Warning! This is gross!
deedadumble replied to shannyd4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's rare, but dumping can happen with VGS. Mine happened after going to Costco. I ate a few of the samples (a protein bar, pomegranate juice, and a bite of turkey sandwich). I think the protein bar had too much sugar in it and combined with the Pom juice and eating while walking around my system just couldn't take it. The lesson learned is to follow the rules your doctor laid out. I generally do follow them, but I'm 6mo out and 20 pounds from goal and I'm having one of the worst weeks of my life. -
HELP PLS--Walking/Running advise for 5 k
deedadumble replied to Evolving's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Depending how in shape you are now, a new runner will generally not be able to run a 5K in 30 min. As you train with the app, add some additional fast walking until you get up to 40-45 min. I ran (actually a very slow job) my first 5K in 44 minutes. I trained for 12 weeks before and kept adding minutes after I finished the 8 wk program until I was running for 3.1 miles. -
HELP PLS--Walking/Running advise for 5 k

I've been using Run 5K by Felt Tip. It was one of the first C25K apps that were released. I used it in 2009 when I trained for my first 5K with it. I'm using it again now to prepare for Disney's Haunted 5K in October. -

I had this happen today for the first time and I'm 6 mo out. Thankfully, there was a bathroom at the marina that I was driving by. If I had to wait 1 more second it would have been a nightmare. -

Ran outside for the first time since summer started. After some illness and injury I backed up to week 3 last week (I had finished week 8). I did w4d1 today and it was pretty easy. Did the run going through the park and instead of coming back at halfway, I kept running. Walked all the way back, so I got a good 50 min workout in the heat. My next 5K is the Disney Haunted 5K on October 5th. Also, got a FitBit Flex yesterday (Best Buy has them online). So far I like it, except the clasp is so hard to close. I think it will help me with my fitness goals. I've had a BodyBugg in the past, but I hated the monthly fee and the armband. Anyone else using a fitness tracker? -
Onederland today! The scale is finally moving again after stalling for 3 weeks.

So we've got the 3-wk stall and the 6-month curse! Any more to look forward to? I've actually been really lucky, this is my first stall in 6 months. I'm in menopause (surgically), so I don't have the cycle induced fluctuations. I'm going to the store and then getting on the treadmill when I get back. Do you think the 5:2 would be ok for someone at 6 months? I was thinking of trying it in a week if the crackdown on my bad habits doesn't work. -

If the knot is small (pea-size) it may be an internal suture. They dissolve, but sometimes may take 2 months to heal completely. I had several that popped out through the skin and they felt like they were pulling. If the knot is larger (dime-size or larger) it may be a surgical hematoma. This is a collection of blood in a sac near an incision. They usually resolve on their own, but should have your doctor check it out.

I'm not sure I would call it judgement. A lot of response that low BMIers get is one of concern, especially from the vets. They are at a point where the reality has set in that after 6-9 months the initial restriction and hunger dampening effects lessen and they have to start working the sleeve. I'm just not sure if the benefit of losing 5 BMI points matches the risks and negatives of the sleeve, especially if you don't have any comorbities. Sure, the risks of surgery are lower with a lower BMI, but there are quite a few examples in the complications forum of low BMI patients with severe complications. Then you have the negatives of the surgery. You will never again be able to eat like you did before the surgery. One bite too many can send you into a wave of slimeys, foamies, and cold sweat. Getting all your water in can seem like a full time job. Your hair will probably fall out for several months. You must take vitamins every day. It's not as easy to socialize as it was before (so many activities surround food). I definitely don't regret the surgery, but I have days where I have twinges of regret. I would hope that if you're having surgery at any BMI that you go into with every piece of information that you can gather. -

I got back on the wagon (and the treadmill) yesterday. I've been battling horrible pain from fibromyalgia the last month because my new insurance won't cover my medicine (Cymbalta) that has been working for 2 years until I try a medicine on their approved list. The new medicine (Gabapentin) just isn't working for me. I noticed a mental pattern that I start to use the pain as an excuse to not exercise and then I noticed I was using it as an excuse to eat more (I hurt, therefore I deserve a treat). Bottom line is that exercise releases pain killing endorphins, so I got my butt back into gear. I decided to go back a few weeks and not push myself so hard to progress. Also called my rheumatologist to see how long I have to try the new meds before going back to Cymbalta. My weight loss has also stalled out. I'm sure it's the additional slider foods, lack of regular exercise, traveling, and work stress. Today is my 6 month surgiversary. I've lost 64 pounds and am 2 pounds away from onederland. My birthday is a little over two weeks away, so I'm going to do a mini challenge to be down to 195 by my birthday. To get there I am going to run/walk on treadmill every day, drink over 64ou of water, get 60+g of protein in every day, and log every bite. Anyone want to join me on this challenge? Hope everyone is having a super day! -
Valtrex for Cold Sore
deedadumble replied to MizzouGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you can find a dentist nearby that uses a laser a lot of times they can do a treatment on the cold sore. The laser destroys the virus. They also help reduce repeat occurrences. I haven't had one since my laser treatment almost 3 years ago. Before that I was getting them every 4-6 months. -

I'm not "grading", I just don't understand most of what you're posting. "ONCE again": this is the first time I've ever posted anything about punctuation and it was only because you seem to be genuinely interested in why people on here don't post on your topics. -

I looked back at some of your topics and most seem to be just statements, not questions. You'll get a lot more responses with clearly worded questions. Also, personally I tend to skip over topics that are not posted in complete sentences with periods. -
