    January Newbies ! Progress ?

Thank you for the update on the protein drink info. Geez, 5.00 bucks is kind of pricey I would say for one drink though.

Don't be disappointed. I had surgery on the 24th and I'm done 14 so we aren't much different. You will drop the weight!!

I didn't try it and I wish I had something. The pain from the gas they fill us up with was horrible for me. When I had my gall bladder removed they did the same thing but I came out of surgery with no pain, so I guess each time is different. Good luck tomorrow!!!

Oh ok... I'm using the Bariatric Advantage Protein meal replacement. But the protein in the Isopure is almost 25 grams of protein higher.

Hi Sassime, I am very new to this site as well. I find that this site is pretty useful. I can find answers to many of my questions and its such a motivator to hear all of these great success stories. That's exciting to hear about your up ad coming surgery date!! How are you feeling about it as its getting closer? Mindy

Hi Ashley, This could be different with each Dr. I was required through my Dr to take classes through the hospital's Bariatric program. . One was a behavior modification class, a support group class, nutritional classes and Pre op classes. It was basically add on classes onto your psych eval, meeting with the nutritionist etc.. I would check but I would assume your Doctor would tell you.. :-) Mindy

Hi Ashley, Congrats on your decision! I know you will be happy with it. Have you started any of the required classes through your Doctors office or group? I was able to speed things up on my end by getting the classes that my Dr required that I took prior to even obtaining approval for my actual surgery. I was already 100% sure my insurance would cover it since I verified that this procedure was covered before I started researching Doctors. Getting my classes down while was what took the longest because I started around the holiday's but I wish finished pretty quick because I was determined. My insurance approved my procedure in less then 4 days of being submitted and I was having surgery 2 weeks later. It was crazy how quick it all went but in away it was good because I didn't have a lot of time to freak out... Keep me updated!!! Mindy

Hi Ashley, 5 days post surgery and I am feeling a lot better then my first two days.. Wow, even though the VSG is laparoscopic, it doesn't mean it's not painful. (Don't let me scare you)... I would still have the surgery knowing its going to be uncomfortable. The only problem I found was that I had a real hard time getting rid of the gas they fill us up with so they can see everything inside of us easier. Some people have no problems at all with it. I struggled a lot with the discomfort of that mainly on the first day. But enough of my surgery.. Have you made a decision on switching to the Sleeve? How is everything going with that? Mindy

So in the clear liquid stage it wasn't so much what the liquid was, it was just to get it liquids as often as possible.?

    January Newbies ! Progress ?

Sleeved 1/24/13 Still recovering from surgery. First 24 hours were rough but as each day passes it becomes a little better.. My question is what I should be at when it comes to liquid intake. I was in only broth and Water until yesterday. My Dr wants me to try and bring in liquid protein if I can but I can just get water in right now. My total intake for the day is less then 8 oz's with everything. Is this about normal or am I just all messed up??
  12. I am 5 days post up and struggling to get a full 8 oz's of anything in for the whole day. I don't want to push it because I hate throwing up. What am I doing wrong or is this still very normal?

    Tired od sweet,sweet protein shakes

It gets easier as the days pass. It was tough for me the first 4 days but then it became like second nature. I couldn't eat much prior to surgery because I was so nervous so the last week of all liquids was much easier for me.

    5 days whoop whoop!

I had Surgery on the 24th but my doctor had me on a full two week liquid only protein diet. It was a killer but now it's in the past! I'm just 2 days post op and I'm still really run down. I've been sleeping a lot. Congrats to you all that have a Monday date!! Wish you the best...
  15. Sleeved on the 24th - 2 weeks prior I started my liquid protein and sat of surgery I was down 20 lbs. My doctor said surgery went well. I was in a lot of pain from primarily the gas that is injected into the body so they have a better look at the insides of us. I remember waking up telling my nurse I felt like I was having a heart attach. I will be honest, this went on for 24 hours. I was in the hospital for just over 24 hours and was released. It is so nice to be home ( well my parents house). My intake is very little right now. My DR wants me only on water and broth until tomorrow. I'm struggling just to get enough water in for the day. I am getting in about an OZ or so of water every 3 to 4 hours.. Any suggestions? Or does the intake sound about right?
  16. My doctor has been trying to encourage me to use the Bariatric Protein Shake mix but I have found some from the Vitamin shop that seem to be very close to what he wants me to use. The cost is a lot better as well. Anyone have thoughts on different protein mixes?
  17. I just attended my behavior management class and first nutrition class yesterday and I felt very much the same as you. I am 259 and at 42 BMI but being 5'6 I don't look extremely heavy. I actually got a few looks from others and I felt a bit uncomfortable at first. I know that with my health issues at age 41 having the sleeve is the best step for me. I am a single mom who takes care of my 3 children and I need to be here for them. I have made the decision to have this surgery for my health, not to just look better. Of course that's a great benefit that comes with it but it was not why I made the decision to proceed with it. You need to do what is best for you. Don't second guess your decision based off others.

Hi Ashley, About 2 years ago I planned to have the lap band. I was at the point of scheduling my surgery date when I decided to hold off on having the procedure done. I was concerned about having a foreign object in my body. During the last two years I have done a lot more research and met many people who have had the band. I found that more people had issues with the band when it comes to losing weight as well as complications with the band. A few actually had the band removed and had the sleeve procedure done and have had very positive results. I have heard that the first few weeks are difficult but in the long run it was well worth it. My sister in law was sleeved the last week of May and as of today she has lost 100 pounds. I am planning to be scheduled for my surgery the first part of Feb. just have one more class to take. I hope all goes well for you...
