Thank you for your help. I agree with some of the stuff you guys said, and I disagree with stuff you said, and all of it has helped me a great deal. Peace and Love to all of you. Leigh -

Well I'm still deciding, the things i like about bypass are that most people are a lot less hungry than bandsters, from reading in both forums some of you guys say things as if you are still struggling with dieting, exactly the things I say when I'm cutting back, and I'm not banded. Most bypass people are not struggling with hunger issues or wanting to eat more, some of them could careless if they ever eat. That is attractive to me personally because I don't want to get caught up in that I want to eat more, but just can't, I need for my hunger to go away somewhat. There is a hormone (ghrelin) that makes people think that its time to eat, when you get bypass the hormone decreases significantly, with banding it does not, you are just as hungry as you were before. The hormone is the reason bypass people are so successful, if they fail and gain weight back, it is a serious psychological problem. I'm sure most of you already know that about the ghrelin. The weight loss coming off fast is not a positive for bypass, I want to be healthy, I could careless about looking good. I would like for it to come off slow. Which brings me to another negative for bypass, I'm nervous about being under nourished. I'm not worried about dying, I don't know why, I'm just not, complications maybe, but not death. The statistics are about 1 and 600 for death, and usually the patient dies because they are 500 and + 600lbs, or blood clots and of course leaks. Now for banding, the thought of a foreign object in my body weirds me out more than being cut, sounds strange, I know, but really. I definitely don't like the idea of being rearranged either. Banding would be a lot better for nutrition, for slower weight loss. Can you see how confused I am? One last thought is that I absolutely love bread, salad and fries (I know that with either I can't eat much anyway, but still), these are my favorite things in the whole world. I don't know if I could handle the possibility of not ever eating them again, not ever eating a sandwich, oh my gosh, just kill me now. I know with bypass most people have no problems with those foods. I don't know, I was soooo all about lap-band and now I just don't know. Thank you for your comments and listening. I'm not sure what to do, and until I'm overwhelmed with one or the other, I'm just going to waste time I guess, stick a carrot in my mouth and shut up. Sorry about my run-on sentences Thanks again, Leigh -

I know you all are going to convince me to do the lap band, thats what i wanted, i have the same post in the gastric bypass forum, i want to see what both of you all have to say, thats exactly what im looking for. I'm trying to talk to as many people as i can to see what problems i could or could not deal with. Thank you for your replies, I welcome more if you got them. -
Hi I'm trying to make up my mind. I'm trying to decide which is best for me, lap-band or gastric bypass. I'm sure there have been lots of discussions before, but, I'm new to all of this. I have tried to weigh them, but it's not working out for me. Q1 : Does anyone have any words of wisdom that might help me out? Why do you think one is better than the other? Q2 : What foods can you absolutely not eat, or eat much of. Also, if you want to include what happens when you eat them. Q3: What were your complications, if any? Thanks Leigh

hey not sure if you guys will get this, but im looking into banding at cenntenial. what insurance do you have? did you have a good experience? -
Do you guys feel the same amount of hunger as you did before you were banded? Do you still WANT to eat a whole lot but the band stops you? I have friends that have gastric and thier hunger is non-existent. But I can't get over the rearranging of your insides. Leigh

New Hope, My diabetes is super under control, I have an A1C of 5.0. I'm controlled by diet and exercise, I work very hard at it. My blood sugars are better than normal people. Sometimes I have to make myself eat more carbs just so that I don't end up in the hospital. I have to worry about low blood sugar, not high. I would like to lose about 60 lbs so that in the future I won't have to worry about my diabetes progressing, and ending up on meds or insulin. Are you diabetic? I'm wondering what they do for diabetics during the liquid phase. The liquids that are allowed acording to my plan have no carbs in them. I'm worried that I will have to have carbs. If anyone here is diabetic, did you have carbs during your week of liquids? Thank you all who are replying. Leigh

how do i find your pics? btw i used to live in saltillio

i wont have to worry much about the life style change because other than sticking to the plan, i already eat the way they want me too. the only change i will have to make is sticking to it, which i know is a huge comitment.

Delarla, I completely identify with you, I am losing now, but i have failed at 100 diets too because I have to cut things out, this one that im on now will probably fail too. I'm just not sure if I want to get banded so that I can eat the same things I am eating now. DeLarla says "But I got the band because I have been on too many strict diets." ---this is the exact reason why I want to be banded, I can't handle this strict diet, I'm about to go insane:) D-- "I hope nobody gets mad at me because a lot of people, once banded, do stick to a healthy plan" To tell you the honest truth, i bet "some" people are exagerating about how healthy they eat. bushbaby, you explained it perfect! I'm feeling better that this may still be an option for me. Now that I hear I'm not going to have to eat lean chicken, veggies for every single meal, it makes me feel better. Leigh

I'm starting to get the feeling that I am not being clear. Bushbaby, I am already doing the diet that is recomended once you are banded, therefore, my life will have no changes. I'm already losing weight slowly, but it sucks because I have to eat super healthy. I just want to eat moderately unhealthy stuff in moderation, just like you said, that was what I was looking for. This way I can still lose and be eating some stuff that taste better than grilled chicken. Is this the case or do you guys always eat healthy? Leigh

Carlaluz and DeLarla Hi, thanks for the reply, By "normal" as I said in my post I meant moderately healthy, like a salad with a serving of ranch dressing. I don't even like "many" high fat foods or junk food. Right now I am eating healthy foods and losing slowly, so I guess maybe this isn't for me because it doesn't sound like anything is going to change about my diet. My hospital is telling me i can not ever eat fries and bread again, this will not work for me. I wanted to do this so that I can add stuff back into my diet, but if I'm already eating healthy, there is no need. I fail with diets because I have to cut things out like ranch dressing, cheese, bread, not hamburgers, ice-cream or chocolate, not any sweets. It's not going to be much of a life change for me, it sounds like I'm already doing it. To me it kind of sounds like everybody struggles with food just as much as they did before the surgery (other posts i read) Also, all this PB stuff, sounds like a disaster, I don't want to live my life worried about throwing up. I was considering this because I'm diabetic, my diabetes is in super control A1C of 5.0, but, one day it might not be, that is why I am considering this. If I sound bitchy its because I had no idea, and I'm upset that this is not going to work out for me. Leigh

I'm new to the forum, so yes, hi and thank you for the welcomes and all of that. I just sent all my info on to the insurance company. Sorry if i ask questions that have been answered before, but I am just now joining. What I really want to know is, will I be able to eat normal foods? My hospital acts like I have to eat lean Protein, fruit and vegetables, and thats it for the rest of my life. If this is the case, I should just stop right now, and now go on with the procedure, if I could do this, then there would be no need for the banding. I understand fully that I have to eat the right foods, but all the time? Will I get to eat McDonalds fries every once and awhile? Since I will be eating such smaller portions, i figure I can still have some luxuries, right? The hospital I am going to says no. I thought that was part of the purpose, we can eat normal (by normal I mean moderate healthy foods) just smaller portions. Am I confused? I realize my weight loss will not be as great with normal food, but I want to lose slow. I'm intrested in lap banding to lose weight by not by cutting out foods, just eating less of them. I, of course, am not talking about the first 3 months, I mean down the road. Please do not respond if you only eat healthy food, or if you are someone who is kidding themselves that you only eat healthy foods. I want to talk to people who eat moderately healthy foods (or unhealthy foods) that are banded, such as a salad with a serving of full fat ranch dressing. Also, I am diabetic, how will the hospital handle my liquid stage? I have to have carbs or I will pass out. Anyone diabetic? What did they do for you during the liquid stage, when carbs are not allowed? Thank you for your help, sorry if I sound harsh. Leigh
