How long are you on the PreOp diet?
T'snewstart replied to Spoiled1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my visit with the surgeon and had surgery one month later. I was on the pre op diet for that month. However, I would call and ask. Best Wishes -
Hi.... Both are true actually. Our skin can be compared to a rubberband. We can only stretch it out for so long until it just will not go back to its original form. everyone s different.... Hope this helps....

Should I buy new shoes?
T'snewstart replied to mariamitani's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to buy new shoes.... I still have 65# to lose. I only bought one pair at a shoe outlet store as I anticipate buying a smaller size when I reach my goal. -
Whoo... Apply the brakes and "Step Away" from the sugar free taffy!
T'snewstart posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi folks its confession time! I have really been enjoying sugar free taffy. It was nice to have a "treat" after all I deserve one right!? I am doing well so far! At least that is what my internal conversation has been. Well the result of my one piece of taffy that lead to serval pieces a day is.... I hit a stall. As I began to rethink my past week.... I asked myself what have I done differently? It was the taffy... Then I thought huh... I wonder how many calories are in taffy.... Was I surprised 35 calories per piece OMG I had consumed many calories just in taffy. Whoops! I need to watch out for hidden calories! Am I saying I will never have sugar free taffy again. No way... I will... However, I will be more cautious with my calorie intake... No matter how small the food item I am consuming! Anyone else experience something like this??? -
When can we drink soda
T'snewstart replied to amielou26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
. It is my understanding that if you allow the soda to go flat you can drink away.... Mainly it is the carbonation that creates a issue. However, as many have said some are able to drink them fully loaded with carbonation with no discomfort. So, truth be told it is up to your toleration level. This is "Your Journey" , you chose what works for you! Best Wishes! Tina -
So far Tylenol has done the trick for any pain I have had so far....

Aussie so sorry for our loss. I can see why hearing that catch phrase would be a source of frustration for you. You have lived this surgery from a completely different prospective than most. I can respect your view and will consider that before ever using that phrase again. Respectfully, Tina

At 3 months I ate meatballs.... Would buy the premade ones from costco (they have a varity of different flavors) it was just easier to count the amount of protien. I ate chicken wings, my favorite are honey BBQ. I usually buy them from Costco... Very low cost considering I don't eat much. With the protien I would cut up tomatoe 1/4 cup and eat it with the protien. Avocado and tomatoe was another favorite. Cottage cheese is another low fat protien option. I also made soups with meat and veggies. I still to this day can not eat bread without feeling like I swallowed a sponge.... So needless to say I stay away from bread. I can however, eat corn tortillas... So a small taco is a pleasant meal! Apricot glazed shrimp skewers! Mini Meat loaf muffins are good also! Hope this helps!

No bowel movement ...
T'snewstart replied to Iweeny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Metamucil ( clear and natural) it is the "blue" bottle not the orange one. this stuff worked miracles for me. I have had difficulty getting my plumbing to work regularly even with the proper fluid intake. This stuff you mix with any liquid and it does not clump up you can not even tell it is in our drink. -
Any sugestitions on this surgery?
T'snewstart replied to candace.lemon's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hmmm where do I start? Well foods not to eat post op.... Fried foods stay away from that stuff. Any basic diet WW or you can use spark people web site..which is the same thing and it is free. Until just before surgery. Every Dr. Is different in their requirements. For me I was required to do protein shakes and one small low fat meal daily for a month prior to surgery. The day before it was all liquids. However, that is all based on your surgeons requirements. Pros: fast rapid weight loss, freedom from the drive to eat, built in portion control, after dropping a chunk of weight more mobility, no more joint pain. Cons: Well the first few months for me was not fun. It was a lot to adjust to. However, once you are past the first few months and are back to a normal diet it is not bad. I would do it again in a heart beat. Hope this helps! -
Hello cheeze82 it is true its different with every surgeon. I had my pre-op appt. 1 month before my surgery. Basically, I was given a booklet with all the after surgery instructions, how to progress with my diet post op. I was given prescriptions to fill that I would take post op. everything including pain medicine was in liquid form. I was given prescriptions for: nausea, pain, stomach acid & one for the gallbladder ( to prevent gallstones). Had some blood drawn. Then I was told to lose as much weight as possible before surgery to help shrink my liver. He basically said what works best is protein shakes and one small low fat meal. For the next month I did the diet and waiting for the surgery date. The hospital called me a few days prior and I was given my instructions on the check in and what to expect while in the hospital. I did not have much pain... Some nausea ... But the medicine I was given took care of that fast. I did have gas pressure in my chest. I was up walking the halls about 2 hours after arriving in my room. Walking is what helped the most. I walked the halls often. I was in the hospital 3 days and 2 nights. For me the biggest challenge was drinking enough fluids. I was still hooked to a I'V and was not hungry or thirsty. They want you to drink a 1 oz cup every fifteen minutes. That was hard of me. When I got home I literally set a kitchen timer every 15 min. To get in the habit of drinking. I was just not thirsty. Now at 6 on this out I can drink about 80 oz or more a day. So those feelings go away.... I was a bit worried about that.... Don't be your body adjusts to this surgery and your small tummy. My life feels very normal. I just have a smaller tummy and eat a lot less. Sorry for rambling...hope this helps!

Centrum chewable? Gahhh! So nasty!
T'snewstart replied to karpouzian's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Agreed it was hard for me to handle the first 4 months.... For some reason I can now @ 6 months. Not my favorite... But, actually all the chewables with the correct amount of what we need in them are nasty... So I learned to tolerate these. Hope you find something that works for you! Best wishes! -
Congratulations! To you both! Angel pooh & feelsme2......

Hi .... First let me say you look fabulous! As to your goal.... Go with your own convictions! It's always hard to determine the motives of others. I will say this I too have had a similar experience with a "friend". However, I choose not to take a detour for anyone. I will not slow down or change my goals for anyone else! I am sure you goals are healthy ones.... Follow your heart! Best wishes one the rest of your journey! -
