off it will calm your fears! Funny only once did I question this decision. It was just before they were wheeling me in for surgery... This thought runs through my mind .... Tina what the heck are you getting ready to do..... My following thought was... I am saving my life! Struggle was over.... I have been at peace since then. I knew for me I was committing a slow suicide carrying all that weight. And of I did not do something my life would be shortened drastically. The only health issue I had due to the weight was high blood pressure and that developed 2 months before surgery. One month post op I was taken off the blood pressure medicine. This web site was my life saver really.... I stumbled across this site 1 month post op. just knowing others have the same issues and getting questions answered is a fabulous support! I do wish you all the best in your journey.... Feel free to contact me for support! You got this.... Sincerely, Tina

Welcome!! And congratulations! Your weight loss is fantastic! Good for you! Sounds like you have had a rough go of things in the beginning... I am glad for you that these issues have been resolved! Good for you choosing such a great wife! I can imagine on your worst days she can make you laugh! What a we some support system! Best wishes on the rest of your journey. And yes the stalls will come.... However, if you keep the right mind set you will be fine. While the scale may not be moving the inches will be coming off. I have experienced 2 stalls... Both lasting 2 weeks. During that time I dropped a clothing size. It does help to focus on those things to keep frustration at bay! Again best wishes!

Congratulations!!! You look fantastic!! -
Hi at 4 months I started losing hair.... My hair got really thin around the crown of my head. The hair loss has really slowed down now. I will be at the 6 month mark in a few days. So yes my hair did thin a lot..... I have taken nothing for it. In my pre op classes we were told that biotin was really not a proven fact in stopping hair loss. I made sure to get in all my daily protein.... Never skip a beat on that... Best wishes Tina

A Week Ago Today...
T'snewstart replied to swomack1031's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had pain for the first few weeks. I stopped the pain meds after that point. I actually felt occasional pain by the large incision up until about 3 months out. I too had a hard time finding a comfortable position to sleep.... Slept in the recliner a few times. I normally sleep on my side and could not do that for the first month. All that being said.... It never hurts to call your surgeons office and discuss it with them. Best wishes for your continued recovery! -
hi ladies....yes get the patch it really works! I had it and it was fantastic! Best wishes to you all! Will be praying for you all! Hope your healing comes quickly!

Sleeve vs bypass?
T'snewstart replied to karpouzian's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got the sleeve because I had 2 co-workers get the bypass and they just seem miserable. It just seems most people I have come in contact with was so unhappy after the bypass. While I wanted a change from the constant struggle with my excess weight I did not want to be unhappy. Beside all the medical reasons ...as I am sure you have researched the differences. The bypass is so much more complicated. Many more complications can occur. One big problem is the lack of ability to absorb the Vitamins and nutrients that is needed. The sleeve for me was the best decision ever! My weight loss results are exactly the same as the co-workers. I do not have the troubles they experience. I live a happy normal life. Socially it is easy to adjust ( after the first few months). Over all it comes down to the individual really. The surgeons expectations goes as follows: after the first 2 years bypass patients are expected to lose on average: 60-80% of their excess weight , sleeve patients 50-70% of the excess weight. However, that too is up to the patient. At my 5 month check up I had already lost 40% of my excess weight. I said all that to say..... If you follow the surgeons instructions and get the most out the of the sleeve you can have equal results..... Best wishes on your decision and surgery! -
I understand your fears .... First allow me to say you can lose your extra weight with the sleeve. With the bypass the average person is expected to lose 60 - 80 % of their excess weight in a 2 year period. VS the sleeve the expectation is: 50 - 70 % in the a 2 year period. However, by the time I went to my 5 month appt. I had lost 40% of my extra # already. In total my goal is to lose almost 170 #. Honestly, most surgeons are leaning to the sleeve because there are less complications long term. You absorb nutrients and Vitamins normally because your intestines are the same. If you use the sleeve as directed you can get equal results. Hope this helps! Best wishes!

Day 5 Post Sleeve and still nauseous!
T'snewstart replied to jessinoz4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I struggled with nausea for the first month off and on... Get a some pills from the Dr. It will really be a life saver... Not to worry it will go away! Hope you feel better soon! Take Good Care -
. Hi I am 5 1/2 months post op In the beginning I didn't feel hunger. Now what I feel is empty.... I can eat one bite of Protein and take that feeling away. Of course I eat what I am supposed to eat. Getting to little calories can put us in a stall. So I make sure to get in my 3 meals a day. My stomach feels the same. It is such a weird feeling when I am eating something I really am enjoying.... And would love to eat more than my normal portion ( 3/4 to 1 cup) of food. But I can't do it my tummy gets full real fast. That is the Beauty of the sleeve.... It is built in portion control! I can tell you if Feel that empty feeling and have eaten my 3 meals I eat sugar free Jello and bam the feeling is gone. Amazing how often I have mistaken gas for hunger. I know this might sounds crazy to some.... But I have on a few occasions felt intestinal rumbles of gas and thought it was hunger.... Now I can tell the difference. Before I couldn't. Enough rambling! Best wishes to you!
