    Kids?

Well I have an adult daughter, so of course no problem for me. She's very supportive even though she didn't necessarily agree with my decision. I would think your 11 yr old would have a much better understanding. 11 yr. olds are smarter than you think sometimes so I think being honest with the oldest will help them to deal much better. You probably don't have to explain all that medical jargon but just tell them mommy's getting weight loss surgery to be healthier and I can be around a lot longer for you all. Now the 4 yr. old, to me, is just a baby. They will notice mommy getting smaller but I think trying to explain weight loss surgery to a 4 y/o shouldn't be something you should consume yourself with. And you don't have to say goodbye, just let them know you'll be away for a couple days but coming right back home to them.
  3. Lol....bonus plan. Well all that up and down meant no blood clots for you, right?
  4. I'm actually excited about it and a little nervous. But I'm not thinking negative. I'm a strong believer in thinking and being positive! However I'm still a little nervous because it is major surgery. But this time next Monday night i'll be resting in the hospital from having my sleeve done earlier that day. Anyone else getting sleeved on the 4th?
  5. Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I really am trying to keep my eye on prize and follow my surgeons instructions.
  6. Oh yeah I did feel guilty after eating those saltine crackers. But not when i ate the tortilla chips, I sure savored every chip I ate! But not gonna do it again.
  7. I'm not even going to sugar coat, I'm kind of envious of some of these pre op diets I've been reading on the forum. Some people say they only have to do a liquid 24 hrs before surgery, some are not required to do liquid at all before surgery. Some people only have to do it 2 - 3 days before surgery. But I am following my dr's instructions and actually doing pretty good with mine. I started on Feb. 18, surgery date March 4th. But I sure wish I could eat some food I really miss it and at times I'm really craving it. Now I did cheat twice last week with saltine crackers & tortilla chips. I ate a total of 9 crackers on tuesday of last week and about 20 tortilla chips this past saturday. Other than that I haven't had any other morsel of solid food during the week I've been on this liquid diet. I do like my Protein drinks though and I have several flavors so the variety has been great. The last time i weighed myself was on friday 2/22 and I lost 11lbs. I'm like 11lbs in 5 days, quite surprising. But anyway I just wanted to get that out. Wish I could eat this turkey salad my husband made earlier. I would love it on some toast. Yummm....oh well
  8. I love this forum! It just goes to show we are all willing to do what we have to do for better health. And we didn't let distance stop us from achieving our goal!!
  9. You're only human like the rest of us. food has been a great comfort to us all that's how we got to be where we are in the first place. I'm on my pre op diet also with a March 4 surgery date. Started the pre op Feb. 18. And this diet has been very hard on me. I cheated by eating 4 crackers this past tuesday and today. But I have not eaten anything else, not even so much as a morsel. Lord knows I really, really, REALLY want to especially some Mcdonald's fries. On Monday and Wednesday when i didn't eat those crackers, I did much better than i thought. But on the days I ate those crackers, i wanted more food. So I'm not eating another morsel of cracker or anything because it just makes you want food more. I have lost 8lbs so far. Surprised how much weight I've lost in 4 days. But just keep thinking about what could happen if you don't stick to the liquid diet. Make sure your Protein drinks are high in protein. I drink 20g-25g a serving 3-4 times a day. If your liver is too fatty, the surgeon could close you up and cancel your surgery. Or when they cut into your stomach and there's food in it, then that will cause problems also like an infection. But just be really careful, think about your surgery being successful and the dangerous results of eating on your pre op diet right before your surgery. And take it one day at a time. I'm learning that now.
  10. Wow flmama that is a long way to travel! But I know it will all be worth it in the end.
  11. I bet that was an expensive hotel bill. You should be able to claim that on your taxes next year. I would definitely try. My surgeon told me I need to have a person who can bring me to the hospital during my first 30 days after the surgery in case something goes wrong.Since it is a 2 1/2 hr drive and if I didn't, he wouldn't recommend I do the surgery. Luckily I have my husband and a really good friend of mine who can be on call in case I need either one of them.

I like the term "losers" bench also! That is really wonderful beckryn10 so glad to hear about your weight loss. I'll be glad when i can rejoice like you. My surgery is March 4th.
  13. Just wanted to share with you all: I live in Greenville, MS and where I live there are no bariatric surgeons even close to where I live. So have no choice but to travel since I really wanted and needed this surgery. I drive 2 1/2 hrs to go to Oxford, MS. My other options were to go to Jackson, Ms (1 1/2 hr) or to Memphis, Tn (2 1/2 hr). Dr. Michael King in Oxford came highly recommended to me. I did my research on him and other bariatric surgeons and decided Oxford is where I would go. I'm originally from St. Louis, MO and I seriously considered moving back and staying with my daughter temporarily while I was going through the whole appointments and the wls. Because I know there are plenty of bariatric surgeons in the St Louis metro area I could've chose from. But I would've missed my husband a lot. And at the same time when you want something really bad out of life, you're determined to do it what it takes to achieve success. Is there anyone else out there who travels a long way to their bariatric surgeons office?
