  1. yeah my hospital room was SO loud. the pumps were loud, the bed made noises because it was one of those fancy ones that inflated and deflated randomly to take pressure off your back and stuff, the IV pumps made noise.... I still got plenty of sleep because I was on a morphine PCA but ear plugs might have been nice.
  2. I'm on youtube a lot so if I run across him I will let you know.

    Black tongue

yep oral iron will also make your tongue black. I have had a problem with a coating on my tongue but its from the low carb diet. my tongue scraper and tongue brush have been my friend since the preop diet started.
  4. So I haven't really lost enough weight for a ton of my clothes to be way too large yet but I do have a few things that are too big and a ton of things that are not very flattering. REALLY enjoying getting rid of things and making space. Does anyone have a favorite charity they like to donate too?

    Here I am FINALLY!

I found that hot packs on my shoulders were extremely comforting on my shoulders for the gas pain, nothing else really helped.
  9. Source: Delicious No Carb -High Protein Pizza Blogging this to remember it - I am a pizza fiend.
  10. Maybe you dont feel that way, and I'm not here to have some kind of beef but as laura said, the way that was written it was implied so heavily its hard not to take it as meaning that, and its constantly stated in more plain terms all over this site that those of us who don't share with anyone and everyone are somehow less confident, lying, etc. The fact is that me, having gone though weight loss surgery once before and experienced what it can be like long term (even before I started failing) have experienced all kinds of things that would make me not want to really share. You may grow to regret the day you told everyone in your life (If you did, that is a general statement I know) and I can't help but be more careful now, knowing what I know.

    Birth control?!

thats one of my worst fears, but statistically that is FAR less likely to happen with the paragard than it is with other forms of birth control. I do not have a problem with abortion though and if I became pregnant at this point that is EXACTLY what I would do.
  12. Meh, thats fairly predictable. To be the devils advocate and to be fair to anyone who doesnt know anything about surgery in Mexico it would be extremely worrying. All we ever here are things like those awful back alley Mexican botched plastic surgery jobs. That being said, if they are willing you can provide them with some information to let them know that actually surgery in mexico can be extremely above board and safe.

  14. AH ! Here is what I was really looking for http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/index.php/dr-oz-and-green-coffee-beans-more-weight-loss-pseudoscience/
  15. Don't throw your money away, Oz is a known quack and there are many petitions going around trying to call him on it. He endorses (whether he wants to call it that or not, thats exactly what he does when he gives it so much play on TV) a lot of unscientific unproven junk products that the rest of the medical community laughs at. Here is a good artical to start with if you are interested in learning a little more about the real reputation of Dr. Oz. http://doubtfulnews.com/2012/10/academics-call-out-dr-oz-as-misleading/
  16. Not to be confrontational but let me maybe share with you why I relate to people who don't want to tell people about their surgery. A few years ago I had a lapband, I told everyone, because I had that same mentality that you seem to have, might as well be honest right? Everyone knew. Well, I started having extremely serious problems with the band and eventually gained all the weight back. EVERYONE KNEW. It was embarrassing and I learned a lot from it, but everyone watched me cut myself open, do all that to myself, suffer so much, only to have a very obvious failure. This time around I am NOT doing that to myself again. I am a little more stealthy than some, and I dont need to come online usually to ask strangers how to help me hide things because I can manage on my own just fine, but I understand them. If you had experienced public humiliation like that you might understand a little better why some people just will not share this information with people who are not our close confidants. There's also something to be said for not over-sharing Over-sharing is so common these days with the facebook mentality that everyone has. Wanting a little privacy is OK, and I think its a healthy thing to maintain some privacy.
  17. eeek I worry about this logic. I understand why you are asking but honestly, you might just consider soup because think about this - if you do this, order some fish with the mindset that you are trying to eat a larger portion than normal, and you get sick and end up in the bathroom for an extended period of time that will be SO MUCH WORSE.

    Starving !

Don't feel weird about the Protein Shakes, I was like that too. They would make me feel so freaking BAD. I have found that I can drink the prepared ready to drink protein and be just fine, but that is more expensive. I gotta do what I gotta do though.
  19. One of the office I go to will not touch you if you have not lost weight. You will be sent away. The place where I ultimately ended up having surgery (had nothing to do with weight gain or loss, I left for other reasons) puts you on a strict preop diet and they do expect you to lose weight. I don't know if they would turn you away or not but you are only putting yourself at risk.

    Gastric "blow-out"

Wow, this is probably my worst nightmare. So sorry that it happened to you. Was the hole in your stomach on the staple line?

    Cost of post op diet?

Honestly, if you don't get suckered into purchasing a ton of BS bariatric products you won't be spending a ton of money at all. I know a lot of people have different opinions on what types of Vitamins are best but honestly, you can go to costco and get a huge container of 250 MultiVites that taste good, and a container of sugar free Calcium chews for about 20 dollars with tax. As for food, you can go different routes, but either way you should end up saving money more than likely. You can spend slightly less than you used to and start buying everything organic and whatever or you can shop for regular healthy food and spend WAY less. The main thing is to learn to not waste food though. You will cook too much multiple times before you learn you can't go through stuff as fast as you used too. As you can tell I am a Costco devotee because I like having a bunch of healthy stuff like my Protein shakes sitting around the house because if I have a bunch I will drink them like I should because I don't have that feeling of scarcity. Since we shop at costco (my husband and I - we have no children) we do spend more in one trip than a lot of people might but it lasts a good two weeks or so. This trip we got bottled Water x2, some of the Kirkland frozen cheese pizzas (I know, but they are good, cheap, and you can add you own healthy toppings and eat a tiny amount) and those come in a 4 pack for 10 dollars, Protein Shakes, another bottle of vitamins, some organic frozen burritos that my husband takes to work with him, some Soups for me, and I got an article of clothing for 25 dollars and our total was like... 116 dollars.
