I switched soaps from Dove to Dial Gold because I figured it was antibacterial and had a nice, clean scent and helps a little.

My doctor prescibed Prevacid that dissolves under your tongue....maybe you can call your surgeon to see if they can switch your meds.

If your insurance specifically tells you weight loss surgery isn't covered...
Chele H replied to Mel1071's topic in Insurance & Financing
Can you opt in at your job? Some employers allow part time employees to buy medical insurance. Even if you only paid the premium for 6 months to a year it would be cheaper than a self pay. -
I lost exactly 10 pounds, I had 3 Protein drinks per day, broth, sugar free ice pops and lots of Vitamin Water Zero. Then put on 7 pounds from all the IV fluids in the hospital. Lost them since being home though...whew!

Questions for those who had gallbladder surgery post-sleeve
Chele H replied to flmama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For those who had their gallbladder out.....were you on Actigall after the sleeve to try help prevent the gallbladder attacks? -
b So day 5 now, drinking is easier. Ate farina, cream of chicken Soup and 3/4 of a 14 oz Protein drink and 2 sugar free ice pops yesterday Still can only get one dose of Actigall in, supposed to have 2...so full and bloated all day and I need to mix it in applesauce or pudding. Soreness at largest incision definitely improved, hurts less getting up and sitting down and I was able to sleep in my bed and not in the recliner chair. Feel like maybe hit by just a car today and not a Mack truck.

July 22, only 3 days out....NO WAY near 64 oz, although my post op instructions are to "increase my fluids to a goal of 64 oz" I am at maybe 20 oz, I am "full" all the time and then I have to take Carafate, Actigall and Prevacid ....UGH!!! I did manage to suck on a calcium citrate today.

Don't have to do much for approval?
Chele H replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Everyone's insurance is different. Did you actually speak to someone and get the exact requirements? I also believe each surgeon has thier own requirements. I had to have a gallbladder ultrasound and a sleep study but his patients with blood pressure and/or cholesterol issues also need clearance from a cardiologist. Double check EVERYTHING before submission, it will help keep the process running smoothly. -
1 week Post op need to get moving
Chele H replied to moorecr's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My opinion: walking is walking, inside or out. You may have walk around your house a dozen times but it is better than sitting -
I am so sorry to hear you are in such pain. I consider myself BEYOND lucky as I had no gas pain at all. There was a woman across the hall from me in the hospital who was suffering terribly. My patient care technician said to me "God is with you my dear". I had Dilaudid and Toradol for pain with Zofran for nausea in the hospital. Home now, have liquid tylenol with codeine but don't really need it. I have taken some children's meltaway tylenols today. I was fearing the recovery. I hope you feel better and this is a distant memory soon

1 week Post op need to get moving
Chele H replied to moorecr's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just came home last night. I took 3 mini walks outside today....about 2 blocks from my house and then the 2 blocks back. It wasn't easy but I knew I had to do it. I also have a pool table in my finished basement so I walked around it about 10 times while eating a sugar free ice pop...seemed to go down very easily while upright and walking. -
My temp is 99, I just checked

I am 22 hours post op and feel pretty good. The first 12 hours were bad and then out of nowhere I felt better. Walked the halls about 5 times, waiting for my leak test and some ice chips.
-
I'm home.....tired and sore. Just took some liquid tylenol with codeine and a dissolvable prevacid. Hoping to fall asleep soon because there is no sleeping in the hospital.
-
Leak test done, walked the halls about 10 times, sipping water and broth with no pain.
-
Me too!!!!! Woke up at 4:30am because my mind was racing, will need a Valium to sleep tonight.

PreOps....what are you doing to prepare?
Chele H replied to PGee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup...nesting, brought back memories from my pregnancies. My surgery is Monday. Did all the laundry, packed my hospital bag, filled the freezer with easy meals for my husband and son. Bought my vitamins, protein powder, broth, Miralax, stool softeners and Gas-X. Trying to keep my mind occupied and remain calm. -
I have Aetna, surgery is Monday. If you google "Aetna weight loss surgery requirements" you should be able to pull up thier requirements. I believe they wanted a 5 year weight history. BMI of 40 or higher with no co-morbitities, 35 and higher with 2 co-morbitities. I had to do 3 months check in with my surgeon, 2 nutritionist visits and a psych evaluation. After submitting everything the approval process to 4 weeks

MOO....My Opinion Only.......Premier Protein RTD are delicious, tastes like chocolate milk to me meand an 11 oz bottle has 30 grams of protein! unjury unlfavored mixed in broth was undetectable to me, no funky protein taste. The Unjury flavors were a disappointment considering the cost and the Unjury chicken Soup left an oniony or garlicky aftertaste that lingered until I brushed my teeth. I am pre op and I have seen many who say their tastes change after surgery so I hope I like some of them post op.

Not doing the liquid diet
Chele H replied to Ashlee K's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the Premier Protien shakes, they are 160 calories each,30 grams of protien. I have not had more than 3 per day, thought I would need 4 or maybe even 5 but I have been good with only 3. Lots of Water, a sugar free ice pop and a few cups of chicken broth each day. -
HCG....been there, done that...all I lost was $700
-
Have you tried Premier Protein RTD from costco, Sam's or BJ's? I like them, no funky protein taste. I have tried MANY different brands and this one tastes like chocolate milk to me, even my 12 year old son likes it. I did not care for the unjury chicken Soup protein but I mixed the Unjury unflavored into beef broth and there was no funky taste. Good luck.

Not doing the liquid diet
Chele H replied to Ashlee K's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day 4 of a 2 week pre op liquid diet. Up to 5 Protein shakes a day, broth, Vitamin Water Zero, sugar free ice pops, etc. Please believe me when I say it gets easier after day 3. I would not have believed it myself yesterday as I was still miserable and hungry. I had my food funerals in the week leading up to starting the pre op diet. PLEASE do what your doctors says. My Mom's cousin went in for Gastric Bypass and woke up with no surgery because her liver was too big/fatty to do the surgery. Good luck!
