how soon can I eat, sleeved on 2/4
Chele H replied to kitty323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What does your post op instructions say? Every surgeon is different. The post op liquids allow you to heal properly, you do not want to risk a leak by eating to soon. When in doubt, call your doctor. -
Yes....refried Beans are yummy. My plan allowed thin farina, sugar free pudding, natural applesauce, thin mashed potatoes. Did you get a meal plan from your surgeon or nutritionist? Please follow that plan to ensure proper healing.

Chele H replied to *Glitter*In*The*Air*'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did Flinstones Complete with iron chewables for one month and then changed to regular multi vitamins that I swallow.....both my 3 month and 6 month post op lab results were good. -
Seminar in a few days
Chele H replied to Anewlife2live's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every surgeon and insurance company is different. I had no classes to attend. I attended the seminar, 2 nutrtionist appointments, 1 psych appointment, sleep study, gallbladder ultrasound, 3 months consecutive visits with surgeon and medical clearance from PCP. Started in January 2013, approved in June, surgery was 7/22. Good luck on your journey. -

I'm starting to give up on searching just need some answers
Chele H replied to buddaflybeauty23's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Does your suregon have a monthly seminar and support group meeting? I urge you to attend both. Go to the seminars, listen, take notes, think about the overall feeling you have about the surgeon. Most seminars have some of the surgeon's patients there for a question and answer period. I went to four seminars before choosing my surgeon. I did not attend the support group because I felt confident in my decision but it sounds like you would benefit from it. You can meet people and talk about your questions and concerns. Good luck! -
My surgeon told me that protein has 4 calories per gram.....so the Premier Protein at 160 has 30 grams of protein so 120 of the total calories is coming from the protein which makes it an excellence choice.
-
Premier Protein is the best I have tasted, 30 grams of protein, 160 calories, no funky taste.

She was in the hospital for three months on bariatric diet and did not lose one pound! Her husband obviously brought her food. Not only was she on government assistance her family and friends donated money to them to help them move to Texas for the surgery! -

She goes on a bed pan and her husband cleans her! -
I started at 200 lbs, 4'10" I am 6 months post op and have lost 51 pounds. Doctor said I could lose up to 80 pounds with the sleeve, I said I would be happy if I could lose 50 and keep it off. The weight has slowed significantly now at the 6 month mark but it still comes off slowly.

Hairloss! ????????
Chele H replied to beautifulme14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Iron level was low and my hair loss was pretty significant. I started to take an iron supplement in addition to my multi Vitamin and within a month the hairloss slowed down a lot. Have you ahd labs done recently? Might be worth looking into. -
Oven roasted chick peas....google a recipe, very easy to make and satisfies my crunchy, salty snack craving

I was prescribed Prevacid for 30 days post op and I ocassionally still take tbe OTC ones. It may not be too uncomfortable but it can cause damage to your esophagus over time. Call your surgeon, better safe than sorry.

Getting nervous due to all the comments I am hearing
Chele H replied to Buckfever53's topic in The Guys’ Room
That is why I told NO ONE except the immediately family in my home and my mom and sister. And I waited until one week pre op to tell my mom and sister. -
I have Aetna, my BMI was 40 and I used a surgeon at Center of Excellence. I had 2 nutrition visits, one psych visit, a gall bladder ultrasound, a sleep study and 3 months consecutive month visits with my surgeon. I was not required to lose any weight prior to the surgery. I had to complete a detailed intake packet that listed detailed attempts at weight loss in the past and I needed a letter of recommendation from my pcp. Have you checked with Aetna about your specific policy and it's WLS requirements? Not all policies have the same requirements. Your surgeon's office should have an insurance coordinator that will confirm your coverage and the specific requirements too. You may be able to do your weigh ins with your pcp. I started the process in January 2013, approved in June, surgery July 22.....good luck!

I never really had a "soft" stage...after my purees I just made sure my meats were moist and tender and used gravy if I needed to. How about meatballs? Meatloaf? Refried Beans with some cheddar and light sour cream?

Question about co-morbidities?
Chele H replied to webhopper's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
They SHOULD go by your starting weight but I was just barely over a 40 bmi with no co-morbitities and my doctor told me not to lose any weight at all just in case it fell below the 40. You should call and ask specific questions regarding the bmi requirement, get the person's first and last name and a printed copy of their wls requirments. Good luck! -
