January Newbies ! Progress ?
VSG_me replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the tip Success2013! I do need to invest in a scale before I move on to solids! I saw a few with good prices on Amazon. Sorry you were sick -
All Dr's have different guidelines of when to eat things so as always, check with your Doctor first. My Dr allows all foods by week 4 so I think this would be fine, just chew chew chew those crackers! Again, check with your doc first!

Getting Sleeved 1-29-13
VSG_me replied to xveronerox's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YAY! 3 weeks out for all of us today! I've lost 18 lbs so far. 14 of which came the first week (WOW!) and I've slowed down and even hit a stall during week 2. I weigh everyday and sometimes I'm even up a pound or so. I'm going to try to only weigh once a week but that's so hard to do LOL! I'm eating soft foods and doing well. I hadn't got sick from anything I've tried but today I had tuna from the can with a little light mayo - those couple bites I had tasted so good but as soon as it hit my tummy I was SICK! I held it together and it passed but it was rough! I had tuna just a few days ago and it was fine! Weird, but I guess it's part of the process. On week 4 I can introduce all foods back into my diet - hoping that goes better than the tuna did! I want a piece of chicken! -

3 weeks out today and down 18 lbs. 14 of which came off the first week. I'm happy though, may be slow going but I know six months from now these little losses will pay off! Been on soft/mushies for a week and have another week to go before I can have all foods! I can't wait! I want a piece of chicken so bad! -

Dr. Thomas Borland Post Op Questions
VSG_me replied to mrsderouen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shannon, I'm not sure if it has to do with starting weight or not, but I was 223 according to his scale and wasn't put on a pre-op diet (I did however get down to 219 on my own before surgery by not even trying). I just had to do liquids and drink the yucky stuff to clear me out the day before surgery. Not sure about the Advil, that would be something he could answer. -
Dr. Thomas Borland Post Op Questions

I had my surgery 1/29 and have lost a total of 18 lbs so far. I go in for my 3 week check up today. He is wonderful! Gives lots of info, answers any and every question you have and is on call 24/7. He's lenient and that for me was GREAT! I haven't had any problems with food on his regimen. I think most of what you asked has been covered by other posters. And don't worry, I was never tempted to taste while cooking for my hubby! You will do great, he is a wonderful Doctor. Nothing but good things to say here! -
Came across this article when reading about Ghrelin and how VSG removes the part of the stomach responsible for generating this hormone. I've found that even being only 3 weeks post-op, my craving for things I could never pass up before has completely gone. Thank goodness! It's so much easier for me now that I can look at a piece of cake and feel like "meh, I'll pass". http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-500164_162-543614.html

me neither - and sweets were my biggest vice.....not anymore! I can tolerate carbs easily with my sleeve but I just don't have that same craving like I used to.

I made a HUGE mistake and God Willing I will learn form it. Ate food 10 days Post-Op
VSG_me replied to rxkid2384's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Different things I eat are cream of wheat, mashed potatoes, cooked egg mashed up really good (and chew it up good!), pudding, Jello, cottage cheese, yoplait greek yogurt, laughing cow soft cheese wedges, no sugar added applesauce, grits, refried Beans with a little sour cream and cheese, and Soup. Also veggies cooked really well so that they are soft to mash up. I put butter, salt, and any seasoning I like. I have also had tuna from the can with a little Mayo and egg mixed in. Always check with your doctor first because each doctor is different. My Dr allowed these things. Hope this helps! -
What has your doctor told you to eat/or what not to eat over the next year?
VSG_me replied to Johanna1955's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. 4 weeks out I can eat/try anything I want. He did say opt for Protein first then veggies if I have room. -
TIS TIS eating poorly!
VSG_me replied to Julieann87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only about 3 weeks out but my dad is over a year out. He went from 350 to 195 and eats what he wants, just less. He even eats fast foods, hot wings, sweets, etc. I don't know if its the norm but its worked for him! He does still focus on protein first! -
I don't Love oreo cookies like I once did. I still like them just not like I used to. On the other hand, I really love Juicy Juice! It goes down so well and I can drink it all day if I'm not careful!
-
My surgeon suggested swimming or water aerobics also. He said its wonderful for the body. I plan on starting at my gym soon.

Good luck! See you on the sleeve side!

I'll be three weeks out Tuesday! Different things I eat are cream of wheat, mashed potatoes, fried egg mashed up really good (and chew it up good!), pudding, Jello, cottage cheese, yoplait greek yogurt, laughing cow soft cheese wedges, no sugar added applesauce, grits, and Soup. Today I tried tuna from the can with a little mayo mixed in and it went down well. Always check with your doctor first because each doctor is different. My Dr allowed these things.

Alas, they are sold out now....off the Sam's I go! Product Description Flavor: Chocolate Premier Protein single shake. One is not always the loneliest number you'll ever do. Now your favorite shake is sold as a single. This low fat, scrumptious shake has 30g of protein, only 160 calories and 2 gram of sugar. -

Thanks, I live in Louisiana and we don't have costco around where I live but we do have Sam's! -
I had the same thing happen to me and I'd posted asking about it before too. I'm two weeks out and have been able to eat fairly quickly and drink in regular 'gulps' with no problems. We are a few of the lucky ones! It just means you had an excellent surgeon and you are healing well! Good luck to you and no worries, be happy that you are having a successful recovery!

Prayers sent up - please keep us posted, I'm sure he will do well *hugs*
