NurseGrace replied to Iweeny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me day 6 is still full liquids so like.... cream of whatever soup... I can't think of anything but you can certainly google "list of full liquids" or something like that -
my dr said whenever I feel up to it. I would imagine pretty soon after if you went on top and told him NOT to hump like an animal

103 pounds lost... Before an after picture
NurseGrace replied to mggonzal's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You hardly look like the same person. I want to thank you for posting this because I am having surgery today and stuff like this is what keeps me going. -
I am mourning the loss of target popcorn.
-
Hmmmm. I would be extremely cautious. There is nothing in my guidelines about popcorn but here is what I would do. I would break two rules because I would have something to drink with that. I would have ONE piece, chew it into oblivion, drink. My sleeve is tomorrow so I cant say much but when I had a lapband I could tell from the first bite if it was going to go down OK or not.

NurseGrace replied to Lisa'slosinit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugh, that probably wasnt the best thing for me to go look at 36 hours before surgery. As if I were not nervous already lol. It was cool to see though. -
Hellish Bowel Prep Tomorrow
NurseGrace replied to NurseGrace's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BAHAHAHA STORY TIME So I was a first year nursing student on my rotation in the operating room. Fine, I'm not a weakling and I have seen my share of gore. Anyway, so I'm watching this colonoscopy and all is going well. We send this patient off to recovery without incident and I'm standing around waiting for the next patient, an EGD. Goody. I'm standing in the back trying to stay out of the way because there is really nothing I can do to help because I'm a first year. Anyway, I don't see them take away the old scope for the colonoscopy, which, happens to look exactly like the scope they use for an EGD. My eyes nearly bulged out of my head from behind my mask and surgical bonnet. The only time in my life I very seriously thought I was going to faint. One of the techs saw me and filled me in that it was not the same one, thank god. My head was about to explode. -
So basically it goes like this: 1. take four Dulcolax 2. one hour later - entire 8.3 oz bottle of Mira-lax in 64 oz of Fluid 3. two hours later - four MORE Ducolax (That's the entire box, in case any one is wondering lol) Has anyone done something similar to that? This is not only going to have me chained to the bathroom but how does this not make people throw up also? Advice? Surgery is Tuesday.

Hellish Bowel Prep Tomorrow
NurseGrace replied to NurseGrace's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will consider all those things except I cannot have prune juice because I get a JP drain for a week. He said it could be mistaken for blood if there should be a problem. lmao this is TMI but I also made sure I was stocked up on Baby Wipes... Sounds like I might need them. -
Hellish Bowel Prep Tomorrow

Now that you say that, he did say something about constipation and the bowel prep. I think it had something to do with getting cleared out so the pain meds wouldnt be so constipating. Dont forget, its 8 pills AND a HUGE container of mira-lax lol fml -

I didn't ask, honestly. I think its standard for my office. -
YES! I forgot there is also a chewable that is not a gummy if you prefer that called OptiSource that you can get at walgreens. I think its orange flavored. I haven't tried it first hand but it is marketed at a bariatric vitamin so I'm sure its also fine.

Alcohol and 2 weeks post op!
NurseGrace replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's best to talk to your own doctor about it, but I am interested in hearing the results. You can call it whatever you like, but the bottom line is still that I am not sure what you are looking for here. Outside of the troll who is probably must here to mess with everyone, not just you, no one has been mean to you and I'm getting tired of people running around with their hair on fire every time someone on here gives good, solid advice, which is that drinking at this stage is at BEST ill advised. I am very careful to not be mean to anyone so this type of thing is really old. If we can't be adults and conversant without "omg people you are soooo mean no wonder blah blah blah" the internet is not the place for you. -

That's quite worrisome Is it in any of your handouts or patient guidelines? Most places give patients a binder of rules. For me the rules were on their website in the form of PDFs for us to print as we saw fit. I got them all and put them in a binder. If you were not given specific guidelines I'd be happy to e-mail you a copy of mine if you are interested. -

It's only a troll here to be a pain. This is more than likely a member who has already posted on this forum under their real name and wants to tell someone how they really feel or its someone who knows one the patients here personally. Either way it's silly. -

A lot of us have maintained abusive, unhealthy or otherwise subpar relationships in our obesity. Shed the weight and shed the people who don't add anything to your life. -
I was too low on carbs and calories!

carb needs are SOOOO dependent on what kind of lifestyle you have. -
Eyesight changed immediately after surgery

Before you run off and spend a bunch on new glasses consider that your medication may be contributing to this. -
I go to costco and I purchase vitafusion multivites (the gummy kind) they sell them at target as well but at costco you can get a very large container for about the same money, maybe two dollars more and I also purchase the kirkland sugar free Calcium chews with added D and K. The all together these items are about 20 dollars and should last about two months. For me, costco is worth it because purchasing these at Target or walmart actually ends up being more expensive. Kirkland is brand spefic to costco but you can get vitafusion at target for sure. The vitafusion does have three grams of sugar per two chews but for me this is within what I am willing to accept to have a Vitamin that I can get down easily every single day. I have purchased more specialized bariatric Vitamins in the past and they have been a chore to take, and I always end up slacking on that till next thing I know its been two months and I haven't taken my vitamins. I look forward to these - they taste good. Also as far as gummies go, some say they are not good enough, some say they are fine. I don't know. My surgeon basically seemed to be of the opinion that they are fine, but if lab work comes back funny we can deal with it differently. I appreciated not being sold a product though.

Help! I'm getting scared.

Yes I would call. If there is one piece of advice I could give you when I consider this post is that you should keep your doctor fully in the loop. -
Alcohol and 2 weeks post op!
NurseGrace replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a serious question though, I really doubt anyone has said anything here that you didn't already know. We've educated ourselves and we've all been warned about the risks of bleeds and ulceration... So it leaves me questioning... What is the point of all this? I'm not one to exagerate and act as though you're failing, neglecting yourself, abusing yourself or any of those things but I really wonder what you are looking for when you make a post like this? I realize we are all here for support, but its not as though you are asking this in the spirit of "Is this OK or not" You just threw it out there and defended it when people scratch their heads. I ask this sincerely, because "whats the big deal" is painfully obvious, and if its not, you should have never been a candidate for this surgery. I do not understand why people go through the trauma of a surgery like this, make choices that are so blatantly poor, turn around and make a post like this and get upset when no one is really going to hold your hand and walk you through it. I'm not saying you don't have a right to post here on this site but I for one am tired of posts like these and posts like "can I haz cheezeburger?" clogging up the new topics lists instead of people who are actually serious about making changes in their lives. -
Alcohol and 2 weeks post op!
NurseGrace replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you do not understand why this is not a good idea at this point, I question what sort of preop guidance you were given. That being said we all have to live with our own choices, if you are drinking two weeks out and are not bothered by that who am I to judge? It's not what I want for myself though. -
As a nurse, and more specifically a mental health nurse, you should know that all things said here are general, could apply to just about any carefully selected section of the population and moreover, throwing studys around on the forms as though they directly relate to spefic people as to say "LOOK HERE, LOOK WHAT THIS CAREFULLY SELECTED PARAGRAPH IN THIS LONG STUDY SAYS, LOOK! SEE, YOURE PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE AND IMMATURE" is a bastardization of my profession.

I'll just step up and say that I have used the "N word" *eye rolls because to my generation that means something TOTALLY different* and I won't be doing it anymore - Apologoes to those who are offended. In the generation I grew up in, that is an acceptable use of the word and it's widely understood that it has nothing to do with Jews, War, Germany, Germans and whatever else people associate it with. I had never taken it into consideration that it's actually sort of poor taste to throw it around and won't be doing it any longer. On a more positive and serious note, would it be possible for users to have some kind of across the board (meaning something that we all self identify) tag next to our user names on our posts that state whether our philosophies are BY THE BOOK, MODERATE, LOOSE or whatever so that people can take that into consideration when we say things and its just automatic? I notice that SO MUCH of the bickering and back and forth on this site really isn't because people are mean spirited, silly, or really even TRYING to attack anyone, but we have different ideas about how closely we follow the guidelines. That could be useful because if I ask for advice or support and someone knows that I AM following the rules they can take that into consideration when dealing with me, they can be more judicious about who/what topics they post on, and everyone can have a sense for WHERE people are coming from.
