I cheated on my pre-op liquid diet
NurseGrace replied to newme31's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It happens, it happens it happens! recognize what promoted that in you and try to avoid it next time. There will be slip ups before surgery, there will be slip ups AFTER surgery. What matters is what you do every single day, not the occasional F up. -
In many families, circles, and cultures it is considered very low class to share this type of personal information. It's impossible to have blanket statements like "oh this is lying" or "lying by omission or flat out calling people insecure and dishonest. In the culture I was raised in, it's very much frowned upon, and extremely low brow to tell people you personal business. Now I'm not saying everyone who tells people are low class but what I am saying is that this entire conversation rings of silliness. If you feel inauthentic if you do not tell every person you come across, then fine, by all means, tell them. But do not apply this logic to everyone.

this is why I kept it to myself, people have crazy expectations once they know you have done something like this.

Omg Bowel Prep is the suck!
NurseGrace replied to maharet111's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
no kidding. I felt like I needed a bidet after the bowel prep because I was in there ALL NIGHT and things were getting a little raw if you know what I mean lol -
yeah I'm not even so upset about the scale as I am about just generally feeling so crappy. I had been feeling GREAT up until about two days ago. I had not once been nauseated except for right out of surgery so I dont know if this is a touch of the flu or what. My husband wasn't feeling well yesterday either.

I had surgery 20 days ago so I havent been post op very long, but I can tell you that I have not felt hunger yet.

YEP. I slept in a chair for about 9 days. it was the most comfortable thing for me. I didn't have a recliner but I had this large leather chair and a foot rest. Good enough, so thats what I tell people to do. A recliner would have been even better though

I am unbelievably cranky today. I fell asleep nauseated (not sure why) and it seems to have put me in a FUNK lol.

Should You Eat High-Protein Products?
NurseGrace replied to delta_girl's topic in Food and Nutrition
There are different schools of thought on this. My doctor does not really push for protein supplementation forever unless you want to be a body builder, however we are supposed to be doing protein first. I think that if you have an eye toward protein from actual real food sources, it naturally lets your calories and carb issues fall into place a little more simply. So I do pay attention to it. -
that is perfectly acceptable! You don't have to tell anyone!

I had fatigue for about the first 7 days, then I felt fantastic, but I will say today at day 20 I'm not eating a lot and I'm not on liquids anymore and I'm dealing with being tired again. Should probably up my protein.

I was told to wait for 6 weeks but I can't really eat nuts in moderation so I can't buy them. They are healthy usually but they do have fat content and I don't leave them alone. I also feel like they might be something that slide down too easily.

Extremely fatigued today. I slept 8 hours last night and fell asleep for another 4 hours this afternoon.

some is OK, I would limit it to a few ounces though... sugar content and all.

unsupported spouse
NurseGrace replied to mrs red koolaide08's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Its you choice in the end, however its important to consider your husband's feelings. I wish you would have expounded a little bit more then you said he was controlling. Is he controlling in all aspects, or just this? My husband was not thrilled for this either, he came around but I put off this surgery twice on his account because relationships are give and take, and I wanted him to be informed and comfortable. -
I started taking chewable gummies at day 5.

NurseGrace replied to Sadlers1999's topic in Fitness & Exercise

So now that I had surgery 17 days ago and cannot physically feel hunger its really forced me to take a second look at where my other ques to eat are coming from, because believe me, I still think about eating. I know that this is a leftover remnant of bad habits I picked up in nursing school but I realized today that I have a tendency to want to graze/binge/stuff myself when I am sleep deprived, which is often because I have issues with sleep. I used to be in class all day, come home and study for an ungodly amount of hours, fall asleep over my books, wake up and repeat for two years. I used to eat copious amounts of sugar and consume insane amounts of caffeine to stay alert because I was on the road a lot and I had a lot of things that demanded my attention. So now I have this weird instinct to want to eat when I am tired instead of wanting to go lay down and get some rest. I am going to have to work on getting my signals uncrossed. Does anyone else deal with this? I know that its common to think you are hungry when you are actually thirsty as well but I don't deal with that as much as the whole sleep issue.

the longer you go without that, the easier it becomes. IF YOU MUST, please at least let it get flat.

So I am a night owl. It's about 9pm here in Kansas but I just woke up. Anyway, so I was making my 'morning' coffee and measuring out my coffee creamer as usual (I know I'm weird but I get crazy with that stuff if I'm not careful) ANYWAY, I noticed something very interesting. my go to coffee cup has a mark on the inside at the two tablespoon level. Intriguing, so I pulled out some of my other to go cups and they all have a faint line at the 2 tablespoon level. Is that on purpose or some kind of weird fluke? Maybe some kind of one ounce mark is just standard for travel cups?

Day 4 not enough to keep alive
NurseGrace replied to fatGreek's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You need to relax. You just had surgery. You are not going to starve to death, I promise you are OK. Keep sipping. It gets better every day. One good tip I can give you is to have everything warm. When I was fresh out of surgery I could do twice as much warm fluid as I could cold stuff. -
Realization - Eating Habits
NurseGrace replied to NurseGrace's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think part of it is because it feels really strange to get up in the evening and eat a Breakfast meal and carry on with normal meals throughout the night as one would if it were day time. I don't know why. It's like.... I invert my sleep just fine (usually), but inverting my meals feels weird. I still eat like I would had I been up all day and then decided to stay up all night even though I am on a different schedule and HAVE NOT BEEN UP ALL DAY.
