A pediatric oncologist. Not so useful as I haven't taken care of adults in 15 years.

If you have food addiction issues, I think I would follow the advice of your therapist to make sure you're not setting yourself up for failure.

That is a quite interesting question. I'm a physician and would join in a second. Unfortunately I am a bit sub-specialized and most likely not so useful. I nearly joined after med school, but was a smidge over the body fat limit. I guess I will just continue to support the wounded veterans groups.

On you, it really works well.... Some other guys...not so much. Agree with the comments about the comb over.....and even worse is the bald/mullet ugh

I put canned chicken and tuna in a food chopper. It makes it goes down much easier.

Relationship issues after surgery?
JennCH replied to Dreamingofhealth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad to hear the good and the bad. My husband is 5 foot 6 and 350. I lost about 20# before surgery and even though he was supportive, he asked me why I just didn't keep doing what I was doing since I lost the weight. I explained the yo-yo for the last 25 years. He said he was going to try and lose weight and has been walking, but his eating is still awful but he won't listen to gentle suggestions. I'll admit that in the last 2 months, I've gained tons of confidence and have kinda come to resent his lack of wanting to be healthier. I think it is all me, but I guess I've kinda become selfish because I am seeing that there is a lot more to life than I had when I was fat. -
Glad to hear others are in the same boat.

Has anyone in the over 40 crowd noticed their libido increasing significantly as they lose weight? Weird question I know, but I am interested because it seems like a lot of things are changing as I lose weight.

Alternative to Protein Shake?
JennCH replied to kimikat3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am right there with you. I never thought I would be tired of shakes, but I am so tired of sweet I can't stand it. I have taken to the unjury chicken soup. I need to try the unflavored in koolaid again and try that. Seems more palatable that way. -
I've had severe GERD for 20 years (way before I was fat). I was quite concerned about it with the sleeve and almost went with the RNY. I am now 6 weeks out and am on 1/2 the prilosec I used to take and have had zero problems even when I've forgotten to take it. I've been pleasantly surprised and tell you to not let it scare you off. My doc told me that the big incision was harder than the others because there was a stitch through the muscle wall that the other incisions didn't require

How bad is the end result of magnesium citrate?
JennCH replied to mactrio's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree with good reading material, good toilet paper, and wipes. One thing that is nice too is some baby diaper cream so your butt doesn't get raw from all the wiping. -
Pain when I lay down/get up from bed
JennCH replied to LG1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said it was from the stitches through the muscles. It does go away -
to mosh or not to mosh

Mosh pit for Pink Floyd. That is tragic. I always thought Pink Floyd was for sitting in the stands smoking some weird smelling cigarettes -
I'm almost 6 weeks out and still slime when I over eat...especially anything remotely dense.

is pasta really that bad for you, when you can only eat 2oz ?
JennCH replied to belle2304's topic in Food and Nutrition
This is kind of a conglomeration of the different versions I found around the internet. It tweaked it to my liking. Low Carb Ricotta Bake 80z ricotta cheese (I used the part skim) 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese 1 large egg, beaten Italian seasoning to taste (I used 1 tsp) salt and pepper to taste 1/2 cup favorite Pasta or pizza sauce (I use the generic whatever as I am not picky) 1 cups shredded mozzarella (more if you really like cheese) Hormel Turkey pepperoni slices Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Lightly grease (Pam is fine) 1 regular muffin tin. Can also be made as a casserole. I prefer the muffin tins because each one is a serving for me. Mix Ricotta, parmesan, beaten egg and spices in bowl. Divide mixture evenly into the muffin tin Mine made 6. I wouldn't use over tablespoons mixture in each cup Spoon 1 tablespoon or so of the pizza sauce over each portion and sprinkle with the cheese. I put 1 pepperoni on each cup and then cover with mozzarella and maybe some shredded Parmesan to taste. Bake at 450 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. -

The ricotta bake recipe has quelled by cravings for pasta. Quite yummy and easy to make -
Quite unprofessional on so many levels. HR should maintain confidentiality at all times. Why should they have contacted your supervisor for any reason? Good luck...

For all the nurses, doctors, and medical students!
JennCH replied to Puja's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
PM me and I can give you a lot more information about things. And I'll tell you that it is really easy to confuse the exhaustion of internship with the fevers from taking care of sick kids and the all over joint aches with just being an intern. My mom made an appt at the drs office and picked me up from the hospital and took me. Even called the program secretary and asked her to make sure I was at the front door at the exact time. I really think it is doable -

I am a physician, but in my office I can sip all day. What are you planning on specializing. Depending on the specialty, I think it would have been difficult as a resident or fellow, but keeping a water bottle in your pocket like Claudia suggested is doable. Premixed shakes are also very easy to carry and keep in the residents lounge fridge. I remember as a med student the ortho and surgery residents would always order extra ensure shakes for their patients so they could snag them on rounds. Unless you are in an uber competitive residency, I suspect your peers will be supportive. I know mine were when I got diagnosed with lupus as an intern. In my mind, obesity is as much of a disease as the lupus is. -
I am 5 weeks out and am having problems with fish that is any way remotely solid even when flaked into little bits. It doesn't help that I am having a hard time knowing when I am full. I take little bites, chew well, and go fairly slow. Any advice?

I'm glad to hear everyone is in the same boat. On Monday I will be 4 weeks out and haven't lost anything in about 7 days, but overall I've lost 17 since surgery. Will try to drink more if you guys thinks that it is a big help.
-
I used to take a handful of meds (5 to be exact). Unfortunately they were for things that the surgery wont help. Anyway, since surgery I has been very difficult for me to swallow them. I used to take them all at once, but now I have to take them slowly and then they always gets stuck in the back my throat. Any suggestions?

My doc gave me the approval for a regular multivitamin, but I've puked up ever one I've tried. I did get a new one the other day called a natures miracle MINI and it is a gel cap and actually went down ok and didn't come up
