That's a hard question to answer as everyone's taste is different. I did not like Unjury at all...too sweet and I love sweets! Premier Protein is the only one I can drink, still drink one every day.

Nervous! Surgery 2/23
Chele H replied to kcdavidson42's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone different but I had no nausea, no gas pains, etc. My surgery was 7:30am, I spent most of the day sleeping on and off. I had some spasm like feelings in my stomach but by the evening I was up wandering the halls of the hospital. I had incredible nurses who were right on time with my pain and nausea meds(really didn't need them but I took them). Next day had a leak test and was given Water, broth, etc. I was sent home with liquid Tylenol with Codeine which I only used to sleep, no pain. Good luck! -
Girl Scout cookie advice/suggestions
Chele H replied to brennasmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My daughter was a Girl Scout for years, never saw the appeal of the cookies, to me they are no better than a cookie you can buy in the grocery store. Keebler makes cookies similar to the thin mint and samoa and once I saw how little money the troop actually gets from the $4 per box price I never bought another box. -
Every surgeon is different....call your doctor. I was cleared for pills at one month post op yet I see on this forum that many were taking pills the day after surgery in the hospital.

Parents trying to talk me out of VSG.
Chele H replied to Aria622's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
^^^ what she said^^^ Go to a seminar and a support meeting, meet and talk to people who have had the surgery. I went to 3 seminars to see what different surgeons had to say. Ask the surgeon at the seminar about risks, percentages of risks. All surgeries have risks but so does being obese and let's be real, if you are 267 now...where do you think you will be in 5 or 10 years from now? We've all lost and gained hundreds of pounds. The older I got the harder it was to lose the weight without the surgery. This is your decision only you know what is best for you. Best of luck to you! -
Yes it is

If you need NSAIDS really think before deciding. Even if you think you might not ever need NSAIDS. I had shoulder surgery in November and Tylenol barely touched the pain. Although I have the sleeve my surgeon is very conservative about NSAIDS. I only took Advil when the pain was unbearable and I used a Flector patch at the site of the pain. How many people know for a fact they will never need NSAIDS in the future? If you know tue answer to that buy some lottery tickets on the way to the hospital....lol. Good luck with your surgery, which ever one you choose.

Chewable calcium is HORRIBLE
Chele H replied to monopoly2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
FYI....not all chewable calcium are the right kind. Usually the ones you find at Walmart, CVS and costco are calcium carbonate, Tums are calcium carbobate as well. Bariatric patients should take calcium citrate, that is what I was told by my nutritionist and surgeon. The Bariatric Advantage are good. Calcet Creamy Bites are good, they come in lemon and chocolate. You can find them on drugstore.com The cost got to be too much for me so I take calcium citrate pills now. -
I have Aetna, my BMI was just 40 and I had no co-morbities. I did the entire process with the bariatric surgeon's office and his insurance coordinator. They are very knowledgeable of the process. I had to complete a patient history form documented all previous weight loss attempts. I had to have 3 months of consecutive visits with my bariatric surgeon with my weight documented, a nutritionist visit and a psych evaluation. I did not have to show any proof of current weight loss attempts or exercise. I was told not to lose weight because I just squeaked by the required BMI. Each plan is different even within the same insurancs company, it depends on what your employer chooses. Get a copy of your particular plan's requirements in writing.

Gas pain and nausea
Chele H replied to suitechicguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, normal. Gas X helps and walking, even if it is up and down the hallway in your house. Walk several times a day. My largest incision hurt for quite a while. Were you given pain meds? I was given liquid Tylenol w/codeine. Were you given anything for the nausea? If not, call your surgeon. Maybe he can call something in to your pharmacy. No need to feel bad if something can help you. This too shall pass, feel better! -

I believe the calcium chews at Costco are calcium carbonate. Please check the label and correct me if I am wrong because I would love to buy them. I was told only calcium citrate because we can't absorb calcium carbonate as well as calcium citrate.

Dr. Feteiha...right down the road. Dr. Goyal was one of the surgeons I was going to see for a consult but after I met with Dr. Feteiha I was convinced he was for me. My experience at Overlook was fantastic. I had great nurses and patient care techs. Good luck!

I had mine done there....didn't want company and my husband had to go home for the kids anyway. Who is your surgeon?
