    Just saying hello :-)

I'm feeling a bit fustrated. I have been working on consuming more Protein via shakes and supplements. My NUT told me she doesn't want me drinking my calories, I'm confused because I was under the impression I would have to be on a liquid diet pre and post op. I was doing so well, getting natural raw nutrients and protein into my diet, now she has thrown me off. I felt great, now I'm confused. I don't like eating meat (I'm not a vegetarian), nor dairy....so, the shake is the best alternative for me to obtain protein. Any suggestions? I am trying to lose weight prior to the surgery, so far no luck. :-(

  3. You should try...About Time Protein powder, you can get it a GNC. It has 25g of protein, 103 calories - no artificial sugars, no artificial flavors, no grow hormones, gluten free, zero carbs, zero fat. It is 100% whey protein isolate, which I hear is supposed to be good for us. Did I mention it taste great?!?! I use it in my smoothies, that include kale/collard greens and pineapples with the "About Time" Protein Powder added, it's like a pina colada. You can also mix it with Water in a Blender Bottle. I paid $30 for a 2lb container. I hope this helps.

    Couch to 5k

I started C25K Monday, I was surprised that I could run (and not pass out at the end). I too have a goal to run a 5K race with my children, they are athletes (teenage boys). I so want to beat at least one of them (I know, not very mommy like), but it will feel really good. Good luck to you!!
  5. I'm glad you were able to speak with your doctor. Good luck with everything!
  6. If there is inflammation, redness, yellow (pus)!oozing from the incision you should contact your physician. You should have been using the antibiotic ointment when you were discharged to prevent infection at the incision site. You don't want to risk having an infection, considering your recent surgery and the size of antibiotic pills. Call your doctor first thing tomorrow to be safe. Good luck!!

    April 11! Confirmed!

Hello, I am an April 2013 sleever. Looking forward to sharing stories and providing support. Like you I have reached my heaviest, 250lbs. I can't believe it and I am fighting to get it off. I love to bake and cook, and it is the time of year for all of the above. However, lately, I have been using the NutriBullet, love it!!

    NEW YEAR's Resolutions!

I'm based in Philadelphia. I plan to have my surgery in April 2013.
  9. I hope so, I am addicted to my new green "juice" I think I love making it and seeing other's expression while I drink it. Yesterday, I told the guy at the car wash it was christmas dinner in a cup, greens, tomatoes, almonds/flaxseed (meat), banana (banana pudding), strawberries (versus cranberries). He said, "wow, in a cup" I said, YEP, and continued to slurp away. Classic.
  10. Hello, I'm new to the forum and excited to have found so much great information from "real people." I'm so nervous, I'm two months into my insurance required six supervised visits. I've finished labs, the sleep study and several x-rays. Everything has come back within normal limits, I don't have any co-morbidities. Which, makes me feel a little like I'm not trying hard enough. The thin is I have tried! Even this summer, I went gun-ho, eating an organic dieting, weight traing 2-3 times a week (light weights, multiple repetitions), cardio 45 minutes a day. After one month I gained 7 lbs....7lbs flipping pounds!!! I decided I need help, beyond my typical method. I want to lose 20-30lbs before the surgery, unfortunately, it seems like that is the same 20-30lbs I've been trying to lose for the last ten years off and on. Being truly honest with myself, I need to lose 100lbs, I have been telling myself I will settle for 30, hoping that will catapult me into weight loss euphoria. (reality check) I called my insurance, visits to the doctor, had a few test and now I'm here. I have not shared that I'm having the surgery with my family, friends (except one), nor colleagues. I know I need the surgery, but apart of me wants to try it on my own one more time. I know insane, right? I'm scared, but I'm hopeful that this will work. Reading all the stories here, gives me hope.

    Vitamix

I received the Nutribullet for my birthday last Tuesday. I love it, I make green smoothies all the time, and they are great. I believe the Nutribullet is $100. It was a great gift and I have been blasting every day since, I am happy I am getting in my vegetable and other versions of Protein including, flaxseed, maca, goji berries, ground up almonds. I'm even more excited about the amount of Fiber. I considered buying the vitamix, QVC and others raved about it, but for now my NutriBullet is kicking butt. Blasting kale, collard, berries, pears, bananas, apples, and grapes - did I mention it taste great. My kids 15 and 16 year old love my concoctions.

Hello Patienceshy..."How many doctors do you have to see and for what?" I am two months into my Medical Weight Management (MWM), my insurance requires six months of physician supervised weight management or tracking of weight loss attempts. My surgeon's program includes the MWM in addition to the other diagnostic test, such as, abdominal US, UGI, sleep study, and chest x-ray. The test and follow up visits are in preparation for the surgery to ensure there are no complications and my body is ready, i.e., sleep study, if I'm under during surgery and stop breathing that could be problem. My program requires a psych eval and a visit with a cardiologist along with lab test before my surgery. These are all small steps to prepare you for your new life. Good luck!!!
  13. I can sooooooo relate. It is funny, I give advice to so many people, and I have had girlfriends over for healthy cooking nights. The funny thing is, I'm the biggest one. I think my friends and strangers are saying to themselves..."if you know all of this, why do you look like that?" I know what to do, and practice it, except for the late night-stress binges. I still don't understand why I can't get this weight off. My birthday was 12/18 - I have been juicing and "Nutriblasting" twice a day. I have crazy energy, but I have not lost weight. I think my metabolism is hibernating.
  14. Thank you!! I too have decided to not drink, because I have heard that people that have the surgery turn to other things to cope with the loss of food. I come from a family that is plagued by various addictions, I believe my personal addiction is food. The funny thing is I eat healthy "good for you" foods, but my quantity and timing is horrible. I tend to eat before sleeping after a long day at work. I recently visited Miraval Spa and learned a lot about mindful eating and meditation. I am glad I have a few months before my surgery, so that I can practice being mindful about my interaction with food.
  15. I haven't been sleeved yet, but love MFP. I'm a few months from my surgery date. Good luck to you, please post updates on your progress. DeltaGirl9708 (MFP name)
