Is it really that impossible?
NurseGrace replied to NJGurl19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How much weight a patient loses is largely up to the patient. There is an average, meaning, what is typical but you can certainly go above that, or not even reach that average. It just depends how you do. -
Anyone wish they had gastric bypass instead of sleeve?
NurseGrace replied to Girl on the Blvd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
meh, this is a "six of one, half a dozen of the other" type of situation for me. You probably will lose more weight with an RNY, but you are also probably more likely to experience any number of complications at a greater rate as well. -
Please be honest...
NurseGrace replied to patsybrown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh hell yes. -
Honestly if you are doing some kind of box dye its probably going to matter VERY LITTLE. Just do not bleach it at this point. You are probably losing enough hair without doing that too it as well.

Oh man, there has been a change in me. For the first time since I have been old enough to drive and have my own money I am not obsessed with running to buy clearanced easter candy. This week I was able to eat pretty intuitively (not obsessing over limits) and still lose three pounds. This is more than I could have ever wished for.

consider making a formal complaint. It's one thing for a doctor to express their concern that maybe you are not following all the rules, but its a whole other thing to be abusive.

I have zero patients for that type of attitude. First of all, if he had a problem with where you all had dinner the adult thing to do is say something along the lines of "You know what, that sounds really unappealing to me, can we talk about some other choices" Also, this is just a personal hang up but I cannot STAND a person who apparently thinks they are better than the service people they come into contact with. I was a cashier for years while I was in school and its a hard job and you will never please everyone.

Did you have a catheter ?
NurseGrace replied to natedinsmoor2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
most people have one after they are knocked out. I almost felt like I should have had one in place at least for a while the next day because I had a lot of urinary retention from the drugs. -
How did you not lose you jobs?
NurseGrace replied to tamarlarae's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
you are going to have to keep HR in the loop, not that you need to tell them your surgery but you need to be realistic with them about how long you are going to be out of the office and whatnot. Also, if you can schedule for the summer or something that would be ideal. There is no reason to strain your work relationships. -
For the first time I am not obsessed with running to buy half-off easter candy and hiding it from my husband
NurseGrace replied to NurseGrace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is kind of shameful but last easter I ate SO MANY of those little cadbury eggs that they still don't sound appealing, a whole year later. -
Throwing the scale out the window!
NurseGrace replied to kortolano's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep its a bunch if BS but it passes. The first month was bad for me. -
I don't wanna talk about it.
NurseGrace replied to mwrarr's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't talk much at all in the days leading up to my surgery. I was withdrawn, I'm not sure that it mattered. I was getting my mind right. -
It's the Overland Park, Leawood, Olathe, Lenexa area.

Tried on my pre-surgery pants!
NurseGrace replied to whitneymalae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to say it - you are so freaking adorable! Congrats on the pants too, by the way. -
Johnson County here! It seems like there are a lot of people from Kansas around this site.

Was able to eat 2 hard shell tacos today... Is that considered a lot?
NurseGrace replied to mikeross's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
those type of tacos can be heavy on the sour cream which makes them ultra soft once chewed up well so no, I don't really raise an eyebrow at that. if it were a good sized steak or something it might be different. Watch out for those slider foods. -
IF YOU HAVE NOTHING NICE TO SAY...THEN DON'T SAY IT.

I tend to read things very literally over the threads unless there is some kind of huge red flag that it is sarcasm and that has caused some issues for me here. IMO, sarcasm doesn't translate well in this setting and should be avoided but thats just me and I have my own biases. Sometimes I do question people though because I'm not really here to hold hands and tell someone everything is going to be OK when they are really making every huge mistake in the book. I don't think validating people like that is really a good move, but after much headbutting I have learned to just pass those threads over. I'd rather give it zero attention then say something that blows it up to 12 pages of back and forth nastiness. I think more and more I am finding myself saving my time for people asking real questions on legitimate topics not "omgeee I hate 4 cheeseburgers tell me everything is fine" (not that it happens like that but you get my point) -
How often do you weigh yourself
NurseGrace replied to Joe I's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once or twice a week depending on how things are going. Sometimes I like the progress report mid-week, especially if I feel like I need a wake-up call. -
Is It Just Me...
NurseGrace replied to AmandaRaeLeo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I notice it more. -
need some hope and encouragment please
NurseGrace replied to tinydancer's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It sounds as though you may be beating yourself up over non-issues. You said that you feel like you could have lost 50 pounds on any diet by now and guess what....? You could have. We ALL could have, and most of us have, more than once and for whatever the reasons it doesn't stick, and we continue to do what we do and gain it back plus some. The reason we got surgery is to jump off that crazy train and do something more permanent Permanent doesn't mean quick and easy though, unfortunately. Sometimes I wonder about what goes on or what gets said pre-op to people because I knew right from the get-go that regular food would be back on the menu at some point. The fact is that we can eat most things so we have to be careful. On a regular basis your diet should not consist of soft (mash it with a fork) type of stuff. You also shouldn't be having meats that are swimming in sauces, broths, gravies or cheese either. All of these things cause you to be able to consume more than is ideal for someone like us. If you are in a rut I suggest getting a costco membership or something like that - go shop somewhere different and look at other options besides whatever you've been having. -
Throwing the scale out the window!
NurseGrace replied to kortolano's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was being to general, what I should have said was that its unhelpful in terms of really helpful information. If it's a motivating factor then that is totally different. salt has such a huge effect one way or another on the scale for so many women that it scews things. Just because you had something salty doesnt mean you actually gained weight, but thats what it will look like. -
Oh yeah, its possible. I feel for the woman. I wish she would stop talking about it though because I feel like she is embarrassing herself, but that might be unfair of me to say. When you are clearly heavier and talking about how you lost this or that.... it strikes me as sad. BUT (disclaimer) I did not see this spot you are talking about so I didn't see for myself what you are talking about.
