Thanks you so much both of you. I thought it was a little cooky when I just started. I start with a trainer tomorrow and see nutritionist on Friday. I -

T'was the night before surgery, and I got my period
Joy0125 replied to 2013isit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That truly stinks!! I don't know about a tampon but I'm thinking like lucky8mb1 that you will have to wear the post birth stuff which is like the pad of all pads. Good luck! -
I hate this surgery.
Joy0125 replied to alley-gator's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there!! I had regrets when I sat in the pre op room and then several times after. I also hit a stall pretty early on. Make sure you are getting your calories, protein, and water and it will get moving again. You will miss things. I am still trying to figure out food so I am eating what I know I can and have had success with but getting bored now. I have wanted something yummy too. Our old preferences don't go away overnight. We are new to this and have so much to learn about our new body and how to use/work it best. Know you are not alone. It does get better. I am only a few days ahead of you and just got out of my stall. -
How soon did you go back to work?
Joy0125 replied to Kennedy310's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could have used fmla but didn't. I had surgery on Tuesday and went back to work on Thursday. Thursday wasn't great, Friday was much better. I was out and about on the second day. I also have a sedentary job. I was on vaca for a week following that so I have some time to adjust to the new way of eating. -
Amazing what excites us now right?

I have to admit, I felt a little bit like a super hero lol.... Kidding... but yes such a rush, put me in a frame of mind that I can do anything, and an overwhelming sense of pride.

Ibehere10-I didn't think I could do it. I ran 3 minutes in every 10 minute increment so it wasn't constant. It was truly exhilarating!!

What did you lose your 1st month?
Joy0125 replied to PoohSoup0803's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A few days short of a month and 22 pounds with about a 1 week stall mixed in -
Thank you amwr6582 for posting this and everyone for their answers. I was just sleeved on 12/18 and got mine a week early and just different. I was about to post a question but decided to do a search first. This made me not worry so much! Does it get back to a more regular pattern after the first month?

Tips for how to survive your upper GI (barium swallow)
Joy0125 replied to pomeerin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this in the hospital post surgery. I never would have known or would have been in the same boat. Thanks for sharing! -
I would say at least 3 weeks worth to be safe. You don't know how well you will tolerate food.

The protein really depends on your doc's instructions. Here are my doc's instructions: 50-70 grams of protein per day, minimum of 48oz of water or other zero calorie liquid per day. It is not really per serving but per day. The diet and progression instructions vary widely by doc. I was clear liquids the first week so had to use Ispoure to get protein in and really wasn't getting to 50-70g protein yet. Week 2 was full liquids and a little easier to hit because the internal swelling starts to go down and I could introduce protein shakes. Week 3 soft solids can be introduced. Week 4 can begin introducing regular food in small portions. From looking at other sleeves each dr has very different requirements so you need to be sure you and doc connect on post op diet.

As far as recovery, it really depends on the person. I went back to work by day 3 but I have a pretty sedentary office job. I also recovered well overall. I didn't have a lot of pain and was out and about by day 2. If your recovery is like mine, you won't really need help but you do need to have the drinks/food on hand. I am not familiar with iHerb. For the pudding, ideally think you need to find sugar free. Not sure if you have tried any of the powders in your post but if possible I'd recommend you get a sample before buying anything big. Some are disgusting and you wind up wasting a lot of money. Do you have GNC or Vitamin Shoppes there? They have everything you need as far as protein supplements.

It really depends on the person. You should be fine. I went back to work 3 days after surgery but I have a sedentary job so wasn't a big deal. I didn't feel great the first 3 days or so but was getting around easily. If your recovery is anything like mine you will be ok as long as you prepare and have everything on hand (protein drinks/shakes, water, etc)

I take a multi vitamin, one in morning, one in evening. I take calcium, 3 tablets but I have to make sure I don't take them within 2 hours of the multi or one of them cancels out the benefits of the other. I take the calcium in a split dose as well. I used to take them all together as well so it's been a change to get used to.

I start with a trainer on Monday. I hope my experience is much better. Sorry to hear that they commented the way they did. They should really keep their personal opinions to themselves.

Just cant seem to shake it off.
Joy0125 replied to FAWife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel so bad for you and not quite sure how to respond but want you to know I'm here, I have read your post and if there is anything I can do, just let me know. I cant imagine having little ones, just having major surgery, and my husband being away for an extended period. You are in a funk. You need to fight your way out of it. You may need a good cry, so do it, wipe your tears and start fresh. Go outside and walk it off. Are there any wife groups you can join so you get involved and have to get up and out and socialize? If I think of anything else, will share. Again, I am here. Chin up! -
I am struggling please help
Joy0125 replied to Elyne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are still healing and may still be swollen. You really need to try and get fluids and proteins in. Have you tried any protein shakes? Can you keep soup down? They have some protein. Diet iced tea was on my list of ok things to drink from my doc but lacks protein. Hang in there and try to sip, sip, sip. -
I have 3 that have healed pretty nicely. I still have 2 that while they look better than when I first ad the surgery, they are not completely healed and they are the larger ones. They are scanned over but still pretty nasty to look at. I heard it takes a long time to truly heal.

I would say up your water. Make sure you aren't confusing hunger with thirst. Someone on this site who lost a lot shared that on another thread and it really helped me. Thirst doesn't feel the same as it used to pre-op so it can be hard to decipher. Hope it helps!

You are making a good decision. It is about living in a more healthy, active, comfortable, and confident way. You will have doubts for a while. I remember sitting in pre-op room with my hubby and crying because I was taking a risk having surgery for something that was "optional". I have children and I kept thinking what if something went wrong. Day 2 post surgery, I felt pretty yucky and thought again, "Why did I do this to myself?" Here I am almost 4 weeks out and feel so positive about my decision. I am down 22 pounds. Food does not control me, rather I control it. I am actually excited to weigh myself and bought a scale so I could weigh in daily - who would have thunk? Focus on the long term goal. You will be different but in a great way. Good luck! Stay positive!

Able to eat almost *too* well sometimes...
Joy0125 replied to EnigmaInKY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A woman who lost a lot on here I thought gave some good advice and then I just heard it again on the news the other day. She said that she realized sometimes when she thought she was hungry it was actually thirst. Make sure you are getting that water in! I have tried it and it works.
