  1. 1/29/13 surgery date, down 30 lbs
  2. There are plenty of people here just like you! I am one of them - I actually had a person I work with tell me "why did you do that, you weren't even that big" - and there were lots of others that thought it. I guess I "carried my weight well" for a big girl LOL Everyone has their own reasons for weight loss - and all need support! I didn't want to wait until I was 300+ lbs and much older (I'm already 31!) to begin my weight loss journey if I didn't have to--- and I didn't! My surgeon approved me as a low risk patient which was even better- I didn't have to stay in the hospital and my procedure was outpaitient! This was a preventative surgery for me and I've had zero regrets! I love my sleeve and am well on my way back to my size 8 jeans at the top of my closet! 2 months out and back in a size 14 and L top. *Hugs to you* I know you will find support here!

    January Newbies ! Progress ?

Thank you for that boost!! You are SO RIGHT! The reason I had this surgery was because diets and healthy eating/"lifestyle change" just didn't work for me, I could never stick to it! Now, I can still enjoy my Cookies - but just one or two here and there instead of 8-10 every day and I feel just as satisfied. And exercise?....I get my walking in from shopping and the added energy I have to get out and do things. No gym sweat and tears for me! LOL Life happens and I couldn't agree more with what you said. Congrats on your weight loss as well! You are doing awesome!
  4. Congrats! What a difference!! I'm a slow loser too - thanks for the inspiration today!

Why am I a Slowwwwwwwww loser?

I'm in the slow loser boat too! I'm 6 weeks out and have lost 24 lbs (14 of that was the FIRST WEEK!) So that makes the other 10 I lost about 1.6 lbs per week. I haven't been on here as much because there are so many opinions but everyone on this post said it right = we are all individuals! I am looking forward and not backwards. I WILL lose this weight whether it takes a few months or a few years. I could have never got as far as I have without my sleeve and that pleases me to think about it. I'm still in a size 16 and can still fit in most of my pre-surgery clothes, but I can't let that get me down! I just keep telling myself a "slow loss" is better than "no loss", and a "stall" is not a "stop"! NSV's for me: -people have noticed my weight loss, especially in my face -I can sleep on my side comfortably -I can wipe myself easily after going to the restroom (TMI but its true!!) -I can control my portions -I don't get sad when I walk in my closet - I know my size is going to go DOWN! Blessings to everyone on their journey's - especially the slow losers! Keep the faith!

    January Newbies ! Progress ?

Sleeved 1/29 and down 21.6 lbs! I'm so excited about what the coming months bring! I feel GREAT! Glad others are doing well too!
  10. What a good thread! Well it's not Sunday, but I wanted to post if it's ok I'm on my lunch break at work hee hee  I'm happy to have lost 20 lbs in one month. I've NEVER been able to say I've lost that much weight ever. My husband hugged me this morning and said "you're getting so small, my arms wrap so far around you when I hug you now!" that was a great NSV. Also sleeping comfortably again has been a relief for me! I still have a way to go before goal but I know I will get there. So thankful for my sleeve! Good luck to everyone and keep the good vibes coming!
  11. Congrats on your decision to move towards a healthier you! I had a lot of these same fears and questions when I started my journey. I'm almost a month out now and let me tell you, I have not regretted a thing! You're hunger will return but it's not a ravenous hunger. You'll just fill up faster and still feel satisfied. I eat whenever I am hungry and although it isn't an entire plate like it used to be, I can eat a little and feel just as full/content. Eating isn't a chore for me, but I do have to keep track of how much Water and Protein I'm getting in (I use MFP). It's not hard to do - it helps me keep up with my needs - protein and water being top priority after surgery! Sometimes I won't be hungry but I'll sip my water or a Protein shake (liquids are less "filling" on the tummy). So there's that, but I don't feel like it's a chore. Yes! This is one of the wonderful things about the sleeve You certainly will enjoy food again. One of my favorite treats before surgery was oreo Cookies....I could eat 6 or 7 after lunch and again after dinner! Now, I eat 1 or 2 at most after dinner some nights and I am full and satisfied. They still taste great, I don't have to make myself stop eating them like before. There are countless other things I love (including chicken wings!!) that I still enjoy but it just doesn't take as much for me to feel full and happy. I was nervous before my surgery. My husband waited with me until they brought me back for surgery and I cried the whole time! But I KNEW this is what I wanted to do, for him, for me, and my health. I just had a mind set that I had no other choice. The nurse will give you some meds to take the edge off as well once you're prepped. And let me tell you the truth - those first two days after were rough for me. But by day 3, I was up watching movies in bed. And I feel WONDERFUL! It's amazing how in so little time you will really begin to feel better and better. I would do it over again any day. Good luck, you will do great and feel great after! I promise!
  12. I'm almost a month out - I felt the same way! For me, I began to feel like I needed something with substance. I felt weak living on just liquids! Once you move on to softs/mushies you will feel much more satisfied and not as hungry. When I was released to softs, I had some mashed potatoes on the way home from my check up! I was so happy, I literally almost cried! LOL!!! Stay strong, take it from me, it gets much easier!

    Nervous

I'm almost 4 weeks post op and I was nervous. It hit me when I got to the hospital and put on the gown, I cried from the time they did my iv until the time I was given anesthesia LOL. It's scary not knowing what you're going to feel like when you wake up, recovery, etc. but they will give you meds to ease the nervousness once you are prepped. I've been there but trust me!!! It gets so much better!!! By day three, you will be well on your way to feeling more and more like yourself again. I would do it over in a heartbeat! You WILL be fine!!
  14. My Dr says gummies are perfectly fine. I take Flintstone gummies - two per day for adults and have been fine!

    Sparkling water?

It's one of those 'try it and see' things - but check with your doctor to see what he personally recommends. I know some Dr's say no carbonation, some say it's ok to try and see how you feel.

    So gross...

I've heard tomato soup can be less gentle than broth soups. My dad (who's post-op over a year now) tried it a few weeks out and felt the same. He said it was the acid in it that made him feel bad. He was able to reintroduce it later though.
  17. VSG_me

    I lost 4 more pounds!

You go girl!!! Way to own it! So happy for you

    2/19 Surgery

Glad you made it to the other side! I'm 3 weeks out and I can tell you although these next few days may be rough, it gets easier and easier and it doesn't take that long to begin feeling better! Congrats on your surgery

    Why Lie?!?!

This thread has gotten out of control - *unfollow*
  20. I have had pasta since 2.5 weeks out with approval of my doc. No problems here and still losing
  21. I'm finding that the more things I'm able to reintroduce to my diet, the better tasting they are. Today I had a small chili from Wendy's and it tasted SO GOOD! I've had it plenty of times pre-op and it was always 'okay' but nothing impressive. I ordered it today, one of the first things I've tried since I'm now on solids and WOW the flavor and everything was just so delicious LOL! I've found this with other foods too....weird?
  22. Yes, so true! I haven't had any major issues yet....my friend told me a story about her first encounter with a tator tot after surgery....NOT GOOD!!!! LOL! Needless to say she's x'd those from her diet! I'm not even going to go there after how sick the grease made her. I learned from her experience it just isn't worth it!
  23. I know what you mean about those dogs! I have a couple pups and you are so right - throw 'em anything and it just goes straight down the hatch! Nice reference to one of my favorite movies....."MY PRECIOUSSSSS"!! lol that was me with food!
  24. I had a small Wendy's chili (plain) but only ate half. It was so good! 105 cal 11 carbs 9 protein (stats for half of a small)
