Dec. 17 Sleevers - How are you on week out?
terravue replied to sars's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Darn lost my post I just wrote, I'll try again. I think it is good your program is working with you individually and tha tyou are listening to your body. do they emphasize eating protein foods first? Mine has me eating 1/4 cup of protein food, chewing well and eating slowly and even if that is all I am able to get in, it stays in the tummy longer and helps keep hunger away longer. they won't allow us to have any liquids, soups, broth or anything that will make the meal slide through too fast leaving us hungry. -

Yes, I have been going to the Wells Fargo center one! I went yesterday. Be nice to meet you if you go next month. Did you go to the Nov and Dec. one? I was there. I described some of my program in my first post above, one big difference is at Richmond we are not allowed protein shakes. richmond has a good program overall though more strict than others I hear about which I wasn't sure about at first but now I kind of appreciate it. I have noticed some folks on other sites with programs that are pretty loose and some are struggling more. -

Did you go to Kaiser South San francisco? I almost went there but decided on Richmond and Dr. Baggs instead. I am amazed that the two programs are different with in Kaiser. I go to a support group in Sonoma County which is for any one from any program and the main Dr. there has more of a Mediterranean diet. The one you went to sounds different still. I know my body can't handle those kinds of carbs in general so I don't think they would work for me while trying to lose weight with a tiny stomach. -

Wow it totally amazes me how different all these programs are! My program is all concerned about the healing staples with no caffeine and doesn't really think I'll be eating carbs like pasta and rice again in this lifetime! You have to follow what makes sense to you and feels right for your body! -

Hi folks, I was sleeved on Dec. 19th and have been looking for a peer group to talk to, Is my date close enough to join yours? I have lost 25 lbs post surgery so far, I actually had a week stall due to TOM and probably the 3rd week stall that I was warned about by my friend who is two years out from surgery. My program at my Kaiser is pretty strict even different than other Kaiser's which seems strange to me. I had clear liquids until out of hospital, then full liquids for two weeks (cream soups, yogurt, pudding etc.) then dietician put me on pureed, I can have 1/4 cup of pureed protein food 3 times a day no snacks. supposed to get the protein in first then veg or fruit if I have room but I never have room. pretty much I have been having tuna, egg salad and the like but I also have things like chicken salad or some soft stew meat and chew the dickens out of it. I am supposed to go on soft foods on the 18th but I don't think it will be much different than what I am having when I chew a lot. we are also not allowed protein shakes ever so I am going to look into the clear protein drinks to try and up my protein. I had a hiatal hernia fix as well when I had my sleeve so I do feel it if I take too big a sip or more than a baby spoon size bite. walking most everyday as well. the liquids are still not close to 64 oz. a day but the dietician said that could take a while. The other thing that is different with my program is that I am not supposed to have foods like yogurt and soup anymore because they say they are slider foods and don't keep me full long enough. I find it interesting how different the programs are, everyone is having great progress here! all the best, Terry -
1 week post surgery and wondering ...

Like Momw said it is probably the Co2 expelling. Like she said walking is key, deep breathing, make the most of any toots that come! It will go away. You will feel better. Also stick to baby sips, I can feel a drink of water go all the way down if I have too big a sip. when I eat I use baby spoons and a tiny bowl to hold just the amount I am supposed to eat on my plan which is 1/4 cup right now. It reminds me how much I can handle and then still chew the heck out of it. I think this is a good use of the "tool" part of the sleeve and letting it heal and keeping it small will optimize weight loss. -
A month out...How much Should I be able to eat?
terravue replied to buttrfli1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually this great that you found out so soon to turn this around, you will still be successful, just readjust! You can do it! some go back to liquids a few days to shrink the tummie, perhaps check that out. then go back slower with a program that you have researched that sounds closer to what the successful people here are eating. You can have what you had later on, it will be there, right now you are in weight loss mode. We need to make the most of the tool of the tiny tummie now! -

It doesn't sound like your program is as well defined as some if they are willing to let you see what you tolerate, I could get into some real trouble with that, hee hee. glad you are questing now, so you get the best result from your surgery. -

wow that sounds like a lot to me at 1 month out. the programs are all so different even amongst the people in support groups that meet in my area. Are you following a program from a dietician for a sleeve patient? I am only one week out but my Kaiser program has drilled it into me that I will be eating still soft foods of mainly protein even when I go to modified regular diet at 12 weeks out, it is 1/3 cup of protein, always eaten first and then add the other stuff as mainly condiments if you can fit them. they also limit the carbs a lot. Then my friend has a different program with more choices eventually but the amounts still started out smaller for longer, she lost 170 lbs two years ago. they keep telling me to keep the tool small, the little tiny stomach. maybe regroup with eating the simpler proteins first. I think you are right to question your eating program right now and adjust it. I wish you all the best -
December 19th sleevers?
terravue replied to biddykm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, I was sleeved on Dec. 19th, a hiatal hernia was corrected as well, I was in the hospitial 2 days mainly because I am very sensitive to anesthesia and pain meds make me really sick. Finally home with my little oz. cups of water laid out, I don't want to go back to the hospital to have an iv for dehydration. I have been having trouble with mucus, having to cough it up hurts, I guess my sinus's are draining down my throat. Sorry so gross but I wake up coughing and feel like I am drowning. I made some chicken broth today and have a SF jello I taste every once in a while, but mainly water. I can feel every little bit go all the way down My program is very specific about what to have, I notice that there are an amazing number of programs out there. Luckily I have a good friend who had a RnY a couple of years ago to bring me back from the thoughts of why the heck I did this! Just have to get by these first days, Terry
