  1. Wow! Everyone here is so motivating and encouraging. I love checking in and reading everyone's posts. Had a good weekend of biking with the hubs and this morning I started Week 4 Day 1. I was a little apprehensive about the 5 min run but I told myself that I was defeating myself before I even attempted. So, I told my innerself to SHUT UP and just get off my a$$ and DO IT! And I did do it!! I am super proud of myself for not quitting before I even started. That is more of a mental breakthrough then a physical for me.

    Happy running everyone.

  2. I had nausea the first 6 hours after surgery. It was awful and painful. After that the morphine and anti-nausea meds took care of the last 18 hrs in the hospital. My Dr. sent me home with a liquid pain med. I have a 4 hour ride home but luckily my best friend lives in the Kansas City where I had my surgery so I stayed a week with her and her family. Between my hubby and my best friend (who happens to be a nurse) I was very well cared for. It does get better with each passing day. In a week you'll be saying "it was so worth it!".

  3. Just got an email back from my doctor and my nut. They encourage me to go for it( my husband will work out with me too) and the worse that will happen is that I walk the 5k instead of running it. I'm 66 so this should be a challenge because I HATE to exercise except Water aerobics because that doesn't hurt. Hit 50 pounds lost today and had my massage as a treat yesterday!! Go for it!

Congratulations on both the 50 and joining us in the 5K challenge.

  4. Im repeating week 4....and I finally feel completely competent to move on to week 5. Never in a million years could I have imagined running..,under any circumstances(unless I was being chased at gunpoint lol) but I am so proud of myself for challenging myself to do this!

You are an inspiration to those of us just starting out. Keep up the great work!

  5. I have been drinking a cup of black coffee everyday since 3 weeks out. I actually use it as a pre-workout stimulant. I mix 8oz of strong black coffee with 1 scoop whey isolate and a pump or two of different Torani flavors... usually french vanilla or english toffee. Its been almost a week with no ill effects. Actually it makes me feel great during my workout and gives me an added push during cardio.

Do you use the unflavored whey?

  6. okay all of you have really motivated me. I downloaded the free app Couch to 5k on my iPhone. I have a son that started competing in Triathlons a couple of years ago and last year he told me he really wants me and his Dad to at least start joining him in a few 5k races. I cried because I felt like I was letting him down. that was one of the turning points for me to have the surgery. So I promised him that I would work to be able to join him in a race by May. I am 5 weeks post op and I'm not going to let back and knee problems deter me. Onward I go!

Way to go! It's motivating to have a child WANT you to join him. You are on your way.

  7. Ok' date=' once again you are amazing! Here I am wondering if I'll be able to pull off a 5k and you're talking half marathon! I so admire your ambition and belief in yourself.[/quote']

Thank you. I will believe in you too and we can all support each other and do this! We are all fighters to have made it this far and we are continuing the fight against obesity with each run we do. I am looking forward to being able to run with my son, nieces and nephews. I don't want to be part of the cheering section. I will be one of the runners!

  8. Fantastic!

Get this - I'm scared to run outside! I'm pretty tied to my treadmill (single mom of a 4yr old) and I COULD have run outside on Saturday and I totally chickened out. I'm afraid I won't be able to do it at all outside or that someone will see me trying to run. I'd pulled down the city map of paths and everything... one of these days I'm going to get outside though. It's beautiful running weather where I live' date=' so I've got no excuse when I don't have my son with me.

Tonight is three sets of 5 minute runs - week 5![/quote']

I have only ran outside a handful of times. I have a lot of the same fears as you. I have set a goal to run a half marathon in 18 mos though so I will have to get over that. I figure a year to lose all my weight and a 6 mos to train. Hope it's a realistic goal.
