Support help, some members found out =(
NurseGrace replied to smallbird's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
People like this are people you really don't need in your life, honestly. Family is family and whatever but honestly, I don't have much to do with my extended family because they are backwards unsophisticated pricks that think they are something else because their children are high achievers. Because of these people I grew up with an inferiority complex that I am SURE had something to do with me developing the unhealthy relationship with food that I did. Go your own way, walk your own path. Don't worry about them. Let them think you had a lapband, let them think whatever they want about you. Live you own life, learn to be happy. -
Do you ever regret your surgery?
NurseGrace replied to Strangefruit's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are right, with everything that you are doing ANYONE would lose weight but dont lose sight of the fact that we have all tried doing that stuff a million times and it never sticks. The reason for surgery is because it addresses how much you eat LONG TERM. -
HELP! I need a good excuse!
NurseGrace replied to conshy416's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
in a few weeks you will be just fine and probably regret saying no. Honestly, I am two weeks out today and feel totally back to normal and have felt like this since about day 10. Of course if you are not comfortable with that then do what you want but if you really want to know what I think I say you will be FINE. I am in no discomfort, I am on soft foods, my incisions are closed and I am not sore at all. Haven't needed pain meds since about day 4 -
based off my experience if I had a desk job where I didn't have to move around a lot I would take one week off, including the weekend obviously, and if I had a physical job I would take two.

I had a lapband before I had the sleeve and really, I cannot recommend it to anyone with a clear conscious You have to educate yourself about the facts. Did you know the Lap Band's success rate isn't any better than people who do weight watchers? I don't say that to bash the band but speaking from experience I can tell you that healthy foods were hard to eat. Bad foods were easy. I was throwing up nearly daily with the band..... I am two weeks out from sleeve surgery and I can already tell its a completely different beast. I do not find the sleeve to be as punishing, I have not thrown up a single time, I can tell that when my diet progresses more I will be able to eat the healthy foods I want to eat without fear that I will be in the bathroom projectile vomiting.

stay away from the ice chips - they made me SO nauseous and so when I got home I was scared to drink - well it turns out that warm stuff was totally fine but the ice made me feel sick.

I know that when I eat an egg, like a scrambled egg it seems to stay with me longer.

research non-hormonal birth control like a paraguard IUD. It's as effective as sterilization and it can last up to 10 years however you can have it taken out sooner than that. They will not increase your risk of cancer, or embolism and you do not have to mess with anything every day or at every act of intercourse. It's awesome.

Frustrated by the NUTs hard sells
NurseGrace replied to sheetmetalgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is nothing wrong with our absorption so if you are planning meals carefully you should be able to get everything you need from a basic supplement, a calcium supplement, and a balanced diet. -
Eating With People Who Don't Know About My Sleeve
NurseGrace replied to alw1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I were trying to hide it I would order something like a soup. -
I am afraid i will back out
NurseGrace replied to michelle38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was scared too. Walking into the hospital the day of my surgery I nearly turned around and left. I just kept telling myself "I'm scared to do this BUT I'm scared NOT to do this, I need this" Everything turned out great and I am off to a fairly good start. -
What good post sleeve habits are you starting pre sleeve?
NurseGrace replied to Phoenix79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a lot of really general yet critical (in my opinion) stuff I stopped eating all processed sugar. no soda, no Cookies, that kind of crap stopped. I stopped drinking all soda. I started really paying attention to what a true serving is, and YES that means pulling out the good old digital kitchen scale. -
How likely is it to gain weight after?
NurseGrace replied to Harpo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You absolutely right. There was a lot to that story, thats just my impression based on the information provided. I should have stated that in the first place. -
So I was at costco today and I purchased this running jacket knowing full well that at an XL it was NOT going to fit me. Well I got it home and decided to try it on for kicks. It was not AS TIGHT as I expected it to be. Still need to lose about 10 pounds for it to be comfortable but still.... very exciting.

Stomach bug and soda
NurseGrace replied to kpaige77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know a ton about it except that when I was a pharmacy tech we sold it and people bought it for tummy troubles. Sorry I cant be more helpful than that. -
Stomach bug and soda
NurseGrace replied to kpaige77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
pharmacies sell it in tiny little bottles, it has all the stuff that makes your tummy feel better minus the carbonated Water -

Go to the pharmacy and buy cola syrup. -
It's pretty unpleasant, but it can be avoided if you take your small bites, don't try to eat more than you should and avoid bread. You'll learn what things set you off. I haven't had that experience of sliming since the sleeve surgery but with the lapband I always KNEW with the first bite of something if it was going to happen or not.

I attack dry skin in three ways - as much Fluid as I can get it - use a humidifier - body oil
-
its a feeling that I think is more common with lapband but you start to feel like you are going to throw up, and for some reason your saliva glands go into hyper-drive and you'll want to throw up. You'll know it if you feel it.

For me, the cost of a gym membership only hurts when I am not using it the way I should. If I am paying whatever amount of dollars (usually not more than 40 dollars a month for the 24 hour fitness SuperSport - the best gym in my area) if I am using it - I don't care one bit.

The same way you will be eating many things that are not necessarily the tastiest thing from now on. You have to find ways to cope. You are eating for different reasons now. sugar will not aide you in your journey to lose weight. I am not one of these people who are going to tell you that you are going down a terrible path or whatever if you have some flavored yogurt but do consider this - if you cant stick to the rules now as far as sugar goes how are things going to go for you later on?
-
nope. Plain is plain as plain, meaning the unflavored stuff. the fat free whatever is still not going to be the ideal choice because of the sugar, not the fat.

Post-Op Diet. I am 6 days out and I am starving. What can I eat?
NurseGrace replied to rxkid2384's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
at 6 days out I am curious to know if what you are experiencing is really hunger or if you have experiencing head hunger but none the less I believe you should stick to you guidelines as best you can. I found chicken stock to be a really awesome meal. For whatever reason it really satisfied me.
