Funny I read this thread. I woke up this morning and the scale showed I gained back the 6lbs I lost for my pre-opt diet. At first I was WTF?! Then I remember my cycle is less then a week away. A big weight gain before The Curse is normal for me. As soon as my period starts my weight go back down. It goes down quicker if I take water pills though.

First a Manometry & 24/PH Study and now a IVC Filter
TheOldMeAgain posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Friday I had to do a manometry test that measure pressure in your esophagus to see if it is functioning properly. The catheter with the sensors on it was no fun n weird down my nose and throat. Then later the 24/PH Study. I had to put another catheter down my nose, into my esophagus to measure reflux of gastric contents. Checking for GERD, heartburn, regurgitation etc. Best of all I got to wear the monitor and catheter around my nose and face as a fashion statement. And finally tomorrow at 6:00am I have to get a IVC filter place in my goring or neck. It's to catch blood cloths before they reach my lungs or heart. They're putting me through the ringers right until the end... -
First a Manometry & 24/PH Study and now a IVC Filter

Ok Thanks. I'm at hospital now waiting. -
When I got mine I took two hydrocodone 30 mins prior and it still wasn't enough to reduce the pain. Took days to be able to manage the pain. Will be getting mine removed soon. The bad side effects are not worth the benefits IMO.

Also a March 13 Sleever-to-be. I start my liquid diet next week on the 27th. Well I get a lean meat and 1/2 cup of veggies but I'm going all liquid.

Your opinion counts....... but maybe not.
TheOldMeAgain replied to gohelpyourself's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read your other post and know what you mean. Never occurred to me that you were looking for results to compare your own to. One of the reasons I don't post much. I've read and been on the receiving end of self-righteous know-it-alls. There's wanting to help and there's "I Know Best So Let Me Set You Straight" attitudes. Sometimes were curious about things that requires specifies but know that were only going to get general info. That can be enough to get a ideal of whatever you want to know. -
How much did you lose the first 3-4 months? I want to be out of the 200+ Club by summer.
TheOldMeAgain replied to gohelpyourself's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I curious about others rate of loss too but NOT to compare myself to. My surgeon asked me my goal weight and I said I don't one. So no comparisons needed. It doesn't mean I can't be interest in the general rate most lose in the first few months like the OP. Were all adults and not everyone need a lecture based off what others posters wrote in the past. -
do you hate cooking?
TheOldMeAgain replied to moonlitestarbrite's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Took the survey. I don't like cooking because I'm not good at it. The few foods I can cook are very unhealthy. When trying to change the recipes to be more healthy it just doesn't taste good. Besides that I'm roommates with my sister who loves to cook and it's always fat fried food. She doesn't have a weight problem though. -
February/March 2014 sleevers
TheOldMeAgain replied to rebeccasams's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! I'm getting mine done at a Veterans Hospital. Will meet with the surgeon February 7 and hopefully get a date. First I had to do 3 months of VA MOVE program. After that I did a psych eval then got scheduled to see the surgeon. The Nut from the weight loss program told me that I should meet with the dietician that same day and the surgeon usually schedule surgery three weeks after that. I guess in between those wks I'll do endoscopy, sleep test, blood work and anything else the doc requires. Everything is done in house there too. Hopefully I'll get a early March date. -
That true. Twice I had to reschedule because Ob/Gyn was in surgery. A month earlier I had a sonogram so the doc said they had my measurements. Everyone is different. I really wanted to like the Mirena. I can't do other BC because of my history of blood clots on them and I turn into a psycho.

Doctors are mostly by the textbook. Experience ones should know that real life medical problems rarely happen like they're taught in their books. Unfortunately it leaves patients to suffer and made to feel life it's all in their head. Like back in the old days when PMS was thought to be. Doctors tell you that the hormones is so low and centralized it can't cause any side effects. I call BS on that. Not only is it impossible for anything in the universe to be 100% accurate, some women just can't handle any hormones. Science prove themselves often and medication are recalled all the time. Too bad the latter happen after it caused harm to many. And ladies never let anyone make you feel like your the problem. Were are a capitalist society driven by big pharmaceutical companies selling their goods. Mirena does have a lawsuit out there too. So your not alone.

Can i find them all in one (vitamins ?)
TheOldMeAgain replied to nancy264's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I looked up Baratric fusion up online. They have a soft chews that come on two flavors. They have most of the Vitamins we need in one. Here is a link. http://bariatricfusion.com/soft-chews-mixed-berry-flavor.html -
I have the Mirena. While it hasn't caused weight gain there are a lot of other side effects. I suffer from sever migraines which the Mirena made worse. It's been five months and I still suffer from breakthrough bleeding everyday along with horrible cramps when real period comes. I plan on getting mine removed after my surgery. If it wasn't for the Mirena rendering my migraine medication ineffective and worse I would keep it longer. Give my body more time to adjust to it.

My point was that I didn't have an alcohol problem. I never woke up needing a drink or drunk when stressed nor met any of the other qualifications for alcoholism. Yet like the pysch doctors it sounded like it. To me it was all part of socializing and being young. Anyways bottom line IMO there is no clear way to be certain in the evaluation process to say if someone is stable or ready for WLS from only one meeting. After surgery I absolutely believe therapy would be of great help. I plan on seeking out me a new counselor. One of the friends mention cousin had WLS. She lost all her weight and was determined never to regain it again. She turned to diet pills, and alcohol to deal with not dealing with her body dysmorphia and later died of liver failure. So I know transfer addictions are real, can and do happen. I just don't believe Presurgical psychological evaluation is a indicator of being ready for WLS. Change it to post-surgical mandatory counseling.

Everyone says take time to seek counseling, therapy is so helpful to you. I've sought out counseling a few times. Only once did I find it beneficial. Not everyone NEED therapy for their so called problems. Part of what's wrong with society now is everything is consider an issue that need to be dealt or help with. My psychiatrist tried to tell me I needed help with alcoholism. Based on the amount and times a month I drunk. He wouldn't take in consideration that my friends and I partied and socialized a lot. Even during weekdays. A few yrs later when asked did I need help with my drinking. I said no I never had a problem and I don't drink much now. He ignored what I said and asked did I get help. Looked skeptical when I said no I just don't go now and slowed down. First he didn't believe I could drink so much and not be an alcoholic and second if I was one that I could stop on my own. He's not the only psych doc I came across that believes that. The same goes for food and drugs. They think were all the same and one size fits all. You admit to anything that sounds like a current society problem, bang, your too damaged and unfit for _______, you have to get __ wks/months counseling first. My sister had months of counseling. It did her no good. She didn't change her ways and don't regret surgery. A few friends of our didn't get counseling ( one lied about some things) and are doing fine by eating right and exercising. I can't wait to join them in step and Zumba classes. So passing a psych eval doesn't guarantee being ready for WLS.

Bariatric coordinator thinks RNY would be better for me. What to do?!
TheOldMeAgain replied to Scylla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sister had the bypass. She does get dumping but it doesn't stop her from eating sweets. I guess the same way WLS won't help anyone long term if your not committed to a Lifestyle Change. You'll just find ways around it by ignoring the bad side effects of eating sugary and greasy foods. No matter what I say to my sister about how she shouldn't be eating certain things she tell me to mind my business. Please don't let that be your only reason for wanting RNY. There always a way around things. -

Does anyone regret this surgery?
TheOldMeAgain replied to Wenniegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, I want to know the good and the bad so I'll be prepared for it. IMO it's always better to know then not to know. Some may stay away from threads because they don't want their expectations of what's to come and will be to change. There has been times when I'm so focus on getting something I want that I refuse to acknowledge anything or anyone that could hinder it intentionally or not. But not WLS. It's too serious and life altering not to gather as much info as I can. So when I have my surgery I'll be aware of possible emotional and physical upheavals. -
Religious Knowledge Quiz
TheOldMeAgain replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got 13 out of 15 right. I grew up in a Pentecostal church and not Catholic. So this's my excuse for not knowing the difference between symbol of Christ body and blood and becoming Christ body and blood. Or it could be I never really paid attention. The other one was about the Protestant Reformation. No matter how much I read up on it I never truly understood the Catholics vs Protestants wars and conflict later with other dominations. IMO it all came down to power and control of The Pope. Which lead to nothing but chaos, fear and loss. -
I had my psychological evaluation a week ago and it could not have gone more wrong. I'm going through the Veterans Affairs Medical Center for WLS. I've been going there for health care for the last three years including for counseling. My past came up and I could feel the atmosphere in the room change. Well my history came back to haunt me. I was treated for PTSD and depression a few yrs ago. After a few months I stopped going for various reasons. That also came up. About an hour ago I received a phone call from the psyche doctor. Turns out it was worse than I imagine it to be. He recommend six to twelve months of counseling!! I was speechless. He went down the list of reasons and how its more about me being able to handle stress and be stable before surgery can be referred. I tried to explain my past has nothing to do with my ability to function and deal with stress now. Even asked if I could still have the surgery while at the same time going through therapy. He wasn't open to it. NEVER again will I be honest and open to a psychologist. A 45 minute conversation along with a vague T/F questionnaire is not enough to determine whether I'm mentally prepared to handle a huge life change. Been there, done that and I'm still here. I had no choice but to agree to counseling in hopes of one day getting the sleeve at the VA Hospital. After that I immediate call the office of my bariatric coordinator. I asked if I could get a oustiside psychologist that specialize in WLS or do I have to use the in-house psychologist. The lady that answer the phone said that was a good question and she'll have to get back to me with the answer. So right now I'm venting, upset and waiting. If they won't accept an outside source then I'm going to ask if I can get a second opinion from another in-house doctor or speak with the surgeon to see if a psych eval fail the final answer to proceed with WLS.

Psych Eval Gone Wrong
TheOldMeAgain replied to TheOldMeAgain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That comment about your husband will cheat because your fat was unprofessional, uncalled for and offensive! Good that you reported her. Professionals these days act like they don't know what boundaries are. If I was in your situation there would've been one hell of a show down. The issue with the doctor that did my initial evaluation I believe was that he held the past against me. Like your friend I suffered from PTSD. He assumed because I didn't get counseling from a professional I was stuck in the past and not over. For some reasons doctors are bias and think you can't get past depression, stress, addictions etc without their help. They fail to realize that family and friends support along with time can just as beneficial. There were also some miscommunication but overall I think his assessment of me was inaccurate and off but not intentionally harmful. He seem the conservative type and probably thought he was really helping me. I'm glad you had at least your doc in your corner to fight for you. -
Psych Eval Gone Wrong
TheOldMeAgain replied to TheOldMeAgain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The thing I don't get the most is what do they expect? No one I know have a problem or stress free life. Yet if you mention these everyday factors your suddenly too depressed to handle surgery and need therapy until stable. So many tell you just to be honest otherwise your not mentally ready but I don't believe that. Obese ppl are general depressed and have some issues that head docs seem to judge harshly. Get out of her! Sorry you experience this too. Did he tell you how long you'll have to be in counseling? -
Psych Eval Gone Wrong
TheOldMeAgain replied to TheOldMeAgain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update: it's been months but for any that are curious I requested a revaluation. The person who did my first one boss did the second one and I passed. Best advice be your own advocate. Two doctors can talk and evaluate you and come out with different interpretations. Next up is for me to contact my Bariatric coordinator. -
I have about a few hundred iBooks I'm working through. Right now I'm reading Sidney Sheldon If Tomorrow Comes. I read all his books and no one compares to him when it comes to suspense. Catherine Coulter and Sandra Brown come close. Old school Nora Roberts did too. Next I'm going to try to finish J. R. Ward Lover Avenged. These books are starting to lose focus, not about romance, the Blackdagger Brotherhood but plot device props to continue the series past it due date. I LOVE Vampire Books. Not the Twilight fluff kind but the deep, soul searching historical Ann Rice type. I also like Christine Feehan vampire books. They remind me of Bertrice Small historical romances in how steamy the love scenes can be. Anyways, still no vampire books that I love as much as Ann Rice books so if anyone knows any authors please let me know.
