  1. Absolutely the best thing I have ever done for myself. I had surgery 12/10/12 and have achieved my goal weight. I went from 196 pounds to 128 pounds in about 8 month. Now I am active, fit, and have a whole new relationship with food. It had been an incredible year.
  2. Hey OP, I really really feel for you. You must seek therapy and be honest with your therapist. Let them help you. It sounds like you really were not prepared for surgery. The sleeve is a tool. It is no obesity cure. You have to do the work and follow the plan. The sleeve can help a lot but if I don't do what I am supposed to as far as eating goes, I can consume way more food than I wish I could. It sounds like you really need to take it from the start again and commit to the lifestyle change. The sleeve really is not for everyone and it sounds like your doctors may not have done you any favors. Good luck.
  3. I'm sorry and totally not picking on the original poster but that statement is a load of bunk. Please don't anyone believe that 18 years bs. Those doctors that told her that without any real data are terrible. If this procedure cut that kind of time off lives most of us would not have chosen to have it. Not to mention that it would have to be disclosed to patients before surgery. Most of us would have a hell of a lawsuit if the was the case. It is simply not true. I am in the medical community and I can assure you the doctors that told her that are mistaken. It is a bit laughable.

No longer invisible, and that's what I wanted, I thought ...

Ok ladies...... We are women and we are beautiful. Fat or skinny someone somewhere finds you attractive. Own it and embrace your new body. Most of us have worked damn hard to lose the weight and get in shape. Now, some of the I feel like everyone, particularly men are staring at me statements are a little in your head. You need to let that go, they are men and they are not going to bite you. If you are hit on and not interested be direct and tell that person. Guys are not dumb and they get the hint pretty quickly. Be yourself as that is all you can ever be. I'm sorry you didn't know how powerful being a women makes you. I was fortunate enough to be raised by a total badass so no matter how ugly I thought I was she always instilled great confidence in my other abilities, so luckily I got the badass gene. Lol! It's time to develop yours.

    I have officially been sleeved

I well remember after they took my urinary catheter out how often I had to get up to pee! Congrats on the surgery!
  6. You are amazing! Inspirational!
  7. I'm 5'3 and started at 196 day of surgery. My highest weight was 216. Sleeved 12/10/12. I am down at 141 pounds now and have 10 more to go. Started really slowing down the last month or so with the loss but I expected it. If I never drop another pound I am still thrilled with my results. I work out very hard daily and am now a size 7, I was a 16 prior to surgery.

    BIG FAT PEOPLE!

I am Ginny. I am most definitely a food addict. If I did not have an active job I would be 300 pounds I have no doubt. I tried every diet and would have temporary success. The weight always came back on and then some. Food occupied so much of my thoughts and at the same time I hated how controlled I felt. The sleeve is certainly helping with the addiction but it is a battle. I do think there are some overweight people that may not truly have an addiction but I feel most of us do. The ones that don't should really attend an OA meeting or talk with a therapist because the reality is.....most of us are fat because we love food and not just love food. I mean we LOVE food! Lol! I am so grateful for my sleeve. It has not been all sunshine and roses but it is the best thing I could have done for myself. I am down 50 pounds and 15 or so from my goal weight. I now feel more in control of my eating and my addiction. My days are not preoccupied with what my next meal will be. I still think about food but in a different way.

    Hungry

I was legitimately hungry post op as well. It will pass. However most of us do not lose all our hunger pangs. It is a lucky few that are never hungry post op. I wish I was one of those people! Lol! Once you are able to eat more substantial food you will feel restriction from your sleeve and things get easier. The liquid phase was the hardest. Btw I am 3.5 months out and down 35 pounds. 25 pounds to goal. I was a low BMIer.

    Bread...Why did I do it? :(

The site has really started to become less than helpful. When did fat people and ex fat people become so Judgemental? I'm out, don't think I'll be back because unlike some of the experts, and know it alls, and dummies that need the last word.......I have a life.

    Time off from work?

I was back after a week and I have an active job. It was hard the first week back but I did fine. I was tired but not too sore. My doctor cleared me for work the day after I came home from the hospital in reality, so 3 days off would have been all I had to take off. They encouraged me to get back to my normal life ASAP.

    anyone near NASHVILLE TN?:)

I'm a Dr. Olsen patient too! Sleeved Dec. 10th. I like their program and felt prepared for how life would be post sleeve. It has been a crazy couple of weeks. I am finally pain free and starting to eat regular food. yay!

    Possible leak?

Very unlikely to have a leak that far out from surgery. Gas or gallbladder or muscle soreness more likely.

    Surgery yesterday (12/31)

I agree second day was rough! The nausea is what killed me! You will be better tomorrow!

    Discomfort when eating

I am the opposite and getting concerned about what I can eat. I can eat 3 ounces of protein over a half hour or so with no real pain. I am 3 weeks out. I am also hungry. I did not think I would be one of those lucky people that was never hungry but part of the reason I did this was because of the hunger reduction. So needless to say I am disappointed to be able to eat this much already and that I am hungry. It is not as bad as before surgery but it s always there. I feel resigned to always fight this hunger. It is depressing.

    Feeling Alone

I feel and have felt the same way. I am new to the group and was sleeved 12/10. I am certainly not sorry but I sure miss my good buddy food. Or what I consider food which is really not.....it is junk. The head hunger is out of control at times but without the sleeve I would cave to my craving because I am truly addicted to food. I needed this procedure to lose the weight and I needed it and therapy to treat my addiction. Have faith, you won't be sorry you are doing this. It is drastic but for some of us it is the only way!
