I'm also on June 26 surgery was delayed from May 22 due to needing antibiotics and prilosec.

I was scheduled for May 22nd but my endoscopy test came back positive for h plethora? Some kind of ulcer causing bacteria that everyone carries but I have too much of it. I have to do 2 weeks of antibiotics and then be off them for 4 weeks and do another breath test, then have surgery if I'm all clear. New surgery date is June 26.

I'm getting sleeved May 22nd in Lansing. Just had my pre op endoscopy today, all went well. Exciting!

May 22nd! My mom is getting sleeved the same day, same doc, etc. We can take our post op walks in the hallway together. I an doing the liquid supplements from May 1-May 21 to lose weight and shrink liver.

I was 235 with my twins (one did not make it) and 250 with my quadruplets (all healthy and doing great) and used fertility treatments both pregnancies, not IVF I was 26 with first pg and 30 when quads were born. I'm now in the category of not wanting more than the 5 little blessings we currently have so I am going to ask the doctor if I can have my tubes tied at the same time I have the sleeve done.

My daughter had this done in the office as a toddler and didn't even cry/gag, etc. I think it sounds worse due to the long name

Paperwork was faxed last Thursday for my medically supervised diet (2 months with primary care physician and 2 months through weight loss mgmt clinic - same place that does the bariatric program). It was approved the next day (Friday) and I called yesterday to check the status...it's "approved - letters being sent"...the approval dates are Feb 7 - April 7 as the bari program has 2 weeks for medical clearances, 4 weeks for preop diet and 2 weeks to schedule surgery, I could be sleeved as soon as April, so excited!

PHP has 3 weeks to deny or approve me for the surgery. Fingers crossed!

My insurance covers bariatric surgery, but only through designated "Bariatric Center of Excellence" run programs. Trying to see how common this is.

Even though this sounds dauntung...I can do it. Also, odd development, I'm supposed to start my 12 weeks of nutritional supervised dieting but today the clinic said my insurance has a clause that if you've had 6 months supervised dieting in the past 5 years and are still obese, then you can skip that and go straight to bariatric program...I could be sleeved in 2-3 months instead of 5-6, sounds too good to be true (I had supervised dieting via my primary doctor for 6 consecutive months in 2009-2010). We shall see, my primary is faxing the info to the clinic tomorrow.

Do they expect the reflux to lessen eventually? That is awesome the pain lasted under a week, makes me optimistic about returning to work in a short amount of time.

That is great! How are you feeling overall with pain, etc. and how has it been getting used to the new way of eating/drinking?

Congrats on the weight loss thus far, that is awesome! Have you considered doing some kind of water-based exercise that is easy on the joints etc. and would require you to pencil in time for yourself given that most people don't own an indoor pool? Just a thoguht. Swimming exercise appeals to me because you don't sweat like at the gym on the machines etc.

I'm new here too, I've wondered the same thing...I assumed it's a combination of not having been in the pre-op/post-op diet shoes and the fact that people's personalities, addictions and perseverance is way different. I did a 30 day Water fast before, voluntarily as well as several 2-4 week "shake" fasts...for me, I'm not real concerned about surviving pre or post op diet restrictions. I also don't view this surgery as another diet that I can cheat on. Cheating on this life change could be fatal. I'm not going to cheat my 5 kids out of having a mom over a handful of popcorn. What I do is not comment at all on the cheater threads...maybe their journey/addiction is harder and hopefully they'll work it out. I can't offer advice as I haven't had the operation yet. Adding another "why would you do that?!" to their thread probably isn't helpful to them since they are likely asking themselves that...in the mean time, I would just block the pitchfork/attack people - those kinds are on every forum no matter the topic.

Sparrow in Lansing...they are the closest Bariatric COE and I had previously gone through them when I considered an RNY bypass a few years ago (decided malabsorption wasn't for me) and they are good people/good program. I also work in downtown Lansing so it will make follow up appointments easier etc.

I am from Michigan, live between Lansing and Grand Rapids. I'm anticipating being sleeved early Summer 2013.

I'm in a similar boat, my bmi hovers between 42 and 43, after doing the math, I can lose about 25 pounds and stay at 40...which is instant approval vs. the 35 bmi with co-morbidities. I feel either way I'll be ok as I have PCOS, insulin resistance, hypothyroid and sleep apnea that is treated (though not fully controlled) with a machine when I sleep. The way my insurance works, I'll be weighed at the beginning and end of the 12 week program. I hope to lose 20 pounds or so during that time. Then you are weighed at just the beginning of the 6 week bariatric surgery part of the program...the plan I'm on requires 4 weeks liquid only diet prior to surgery so I imagine I'll drop a bunch pre-op.

Welcome! I'm new here too. I'm going through a mandatory 12 week program that my insurance requires before granting the approval for bariatric surgery. I'm looking at late Spring/early Summer for being sleeved.

This particular BCE performs all surgeries at the hospital and is a level 1 BCE (performing over 125 bariatric surgeries per year) vs a level 2 BCE (performing over 25 bariatric surgeries per year - and also not allowed to operate on high-risk patients or patients with 55 or 60 bmi). I wouldn't do anything at a day center for something that requires you to be completely knocked out. For myself, I asked lots of questions including the mri/cat scan of my abdomen, I want to be safe rather than sorry. If I was planning a road trip, I would want to know where all the rivers and mountains were. If they do my MRI and discover I'm fine, great. If they see an abundance of scar tissue or twisted bowel (which can happen without pain/discomfort - it's happened to me before) then they will know all of this and prepare before the surgery. I do know that there are minimum requirements for the BCE designation (and different "levels" as noted above) but like anything, some centers will require/do more than others. Therein lies the rub.
