How much weight can i expect to lose?
bigjoe replied to kcinpa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A very good friend of mine was 425 the day of his surgery on 11/15. As of this week, he has dropped down to 335. I had my surgery on 12/19 and weighed in at 308. As of today I am down to 270. -
I just saw my doctor on Friday. He said my goal for the next 2 months is 20 pounds. FWIW

So.. I'm almost 7 weeks out and I need advice!

Yes. Sushi without the rice. Excellent source of Protein. And is very easy to go down and digest. I used to also have an aversion but I got over it by keeping in mind my food menu would have to change due to my WLS. You can do it! -

Have you tried some Shashimi? -
The first couple weeks are hard but the last 10 days have been good. I am still eating Soups & soft foods, watching my Protein intake, etc. Down 30lbs and my clothes don't feel the same.

Ok, I'll be the first to admit what nobody wants to talk about, Dumping. I was sleeved on 12/19. My first mini dump happened after a drive from LA to the OC to meet a client. I had to cancel with my client while parked in their parking structure. I couldn't find a bathroom fast enough. Today, I have traveled back east on business. I just had some dinner (small bowl of Soup, it's all I eat) and was driving back to the hotel when it hit me, again! I had to park behind the hotel, and wait for people to clear out, and find my way up 5 flights of stairs because the damn elevator in the back couldn't come fast enough. I see now I am going to have to keep a bathroom close. Not sure what is causing it. Ugh!

I have never been lactose intolerant prior to being banded. After being banded about 4mos, I became severely lactose intolerant. Trust me, this was no where close to being lactose intolerant. However, I do see a pattern. Being banded in the past, I've developed a habit of Water loading before eating food. Tonight, I did it with Thai Tea. Going to learn to make better choices.

Yes, I may have omitted additional symptoms. I know what Dumping Syndrome is and in fact my doctor did warn me that is possible with the sleeve. I'm not looking for a diagnosis. But rather simply share what is going on 'in a day of the life' of a sleeved-one. Dumping happens! Not everyone here is dealing with it. However, this is a support group and I am merely looking for some light hearted support from people like me.

I have been going through my head trying to figure it out. If been really well. I just think something hit my empty stomach and that is raced through me. Perhaps, I should have refused the 'Thai Tea' before my food. So yes, I think it was the milk/sugar passing through that caused this to happen.

Lapband to sleeve weight loss

The doctor did an exam where I drank a solution and did an X-ray. When he saw my chest on the screen both he & I saw that I had stretched my esophagas. -
Lapband to sleeve weight loss

I had my band removed and sleeved on 12/19. I was unfilled completely in October due to dilation. No real complications and I'm hungry as hell at times. But after about 4/5 bites I'm full. -
Switch from regular milk to Almond Milk. It helped me a lot. I had grits, too, at 10 post op. I was at a point where I needed something more than I was getting from the creamed Soups & broth.

SoCal - bander to VSG on 12/19.

I started getting really hungry on 12/24 and today was another full blown day. Again, having been on the band - I am pretty sure that my doctor on Friday will have me move on the purée foods. The liquid diet is the worse for me at the moment. My sense of smell is now super heightend. I have to admit I did cheat a little with some cheese and watermelon. I made sure to over chew, as when I was on the band, and had no issues. One thing I am noticing is I do get full faster with the VSG than I ever did with the band. But the downside is, at least right now on the liquid stage, I do get hungry faster. I am sure this has more to do with linguists vs solids.

I also had my surgery on the 19th. Spent 2 nights at the hospital. I am home now. My surgery was a removal of the lapband, conversion to VSG, as well as a hernia repair. I was sent home with a drain bulb still attached. Still dealing with some discomfort and lots of gas. Trying to stay on top of my Protein. My diet is mostly Water, cranberry juice, a Protein shake, and a little tomato Soup. My doctors diet has me on liquids for 2 weeks before moving to purée.
