  1. I'm not even going to sugar coat, I'm kind of envious of some of these pre op diets I've been reading on the forum. Some people say they only have to do a liquid 24 hrs before surgery, some are not required to do liquid at all before surgery. Some people only have to do it 2 - 3 days before surgery. But I am following my dr's instructions and actually doing pretty good with mine. I started on Feb. 18, surgery date March 4th. But I sure wish I could eat some food I really miss it and at times I'm really craving it. Now I did cheat twice last week with saltine crackers & tortilla chips. I ate a total of 9 crackers on tuesday of last week and about 20 tortilla chips this past saturday. Other than that I haven't had any other morsel of solid food during the week I've been on this liquid diet. I do like my Protein drinks though and I have several flavors so the variety has been great. The last time i weighed myself was on friday 2/22 and I lost 11lbs. I'm like 11lbs in 5 days, quite surprising. But anyway I just wanted to get that out. Wish I could eat this turkey salad my husband made earlier. I would love it on some toast. Yummm....oh well
  2. I'm actually excited about it and a little nervous. But I'm not thinking negative. I'm a strong believer in thinking and being positive! However I'm still a little nervous because it is major surgery. But this time next Monday night i'll be resting in the hospital from having my sleeve done earlier that day. Anyone else getting sleeved on the 4th?
  3. thank you i just changed the font color code to black

    Kids?

Well I have an adult daughter, so of course no problem for me. She's very supportive even though she didn't necessarily agree with my decision. I would think your 11 yr old would have a much better understanding. 11 yr. olds are smarter than you think sometimes so I think being honest with the oldest will help them to deal much better. You probably don't have to explain all that medical jargon but just tell them mommy's getting weight loss surgery to be healthier and I can be around a lot longer for you all. Now the 4 yr. old, to me, is just a baby. They will notice mommy getting smaller but I think trying to explain weight loss surgery to a 4 y/o shouldn't be something you should consume yourself with. And you don't have to say goodbye, just let them know you'll be away for a couple days but coming right back home to them.
  5. Lol....bonus plan. Well all that up and down meant no blood clots for you, right?
  6. Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I really am trying to keep my eye on prize and follow my surgeons instructions.
  7. Oh yeah I did feel guilty after eating those saltine crackers. But not when i ate the tortilla chips, I sure savored every chip I ate! But not gonna do it again.
  8. I love this forum! It just goes to show we are all willing to do what we have to do for better health. And we didn't let distance stop us from achieving our goal!!
  9. Just wanted to share with you all: I live in Greenville, MS and where I live there are no bariatric surgeons even close to where I live. So have no choice but to travel since I really wanted and needed this surgery. I drive 2 1/2 hrs to go to Oxford, MS. My other options were to go to Jackson, Ms (1 1/2 hr) or to Memphis, Tn (2 1/2 hr). Dr. Michael King in Oxford came highly recommended to me. I did my research on him and other bariatric surgeons and decided Oxford is where I would go. I'm originally from St. Louis, MO and I seriously considered moving back and staying with my daughter temporarily while I was going through the whole appointments and the wls. Because I know there are plenty of bariatric surgeons in the St Louis metro area I could've chose from. But I would've missed my husband a lot. And at the same time when you want something really bad out of life, you're determined to do it what it takes to achieve success. Is there anyone else out there who travels a long way to their bariatric surgeons office?
  10. You're only human like the rest of us. food has been a great comfort to us all that's how we got to be where we are in the first place. I'm on my pre op diet also with a March 4 surgery date. Started the pre op Feb. 18. And this diet has been very hard on me. I cheated by eating 4 crackers this past tuesday and today. But I have not eaten anything else, not even so much as a morsel. Lord knows I really, really, REALLY want to especially some Mcdonald's fries. On Monday and Wednesday when i didn't eat those crackers, I did much better than i thought. But on the days I ate those crackers, i wanted more food. So I'm not eating another morsel of cracker or anything because it just makes you want food more. I have lost 8lbs so far. Surprised how much weight I've lost in 4 days. But just keep thinking about what could happen if you don't stick to the liquid diet. Make sure your Protein drinks are high in protein. I drink 20g-25g a serving 3-4 times a day. If your liver is too fatty, the surgeon could close you up and cancel your surgery. Or when they cut into your stomach and there's food in it, then that will cause problems also like an infection. But just be really careful, think about your surgery being successful and the dangerous results of eating on your pre op diet right before your surgery. And take it one day at a time. I'm learning that now.
  11. Wow flmama that is a long way to travel! But I know it will all be worth it in the end.
  12. I bet that was an expensive hotel bill. You should be able to claim that on your taxes next year. I would definitely try. My surgeon told me I need to have a person who can bring me to the hospital during my first 30 days after the surgery in case something goes wrong.Since it is a 2 1/2 hr drive and if I didn't, he wouldn't recommend I do the surgery. Luckily I have my husband and a really good friend of mine who can be on call in case I need either one of them.

    I love my sleeve but...

First I just want to say I don't think you're rambling, this what these forums are for. You're just looking for a little support & motivation. Now I won't have my surgery until march 4. But that is something I really wasn't thinking about. Are you an emotional eater? That may explain why you are kind of having a hard time to stop eating while you're full. With food, you really have to change your way of thinking. Maybe it's just the fact you're not used to leaving food on your plate and it feels kind of strange like you're wasting food or something. Idk how open you are to talking to a professional but that is something you should consider if you're still struggling to stop eating after you're already full. Because like my doctors tells me, any weight loss surgery can be undone with too much high calorie food and drink. I have a friend now who got the lap band back in Dec. 2010, she lost weight real good for approx. 8 mos, like 75 or 80lbs. Then after a year or so she reverted back to her old eating habits and of course put almost all of her weight back on. Good luck to you and keep us posted.
  16. Oh yeah! My insurance Aetna requires weight and blood pressure readings for the prior three years. Since I did that in 2012, I had to provide 2010, 2011 & 2012. But that really wasn't a problem for me getting those. Even though I had a different doctor back in 2010 & 2011, I just went to that doctors office and asked for a copy of my medical records with my weight and b/p recording on it . Or even if you had any kind of E/R visit during those two years, you can use that copy also. Long as it has your weight recorded on it for that year. Good luck to ya!
  17. thank you, i will do my very best to stay strong.
  18. My surgery is March 4th so today is my 1st day of my pre-op diet. I am now "drinking" dinner. My menu: Meal: Some delicious succulent beef broth Desert: Not so sweet sugar free Jello Drink: Refreshing Apple juice I'm really trying to keep a positive attitude about my pre op diet. But when I think about the consequence of not following my diet, well that keeps me motivated. What are some of you all having for your meals?

    how does a leak occur

I'm like you on that aspect. Always listen to your body. Don't shrug things off when something doesn't feel right. And you are also right that having a low dull back pain is not a typical symptom of a leak. As a matter of fact it's the first I've heard of it.
  20. My surgery date is March 4th and I'm really looking forward to it. And I have become very comfortable with Dr. Michael King, he definitely knows his stuff. Any other persons been to Oxford for bariatric surgery? What was your experience?

    March 4th - Dallas

My date is 3/04 also. And my preop diet is on the 18th like yours. My surgery will be in Oxford, MS. We'll be in this thing together.
  22. I am really excited about my March 4th surgery date! My surgery is going to be done by Dr. Michael King at Baptist Memorial Hospital North in Oxford, MS. Even though i still have to come with up with close to $1200 before the surgery, I'm remaining positive. My insurance is Aetna 80/20. Now I am a little nervous about starting my clear liquid diet on Monday the 18th. I've been reading so many posts about how people are having a hard time dealing with not being able to eat solid foods. I'm afraid I might cave in and eat some solid foods during my 14-days pre-op. But at the same time I don't want any complications on the operating table, like the doc going in my stomach and finding a McRib there. I will be on this forum quite a bit looking for encouragement and motivation. Just ready for the whole procedure to be over with so I can be recovering.
  23. I just found out today my date is March 4. This is has been quite a journey for me. I was actually approved for my surgery back in Dec. after jumping through hoops to even get approval from my insurance company. Really excited though....can't wait!
