Foods in the house for when I come home from surgery?....q
Chele H replied to 630racoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did your doctor give you a diet guideline to follow? Clear Liquids, full liquids, pureed, etc? I had sample menus. Don't "stock up" because you will not be eating much. Protein drinks, broth, creamed Soups, cream of wheat, applesauce, sugar free ice pops, sugar free pudding....that is what I had for the first couple of weeks. -
I order chicken wings off the appetizer menu or a cup of chili, some order shrimp cocktail. A salad will take up too much space in your tummy without providing enough Protein. I didn't tell anyone except family but everyone knows I am dieting and watching carbs so to this point no one has questioned my menu choices. I also eat slowly so I keep the pace with the others a the table.

Nine days after surgery, how to help
Chele H replied to pxinaz's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not to sound snarky but if he "demands" that bring him ice or Water or a Protein drink....what will happen if you don't bring it to him? I would think he would be forced to do things for himself(which of course he should be doing) PLEASE take care of yourself....I don't know you but I do know EVERYONE deserves to be treated with love and respect. YOU deserve that. -
Question for people who have already been sleeved!
Chele H replied to Kquinn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I felt like I had been run over by a truck the first week and yet others were out shopping the next day. If you can push it a week, why risk not feeling up to the wedding and/or not enjoying yourself? I know how much you want the surgery ASAP we all have been there, but one week or even a day or 2 after the wedding won't make the wait any harder -
It is supposed to shrink your liver so it is easier for the surgeon to maneuver around laproscopically.

Low BMI-BCBSNJ ever make exceptions?
Chele H replied to catesdragonfly's topic in Insurance & Financing
Some insurance companies require weight history of at least 2 years of obesity. You should call BCBSNJ and request a written cooy of the EXACT requirements required for WLS. Good luck! -
When will my FUPA go away?
Chele H replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

From what I have been told FUPA is Fat Upper Pubic Area
-
Use an app like pic collage and do a before and after of yourself and then you can really see what others see. I can see the smaller person in the mirror but when I am shopping I always look for the XL and then have to put it back.

All you can eat restaurant
Chele H replied to Madelyne Bonthron's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Some people have said they got a card from their surgeon. I don't have one, I don't go to buffets and at ala carte restaurants I just order an appetizer or take half of a regular entree jome. -
need advice for getting fluids down
Chele H replied to ninan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the first few months I could not force down plain Water. I mixed apple juice about 60/40 with water and it went down very easily. Yes, there are calories and carbs in apple juice but dehydration is no joke and considering how few calories I was eating I felt it was worth it. -
Scared I wont be able to do this
Chele H replied to AliciaRenee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly.....I use no special recipes and don't stress over it. I make dinner for my family and only eat the protien and veggies. If I make spaghetti and meatballs, I only eat the meatballs. chicken, green Beans and potatoes for dinner....I just skip the potatoes. For lunch I usually eat rolled up deli meat, tuna or egg salad or lentil Soup. Breakfast is a Protein drink or greek yogurt. Once you get to solid protein you will feel full on a small amount and if you do not drink to quickly after eating you will stay full for quite a while. You will be fine. -

Try Premier Protien drinks, warm chicken broth sipped from a mug and Vitamin Water Zero for your electrolytes. By day 4 my hunger diminished quite a bit. Good luck!

Clear liquids question
Chele H replied to GingerSlim's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate sugar free ice pops so I would think Rita's should be ok except one thing....have you eaten thier sf ice before? It sends me running to the bathroom from what I assume is the artificial sweetener they use. The sf ice pops don't affect me that way. I would try it pre op first. Good luck with your surgery. -
Need Help
Chele H replied to Dixie Michelle Shepherd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your focus should be on liquids right now so you do not become dehydrated. Vitamin Water Zero or G2 will help with your electrolytes. sugar free ice pops count towards your liquids. My first week I actually used a clock and made myself sip every 5 minutes the first and second day home, every 3 minutes the fourth and fifth day home. Try warm decaf tea or room temperature water. Try sipping chicken broth from a mug. Try different brands of bottled water. Even today at 9 months post op there are some brands of bottled water I can't get down. It will get better every day. -
My surgeon told me that Protein has approx. 4 calories per gram so Premier Protein is 160 calories and 30 grams of protein ....120 calories is from protein which he said was great. I agree that sometimes I taste something slightly metallic I think it may be the Iron. I put mine in the freezer for about 20 minutes before I drink it. I buy Premier at BJ's club, $18 for 12. If you "like" Premier on Facebook you can get coupons.

ANYONE UNDER 200 ON THE DAY OF SURGERY?
Chele H replied to CrisH64's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And of course the weight is falling off on a liqud diet, but a liquid diet is not sustainable long term. After surgery when you are full after a few bites, that is something you can manage long term and the real weight loss will begin. -
ANYONE UNDER 200 ON THE DAY OF SURGERY?
Chele H replied to CrisH64's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sister said the exact same thing to me about not being big enough. I am only 4'10" so at 200lbs I was 100 pounds overweight with a BMI of 40. Don't let others discourage you....you've got this! -
ANYONE UNDER 200 ON THE DAY OF SURGERY?
Chele H replied to CrisH64's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me the hunger seemed to decrease by day 4 of the 2 week pre op diet and it got a lot easier. I drank a lot of Vitamin Water Zero to keep my electrolytes in check. I can't touch the stuff now without gagging because I drank so much but it helped a lot at the time. I started at 200 lbs and lost 10lbs on the pre op diet so I was 190lbs the day of surgery....and came home at 200lbs from all of the fluids. Good luck! -
Could also be a spasm, I had them the first night.
