protein drinks and drinking around them

Sounds normal. I have to sip on mine and after an hour or so I'll finally finish and it takes another hour before I'm done feeling full. I use the costco Premium Chocolate premade shakes. I have had a lot of people recommend them. ~Sabrina

protein drinks and drinking around them

I was told that it's the same as drinking fluids. I'm 4 weeks out and it takes me an hour or more to drink an 8 oz shake. I'm allowed to drink Water with it if I want. My dr even said to include it in my 64oz of liquids because I'm 'tiny' (accotding to my dr) I don't have to have all that water. ~Sabrina

Water hurts to drink

Post-op day four I was allowed cream of wheat, yogurt, and creamy Soups that are strained 1/2 cup every 3 hours. I was told not to do Protein drinks til day 7 - I'm looking forward to tomorrow I like Protein Drinks - they fill me up and I feel like I'm eating a lot of foods high in carbs right now. The protein will increase my energy. ~Sabrina

Water hurts to drink

What do you mean half? I'm struggling to get 64 oz of water ea day. Finally able to handle all temperatures but small sips is all I can manage and only of flavored drinks. 2 oz every 15 mins is VERY difficult. I can't do anything else. I have to eat every three hours between 7 and 7. I have to stop drinking 20 minutes before and can't drink an hour after and it takes me a good 20-30 mins to eat. I usually take one small nap since I'm only 6 days post-op, and I've been going to bed by 9. Last night I had my first battle with being sick. Fortunately I didn't throw up, but I over-did my day. Went shopping with a girl-friend then remembered I had to take my Mom to wal-mart. A 7 hour outing. I had Soup from a local deli that was sweet enough to strain it and measure it. A McDonald's snack size yogurt- sans the fruit or granola because I didn't pack a lunch. My besto was proud of me for finding options while out, but my body hated me last night. All day I was sipping propel but I went to bed with just 40 oz yesterday. I want to go back to work week after next - I'm hoping this part is better or I'm going to have to figure out a hands free method of drinking lol. ~Sabrina

surgery @ 8 am tomorrow.

I stopped the Lortab during the day on Wednesday. I took more Wed night only because I had cramps. Fun times - my aunt pays a visit at the worst time. No more though - not until I get some stool softeners. Not fun trying to go for 30 mins. I switched to quick release tylenol gelcaps and they are working great! ~Sabrina

letting my dog in bed with me.

Yeah - I find it silly now too. They just made a statement in the preop class about it and asked who had pets sleeping with them. When I said me, they advised to send him to a friend's for three weeks. Totally not hoing to happen. He'd have a cow. He'd find his way home by escaping and making the trek. So I just wanted to be sure nothing was so horrible about it. ~Sabrina

I adore shepherds. I had one when I was very young. I couldn't have her inside due to allergies. I have to stick to the hypo-allergenic breeds now because I firmly believe dogs belong inside. I'm doing fine - my incisions are starting to itch a bit but I think that's normal. ~Sabrina

letting my dog in bed with me.

Thanks for the great feedback everyone. I went for a car ride with him yesterday and he jumped up on me getting a side incision. Fortunately I was okay - just stung a bit. He only jumps on me when I'm sitting, never when we're in bed. I've guarded my lap with a bariatric stuffed moose i was given in the hospital. He has been trained well to sleep at my feet. Whenever my bf sleeps over and anything goes on he goes to his bed on the floor. He's well trained. ~Sabrina

letting my dog in bed with me.

Yeah - he was groomed the weekend before my surgery and he sleeps on top of the covers at my feet. So I don't see how it would be an issue either. Lets hope I don't jinx ot and get an infection lol ~Sabrina

Lol. I think they help us heal. He goes on all my walks with me. Even when I don't have anyone to walk with, I can always count on him. ~Sabrina
13. So I was told that my sweet 9 year old baby who has been sleeping with me since he was 2 months old couldn't sleep with me for three weeks post-op. It's okay if he doesn't see me go to bed and someone else allows him in their bed, but its also hard for me to not sleep with him. He's a sweet comfort and a natural foot warmer. Do you think the risk for infection is that bad that I should keep him out? ~Sabrina
