Bariatricpal scared me shitless
deedadumble replied to elpasovet's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You may not consider yourself morbidly obese, but you fit the medically accepted criteria for morbid obesity: - More than 100 lbs. over your ideal body weight - Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of over 40 - Have a BMI of over 35 and are experiencing severe negative health effects, such as high blood pressure or diabetes, related to being severely overweight - Unable to achieve a healthy body weight for a sustained period of time, even through medically supervised dieting -
From my research, reactive hypoglycemia is pretty common about 18-24 months after WLS. I have it and noticed it mainly at night when I would have a carb snack with my evening meds. I have to have a small amount of protein with every snack and meal.

I've read a couple of really bad reports about Cosmed and messy stitching and having to have repairs done because of it. They are probably one of the lowest in costs though. I just came back from surgery with Dr. Sauceda. It was an amazingly good experience.

It doesn't sound like love to me. Dependency, settling, companionship, but not love. If you can see yourself in five years doing the same thing you are doing now what would you tell yourself?

OMG! I'm doing it! Scheduled LBL, breast lift, arm lift and neck lift with Dr. Sauceda on July 22. Anxious but excited.

Plastics scheduled for July 22nd

I went alone and it really wasn't a problem. Even in the hospital after the first day and the shower on the second day I was able to get up and move around on my own. It really helped that there were two other patients at the hotel with me that helped keep me company. We went out for dinner almost every night. -
Shingles?
deedadumble replied to I will what I want's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was 44 when I got the vaccine. I had to self-pay, but I would do about anything to not get it again. The vaccine doesn't guarantee it, but it does reduce the likelihood. -
Shingles?
deedadumble replied to I will what I want's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Shingles feels like you've been hit by a truck, so if there's just a rash, no blisters, and low pain levels it's probably not shingles. The rash is also pretty easy to identify from what my doctor said it's very distinctive. I've had shingles twice, the first on the side of my chest and the second on the side of my head. After the second bout I paid for the shingles vaccine out of pocket. -
What are you most proud of since wls? Or what are you striving for? Most memorable moment?
deedadumble replied to CTRose1160's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Great thread! My most memorable moment was during my one-year surgiversary trip to Hawaii to visit my sleeve sister. I ran the Maui Oceanfront Half Marathon on Sunday and rode a bicycle down Haleakula on Monday and took a scuba diving lesson on Monday afternoon. I was so proud of myself for all I had accomplished during that year and to be able to be that active during a vacation was a dream come true. -

Been back home since Saturday and thankfully got to take the last drain (out of 7!) out today. It was like my body kicked it out. I was just sitting not doing anything and the stitch popped and the drain popped out like a turkey timer. Guess I was done cooking! Ha! Feeling good. Took a short drive to the store to pick up some green juice (my body is craving it). Still having to take a pain pill at night, but hoping to try to cut back to half a pill tomorrow. The majority of my pain is in my arms and most of it is from the garments at the elbow. I have existing pain issues in the elbow area and the garments are exacerbating those issues. Overall very happy with my results. Will post before after pics at some point. -
Questions? Night sweats, vitamins and exercise
deedadumble replied to tsangia's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I figured out that my night sweats were being caused by reactive hypoglycemia. I have to be really careful with what I eat close to bed time. -
Plastic Surgeon In Mexico after WLS?
deedadumble replied to lookingmommy's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Sleeve with Dr. Lopez in Puerto Vallarta 1/17/13. I'm in Monterrey, Mexico right now recuperating from an LBL, AL, BL/BA, autologous butt flap augmentation, and a lower face/neck lift. Felling pretty good considering the number of procedures. Dr. Sauceda is my doctor. -
VSG March 22, 2014 with Dr. Alejandro Lopez (Long Post)
deedadumble replied to rleesloan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sorry I high jacked your thread on that last post OP! Your surgery probably took more than 90 min because of the hernia repair. You may also take longer to come out of anesthesia than average. I am a very slow wake-up and I was in recovery for 3 hours where I just kept wanting to go back to sleep. Doctors prefer to monitor me closely in that condition because I also will forget to breathe. I don't think it's unusual for the prep, surgery, and recovery to take 5-6 hours. Nice thorough write up though! Wish you great success! -

Unless things have changed (and they probably have since my surgery was 1/17/13), Puerto Vallarta can be a different (mostly in good ways) experience than TJ. The hotel was not as accommodating and didn't have free anything and no Popsicles that we could find. Dr. L does fewer surgeries there, when I went there were only 2 others (and one has become one of my best friends and sources of support the past 1.5 years). The hotel location is beautiful and I felt like I was on a resort vacation. I spent a lot of my recovery time laying on a recliner under an umbrella on the beach. I wish I had booked extra days before because I would have like to have done some whale watching. Don't know if he still does, but Dr. L and the coordinator stay at the same hotel, so he is a quick phone call away most of the time. Surgery is done in a brand new hospital in Nueva Vallarta (they list a surgery center too so not sure if the use the hospital all the time). Good luck with your surgery! -

Doing really well today. Got the drains out of my face which was a huge relief. Looking forward to getting a few more drains out on Tuesday. Thankfully I'm between work projects so nothing pressing to do for work. Just have to copy a bunch of files off into a hard drive and ship it in and I'll be done. Can't wait to see the final body results in a few months. So far everything looks amazing. -

Thanks all. Moved to the hotel today and here with my two plastic surgery sisters. Feeling good. Uncomfortable but not in pain. So glad I could get this all over at once. -
Here's a smoothy recipe from my acupuncturist. It has worked better that anything I've ever tried and it tastes pretty good. Shopping list: 1 papaya ( great digestive enzymes) 1 small container of aloe Vera juice (natural laxative) I buy it at walgreens 1 container of prunes 1 small bottle of juice (I use Sambazon Energy juice available at Walmart but you can substitute) Cut the papaya up and freeze on a flat tray Smoothie: 1/4 cup papaya 4 prunes 1/4 aloe juice 1/4 juice Blend in blender. May need to add some Water and ice if you prefer. Can add different fruit or juice to vary the flavor, but the base needs to stay the same. I guarantee if you take this every day you will be so regular they'll set the clock by you. If you're having immediate trouble you'll need something that works faster like Milk of Magnesia or Smooth Move Tea.

Had my LBL, AL, BL/BA (240cc) and added butt flap implants during markup. Had neck lift today. All pain is manageable. Love Dr S and Paty. It is so apparent how much they wan't to do a good job. Communication wit the nurses has not been too hard. I get out my iphone if I'm not too sure they understand, the sauceda support group from obesity help has been invaluable. Overall pleased with my results. Cried the most when I saw my arms. Here's a pick the day of surgery: -

Review of Dr. Alejandro Lopez
deedadumble replied to kellymoon122013's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
1/17/13 surgery. I have lost 82 pounds and since October have been happily maintaining at 183 (I'm 5'11"). I had plastic surgery today (LBL, AL, and BL/BA) and feel like I will get down to 170-175 after I recover. I had stalls along the way, but never ever let them bother me. I only tried setting a date/weight goal one time and that did not work for me. Instead, I set 60/60/60 goals every day. 60+ ou water, 60+ ou protein, and 60+ min of exercise. I believe whole-heartedly that was the key to my success. I also turned into a regular runner, although I'm very slow. I have run numerous 5Ks, two 10Ks (first in 11/13), three half marathons (13.1 miles), and 1 Ragnar Relay (200 miles/12 runners/2 vans/31 hours/2 hours sleep. I did 3 legs/12.5 miles total). BUT, the distance running (over 5K) really slowed my losing. Good luck! -

How do you delete posts you have made
deedadumble replied to mentalistfan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can ask a host or Alex to delete a thread. I looked at the threads that you have started that have not gotten any responses and noticed that the majority were posted in the wee hours of the morning. Most people read threads by going to "current threads" and if they're not awake at that time they won't ever see them to respond because they would have to scroll through a hundred + posts. The only other thing that I noticed on the threads with no responses is that you weren't clear on what you wanted. If you have a question get right to the point and don't bury it in a bunch of extraneous info. If you need support, state that upfront. BTW... no one is going to judge you based on unresponded threads. Personally, I wouldn't bother deleting them. If you still need an answer or support, post a reply to your own thread and ask for help (clearly and concisely). Also do it between 6pm eastern to 12pm eastern. More people are on and responding at those times. Good luck! -
