gained a few lbs during 6 months of monitored visits
NurseGrace replied to dreamonique's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For some it does not matter, its just hoop jumping, for some its very critical that you do not gain weight. The reason is that they feel as though if you are taking a monitored diet seriously in preparation for major permanent surgery, you will NOT be gaining weight unless there are undiscovered health issues (which, obviously equals denial) If you are gaining there is a great possibility that you are not in the right state of mind currently. This will work for you when you want it as bad as you want to breath. (yes, I'm quoting Eric Thomas again, but its true) -
I think, that at least for a woman, to get much heavier than about 250 there have GOT to be some addition issues involved. Men are a little different.

Get botox while I'm in mexico for sleeve surgery?
NurseGrace replied to Olivia23's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Botox is FUN. I wouldn't pair it with major surgery though. -
Thats because there is no good answer. That is completely up to you, your surgeon, and what you are comfortable with while still maintaining consistent losses. I know I eat more carbs than recommended but I am steady losing pounds so I don't stress over it too much.

Desperately seeking advice
NurseGrace replied to canadianchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
at this point you should be getting your protein from food. protein supplements should be rare, you are too far along for that. You didn't give us any idea of what you are eating day to day so its kind of hard to say but I would imagine if you are not getting your protein in that you are probably filling your stomach with other things that should be secondary to protein. -

Endonscopy gone wrong
NurseGrace replied to NeverBeTheSameAgain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
intubation? have you ever seen it? It's not easy, gentle or "safe". I have to chuckel with people ask something like that, and there are people all in this forum talking about calling lawyers and reporting them like they did something wrong. intubation is not gentle, people of normal size get teeth knocked out, cuts, soft tissue injuries even with the BEST anesthesiology professionals. Add in additional factors like being OVER 500 pounds and its just something you risk. That's why surgery on big people is risky. -
Endonscopy gone wrong
NurseGrace replied to NeverBeTheSameAgain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For what exactly? It's a known risk of the procedure that you sign consent for. -
Endonscopy gone wrong
NurseGrace replied to NeverBeTheSameAgain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is typical, and a risk of the procedure. because of your weight you have soft tissue encroaching on your airway, shortening your neck and it puts you at a much higher risk for needing a tracheotomy and other things that no one will want to do to a 500+ pound person due to the risk of total respiratory collapse. They just don't have enough space to work with. They may talk to you about a more long term liquid diet and try again when you loose about 70-100 pounds. You could probably do that with a few months of Optifast. -
Post Before and After Pics I want to See Results!
NurseGrace replied to Adahlia's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
you look about 12 or 13 years younger. Good for you. -
Sometimes I break a stall with a high calorie day. I usually stay in the 800 calorie ballpark, and once a week or so I let loose up to about 1300 calories. Seems to keep the stalls away.

This will more than likely not have an effect on your surgery but you need to get a grip, like... NOW. The last few days before surgery are very important to do as you are told for your own safety.

i've had half of one. Don't make it a habit.

There have been a lot of regret posts lately, use the search bar and have at it.

I cannot believe what I'm doing...don't I get it?
NurseGrace replied to AdiosPlusSizes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ah, more proof that the good old "I bet you didn't pay for this surgery yourself" argument is bull. Look, this happens, it will happen in the future too, you need to get a grip on yourself though. This WILL NOT be the last time you make a bad choice, but you need to get real about it. If you consistently make bad choices, you cheat yourself. The thing is, what matters more are the day to day choices, not the every once in a while cheats. I cheat almost once a week, but what I do consistently is more or less the right thing. I don't carry my guidelines around in my bag or anything but I do count my calories and watch the carbs/protein ratio and I suggest you do the same. -
I am now a master farter!
NurseGrace replied to AussieLady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lmao, this is a five star topic. Ironically, I seem to fart a lot less now, but I burp more. -
Really need advice..
NurseGrace replied to BrittNicole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This might be somewhat unpopular but just know that I am saying this as someone who was in your shoes (I had the lapband before I had the sleeve) You might want to hold off on weight loss surgery. Just weight 6 months or so, because it sounds like your not ready. Of course, this is just my impression based off only the little bit of information you provided but let me tell you something. You will have success with weight loss surgery when you want it as bad as you want to breath. When you want it so bad that whether or not you 'want' some soda is totally irrelevant because you are on a mission, THEN you are ready. -
side-eyeing my scale today... 18lbs in one week?
NurseGrace replied to makemyownluck's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
meh, for someone 400+ pounds it's possible. -
Prepare yourself. When its all over you will feel like you've been through war, but you will make it. Get ready though. It's harder psychologically and sometimes physically than it is academically. No one cares about your tears, no one cares about your divorces, deaths in the family, or ANYTHING about you. It's cut throat. Show up every day, do the assigned reading and study and you will make it but you have to SHOW UP.

My wife is pissed!
NurseGrace replied to O.T.R. sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Came here to say this. Give her one or two of them, make her keep them with her clothes and they are hers now, not yours, so don't even think about putting them back on lol. -
I allow coffee in my regular diet but I do account for anything with calories I put into it. If I drink 200 calories worth of creamer thats 200 calories I don't eat. Be careful with that, because coffee additions alone can be enough to halt weight loss if you are not paying attention. Three weeks isn't a crazy long period of time, so you should be able to get back in the saddle without too much upheaval. Hell, right after surgery I had a three week-long stall. We were sleeved about the same time. You'll get there, just put a stop to this before it goes too far.

I think that a lot of times, dispite the hoops most of us have to jump through to get weight loss surgery, its not a well thought out decision. I see people here every day who I would not clear for surgery if I were in charge of their psych evals. BUT, you can't blame the facility because people lie. They put on a different face while they are in the office, so who knows.

help! wedding! alcohol!
NurseGrace replied to njgrl22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would suggest you consider skipping alcohol all together or get something like a vodka and cran with lime.
