My 5 +week checkup was quite frustrating. I had just broken my stall. I was happy. Preop I lost 30, post op 28 with 42 left to goal. My doctor said I must slow down to 2 lbs a month in order to prevent loose skin and hair loss. He said we loose weight for 18 months after surgery and that I would loose too much if I don't slow down. I would just like to loose the next 20, then slow down. I want to shop in regular sizes sooo bad. Any other doctors out there saying this? I don't see how just a couple of pounds is possible per month with the few calories we take in, even with the extra shakes he has me drinking. I emailed my NUT with no response. Frustrated!!

Will Mexican food ever taste good again!
gingerRN posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live in south Texas where the Mexican food is amazing! Or at least it was. I suddenly can't stand any of it. Especially my favorite refried beans. They now taste like metal to me. So strange. Thinking I had hypnosis during surgery ? Anybody else have problems with food tasting bad. Does it get better?? -

Has anyone NOT experenced hair loss that is 6+ months out?
gingerRN replied to fgotr121's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am six weeks postop tomorrow. Lost 59 lbs total (29 since surgery) 41 lbs to go. My doc insists I slow down to loosing a few lbs per month. He says loosing too fast will result in lots of loose skin and huge hair loss. He tells me we will loose weight for 18 months after surgery and we should use all 18 months to get the best results. Only problem is when u can only get in 1000 cal per day, My math says I will lose 2 lbs per week! That means I will be close to goal weight a year too soon. Thinking I will be loosing hair : ( -
My experience is that food is a hormonal response. When the hungar hormone was taken out with my stomach I lost majority of the urge to eat. It's kinda like the difference in sex hormones. I had a totally different reaction towards a good looking men as a hormone raging teen then I did as a postpartum new mom recovering from child birth. Now when I see food I have very little reaction to it. My hungar hormones are totally in control. But you have to really want this. No going back. Thank God. I haven't ever gotten up in the morning sad I couldn't eat donuts with my girls. Instead I get up grateful that my feet no longer hurt, and that I have a ton of energy. I don't miss one pound of the 58 that I have lost

New to the whole process, Aetna, What can I expect?
gingerRN replied to tonid2328's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Get everything in writing from aetna!!! 5 days after my surgery I got a rejection letter. Luckily they are my secondary! I was mad because I jumped thru all their hoops that my primary insurance didn't require. On the phone they said I was accepted, in writing it was a different story. -

Congrats !!! I hit the same mark this week. I've been telling my friends "woohoo I'm over weight not obese anymore!!" sounds funny, but feels great!!! -
I just remembered my PCP warned me that the actigall pills my surgeon has me taking would cause diarrhea. Anyone else taking this med?

I too was sleeved 12/10. Just ran home sick. Last few days it seems worse. Only plus is I broke my weight loss stall. It's the cramps that come with it that are killing me!!!!
-
I was beginning to think I would never break this stall. Sleeved 12-10 and dropped 19 lbs first to weeks. Then from Christmas until today I bounced up and down from 204 to 200.5. Few days ago I was 202. Then boom.. 198 on two diferent scales today. Woo Hoo I'm finally out of the 200's!!!!

Wavering...sleeve or plication?
gingerRN replied to AStephenson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tomorrow marks one month since my sleeve. Yes I'm cold alot but sure beats how hot I felt before. As far as stress- mine seems lower, even as I wean off my bp & anxiety medication. And what was the other concern?? Oh yeah memory... Just kidding! I've haven't had any problems, in fact I think its better. I find it much easier to teach & lecture now!!! -
I have been at a stall since Christmas. Lost 20 lbs then week three total brick wall. Worst part is I'm hanging right around 200- 204. I want to be in the 100's sooo bad!!!

Sorry just saw this question. Heb plus has it in their health food section around the Protein powders area. Very top shelf here, almost didn't see it. Put PB2 chocolate in vanilla fatfree yogurt... Wow!!

Disneyland 7 months post op? Good or bad idea?
gingerRN posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thinking of taking a vacation this summer. I will be around 7 months post op. Will I be eating most foods by this time just in small amounts, or will I still be having to watch what I eat carefully? Should my activity level be back to "normal" for me ? I don't want to invest in a Disney vacation and be miserable because I can't find appropriate food, or I can't keep up with the family. -
Tasty Treat & High in Protein
gingerRN replied to deedeemuffin's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Pb2 with chocolate added to my dannon lit & fit yogurt is amazing!!! 1 tbsp added to vanilla. I wasn't getting enough calories or protein in and this was a yummy way to do it! -
I am REALLY hating winter this year! I am freezing all the time since surgery. I am addicted to my heating pad. I live in south Texas and we normally only have a few cold days a year, but not this year. I was even wearing a coat and mittens at work yesterday. Prior to surgery I was always hot. Will I always be this way?? When I get off work I just want to hide under the covers and I'm not getting anything else done. That's not like me either. It might help I'd I could work out, but my doctor said not for six months. When I tried to sneak in walking a few laps at the gym I ran into my doctor on the third lap : (

Things I LOVE about my sleeve!
gingerRN replied to suepeeps's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1. Love that I have hope. 2. Love that I can look forward to trips to the beach or have pool parties and not stress about how to camo my body. 3. Love that I will no longer hide from the camera. 4. Love that I no longer beat myself up for over eating. 5. Love knowing someday I WILL share clothes with my girls. 6. Love looking forward to shopping trips with my friends when I can shop in the same stores. -

I LOVE Michigan in the summer!!! Hoping to go there this summer and then drive down to cedar point and ride some roller coasters that I WILL fit on!! But I can't imagine the winter. It's 41 here and I dread going out.

I vacuumed today at almost 4 weeks and started hurting after a few mins. I'm going with don't try again for another year theory : )

I'm very open too and have had all kinds of responses. Yesterday when a quite large coworker asked " why would u have that done??" I found myself skirting the truth not to offend her.
