Christmas blessings to each of you! TracyK, many congrats to you for fitting in your dd's Dora tent, and a big congratulations to each of us for weighing soooo much less than we did last Christmas Eve! love, Cindy

Jenn, I'm so sorry for the loss of your precious pet. And Denise, South Carolina prayers are being said as I type this to you over your unborn grandchild. Pamela, God loves all of us, regardless of the paths we take. I know so (remember this from Sunday School when we were 4?) 'cause the Bible tells me so. Good for you to not let your love for another keep you from loving your Creator! Busy day here, but got my husband packed up for a week at our cabin in the mountains of northeast Georgia. He really does not relish all the Christmas celebration as I do, so this is a good compromise. He can be alone in the woods (he's an only child and both parents are deceased), and I can be with church family, my family and friends. We've tried to make "my" Christmas work for him for the 31 years we've been together, and Bill just can't accept the hustle and bustle, even though it's accompanied with love. Kinda sad for him, but that's the way my electrical engineer is wired. love to all this eve of Christmas Eve, Cindy (who has the three dachshunds for snuggle company while hubbie is away in the mountains)

Denise, Blake Matthew's video is incredibly magical. And the music is perfect. Thank you so for sharing this special moment with us. Judy, I think your Bob is right with the drinking/low $$. Really off to bed this time. 'Night all, Cindy

Evening all from balmy Charleston, SC! We are in the low 60's today with overcast skies. No rain, however, and we could really use some. Our lakes are WAY down. Terry, thanks so much for re-sizing my photos. When you get a chance, could you let me know how to do it so I won't have to bug you or startle the whole group with the gigantic photos? Your boss's daughter was certainly blessed, wasn't she? And how fortunate for her family considering all they have gone through this year. I'm sitting here nodding with all of you when you relate how tight you are...except when eating junk! I PB'd on a scrambled egg this morning. But potato chips and sugar-covered pecans, yep, they go sliding down. Judy, we all had outside cabins. And I'm glad we spent the extra $40 for them. It was fun watching the moonlit waves and also the lights of Nassau @ midnight when we were leaving port. Have you and Bob experienced so much drinking on a cruise? I'm wondering if because we were on such a short cruise. TracyK, how'd your trip go over to your mom's? Does she live far away? There are definitely crazy people on the roads, aren't there? 'Tis the season, it seems. And Pamela, how's the back? And the visitors? Wallyworld the Saturday B4 Christmas, Michelle? You're a brave woman! Laura, good going on having your internet shop on TV. Keep us posted. Today was fairly calm here. My husband and I had our standing Saturday date for breakfast, I delivered small gifts and a grocery store gift certificate to two Hispanic families that I know that are really hand-to-mouth, wrapped my niece's Christmas presents, and am eating my supper of KFC popcorn chicken as I visit with y'all. Tomorrow's kinda busy with the choir/handbell Christmas concert during our worship service, then out to dinner with husband and family (mom, stepdad, brother, SIL, and niece), and afterwards we'll be @ my house so my niece Tes can open her gifts. The adults counted our cruise together as our Christmas gift to one another. It really is tough to buy for an adult, isn't it ? We'll all be bringing our cruise photos, both those taken by the cruise photographers and the ones we took, and re-visiting our trip together. Off to look for a choker, per Judy's suggestion for lapband success. Oh, yeah, meant to mention, a surveyor who works for my husband has had his lapband for six weeks now and has already lost 40+ pounds. He does have a great deal to lose, however. Men sure do seem to have it fall off easier, I think. love to all, Cindy

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Okay, Violets, okay--the ticker is changed. I couldn't stand the guilt. And I also added a photo to the avatar. It's from Formal Night on the cruise. Cruise Details, as promised: My mother, brother, SIL and niece went on a 3-night Royal Caribbean cruise on the Sovereign of the Seas ship. This ship is one of the oldest in their fleet and will only make another 10 or so cruises and then is being sold to a sister cruise line in Europe. The ship was the largest of the bunch when it was christened in 1988 but now is among the smallest of the big passenger ships. It does look a bit dated but was not worn out looking. They told us on the ship that our passenger rooms were larger than newer ships, but that seems impossible that the rooms could be even smaller. All of us were on the 3rd deck, same floor as our Dining Room which was very handy. My 5-yr. old niece was to bunk with me but decided she preferred to stay with her mom and day--imagine three in a bed. So, I got the cabin to myself and it was a good thing. The rooms are tiny. Not big enough to swing a cat in as my grandmother used to say. I believe the room was 10 x 11 ft. There were two twin beds with EXCELLENT mattresses, very important for my poor back, a vanity make-up table with great lighting, a good-sized closet, and a small-ish bathroom. Two much information warning: the toilet was my least favorite part of the cabin as there was very little water in it and even multiple flushes were not adequate. Gross...! Okay, on to some of the highlights: The dining room and our two waiters were awesome. The food was so good--Mahi Mahi one night, lobster bisque, escargot, and the best appetizer on the trip was formal night and I had a chilled pear and cranberry soup. Yummmy! It was strained to a finer consistency than applesauce and chilled. Wish I had a bowl now. Only one PB the entire trip--on a roll, of course. You'd think I knew better, but I just can't resist real butter and had to have something to put it on right? Remember that our cabins were on the same floor as the dining room? Good thing that PB night. Continuing to talk about the awesome waiters--they were so very kind to my niece and referred to her as Princess Tes (Tes is her name) the entire time. She adored the extra attention as did the four adults who love her. You can bet those two kind men got great tips the last night of the cruise. And just to let you know how precious this princess is, here she is on formal night with $120 of Nassau corn-row braiding: Breakfast was good--either eaten in the formal dining room or at a buffet on the pool deck. The presentation of the food at each meal was so beautiful. Remember the pictures of Judy's cruise of the carved watermelons? We had the same thing. Here's a reminder: Hmm..what else did I love? The $10 store on board! Absolutely the cutest and best deals on evening purses, jeweled and fringed shawls and jewelry. I went hog-wild on buying evening purses in every color, not for going out, but for using for church. They are so lovely, and did I mention **$10**! What a steal! The evening shows were cute, only a tad cheese-y. :-) The excursions to Nassau and to CoCo Cay. In Nassau my brother and I visited the Straw Market and with his bargaining I was able to buy a Gucci purse for ONLY $40. And I'm certain that it's the real deal because the embossing "Gucci--Made in Italy" is in a straight line. I don't really care about name brands (refer to paragraph above on splurging on $10 evening bags) but definitely wanted to have a "leather" purse to remember my trip. Not sure I do really have one, but I do have the fun memories of my brother bargaining for me. CoCo Cay is the private island that the cruise line owns and was beautiful! Opportunities there to snorkel, jet-ski, and just float on a mat in the water. As the water was just a tad too cool for this chica, I had planned to go para-sailing, but the winds were kicking up too much that day so no para-sailing for anyone. I got to take the best-est hammock nap, however. The lunch, prepared by the ship's chefs and served by our waiters, was wonderful! Barbequed ribs, barbequed chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, tons of fresh fruit, I can't begin to list everything. Wow, this is a long post! Keep reading, girl, there's more to come... What I wasn't so crazy about on the cruise: The DRINKING! I knew there would be drinking on the ship but didn't realize just how much some would overindulge. Naive, that's me! An hour before the ship left port we had to have a lifeboat drill, and all the people standing around me were drunk to their eyeballs. Just after leaving port, my niece was swimming in one of the two pools on board with about five other children, and some drunk idiot adult just leaned over the edge of the pool and vomited right into where they were playing and swimming. Yech! The attendants were quick to hustle the kiddies out of the pool, however, and I give them much praise for that. I'm not a prude about drinking but choose not to since my middle and high school years were lived with a drunken step-father. My mother, sister-in-law and brother each had some drinks during the cruise, but not at all to the extent I saw on that first evening. Hey, those idiots could have been buying evening purses in the $10 store. Oh, and speaking of prices--my mom bought a margarita that was $15.00! WOW! The choppy water coming back from our last stop at CoCo Cay. Sure am glad Judy warned me to take Bonine before and during the trip. Thanks so much, Judy! Bingo! How can someone who enjoys bingo not enjoy it on a cruise, you ask. Easy! Six cards cost $20 and only were good for ONE game. RIP OFF! Conclusion: Aren't you glad it's finally here?!? Boat--B+ Trip price--$325--quite a bargain for three nights, four days, and great food Food /waiters--A+++++ Shops on board--A+ Cabin size--C- Toilet--F-- Drunks on board--F Time spent with mom, brother, sister-in-law, and niece during what would have been just hectic days before Christmas--PRICELESS And one final photo of me, my SIL (I love her so!) and my niece (who I simply adore!) love to all, Cindy

Denise, your Blake is amazing! Congratulations, Grandma! Suzie, thanks for bringing up the topic. I am not a good water drinker and have the same situation as you. A friend recommended Fiber Choice chewable tablets and all is has been well since then. What a relief! Haven't we had any CTC days this week? Surely someone would have told me!!! Nothing but the junk has seemed both tasty and go-down-able. A new day tomorrow, right? Cruise details to follow! Cindy, still @ 173 and refusing to change my ticker

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

My dear Violet sisters, I've finally caught up and am praying for each of you, particularly those of you who have had Christmas-time surprise health and money issues! Pamela, how's you back? I have had two herniated disks for the past four years and Naproxen kept the pain manageable but now with the lapband I can no longer take NSAIDs. So, I'm living with discomfort all the time and pain some of the time. Lortab 7.5/500 keeps me functioning as well as nerve blocks every three months. At one point this fall, my surgeon scheduled spinal fusion surgery for me since the 1st nor the 2nd nerve block had helped with the pain, and my tears convinced him that I needed surgery, my husband said. Two days after that visit with the surgeon, the nerve block finally kicked in. What a relief! The surgery was cancelled. I'm hoping your relief is quick in coming. And ditto about having someone to come in to clean the house--the best $$ I spend every two weeks besides the internet connection, of course. Jennifer, my prayers for you are so specific: faith in yourself and $$ to ease your burdens and your kitty to return. You are so very much in my heart. Mazie's mom, continued prayers for the recovery from surgery of your mom. TracyK, I hate, hate, HATE when office workers (been there, done that) are not included when the bonus $$ is shared. I'm hoping the stress of your Christmas schedule and move are not getting you too down. You are such an inspiration in your steady weight loss! And a few comments, praises, and questions: Michelle, when did you post the new avatar photo? I love the new 'do! Jane, your clients @ Curves are going to love you! You've been where many of them are and are so positive about working towards a goal. And what great timing to getting the key to the door--you just know there are lots of ladies who are waiting 'til after the 1st to join/re-join. TracyKS, I love, love, love the newest photo of your and your men! You look great! And the smiles on your guys tells it all--so worth it, even if you have to put up with rolled-eyes and wet toilet seats from time to time. Well, maybe not the wet seat... :-) Kat, what a beautiful writer you are. Your details are so well-written that I feel as if I'm right there with you, finding your husband in the snow, sharing your days with your granddaughter, the leaking roof of the gingerbread house. Thank you for taking the time to keep us posted. Laura, great photo of you, your kitty, the ornament, and the tree! You're looking fine, girl! Sorry to hear about DH's speeding ticket. Terry, you have jewels in your crown! Your experience taking care of you mom is a blessing for both of you as well as for us. Judy, I can't wait for your post on Sunday when you tell us you're so much closer to your newest addition to your bracelet. And a size 12 pants! What great news! Love the photos of your back porch chairs mounded with snow. So beautiful! Loved your new Christmas shirt and festive socks, too! I'm so sorry if I've skipped anyone. Please know that your victories and struggles are such an important part of my cyber-life. My next post will have cruise highlights, I promise. love to all, Cindy (now @ 173--ignore the ticker for now. But Jane, I too, love my band!)

Merry Christmas (minus 5 days and counting!) Violets, I'm back from the cruise and trying to catch up on all the posts I missed. Okay, Judy, enough talk about making fudge--for some reason, my band always allows fudge, cookies, cake, and all the other good stuff down without a problem. And speaking of problems--I gained 5 lbs. on the cruise. Wow, the food was sooooooo good: leg of lamb, lobster bisque, and so on and on and on. I've missed each of you and will write more when I catch up on the posts. Many thanks for the snail mail Christmas cards, ladies. Mine are heading out tomorrow. love, Cindy (no longer at the ticker weight--oh, well--it was a great cruise!)

((Terry)) I’m so sorry that your weekend was so miserable. ((Jennifer)) Hugs and prayers are coming your way as well. Laura, a 14 blouse! You go, girl! Judy, we’re going on Royal Caribbean and the ship is Sovereign of the Seas. Please keep your fingers crossed for us as it looks like Tropical Storm Olga may be in the Bahamas the same time we are. Who ever heard of a tropical storm in December??? Life’s such an adventure, isn’t it??? Having a small pity party here @ my house this evening. My husband could tell that I was feeling down and wondered why. My only answer was that I was a woman. I’m tired of being so very tight. I almost PB’ed on a fried egg this morning, and nothing tastes good this week. I truly am glad to have lost the weight so I just need to kick start my backside to get rid of my stinkin’ thinkin’. Nuff said on that subject! Michelle, of course, you only had three bags when you got back from shopping…you were buying little things for the stocking, right? 70+ pounds! WWWWOWWWW!!! Temperature update: 75 in Charleston today, beautiful, with clear blue skies and puffy clouds. Tracy, moving back into a house. Good for you! But I know how you feel about taking down the tree on Christmas evening. But a house!!! The bonus for your work. Night all, Cindy

Evening all, Laura, before this past week, I definitely would have agreed with you about it being better to be too tight, but I am PBing on EVERYTHING. Guess I won't need to worry about eating too much on the cruise this week. My Sunday School class had our Christmas Social this evening, and I had two bites of Pasta salad and one blondie and had to quit. Jeesh! We're going out of Port Canaveral for our cruise, Judy, and this is the first cruise for my mom, stepfather, brother, niece, and me; my SIL has gone on two before. It's a short cruise: three nights, one day in Nassau and one at Cocoa Key. I can't wait!!! Almost as good as waiting for the Secret Santa gift, Michelle sent out...except I didn't officially become a Violet until y'all had drawn names. Next year, okay? Bill's thumb is fine, thanks for asking, Judy. And I totally agree with Michelle--that is a wonderful photo of you and Bob and the babies. Kat, the story about Rick's employee just makes me want to go shake that man! What a goober! My cram-packed day is over, and I'm heading to bed. Blessings, Cindy

Kat, thank you for giving us the details of your arctic adventure. Wow! I'm so glad that y'all made it out safely. (understatement!) When I got to the part where you and your daughter's boyfriend had to abandon his truck and were walking, even though I knew you were alright, I became frightened for you. Welcome back to warmth and hot showers...so glad that this (mis-)adventure turned out as it did. Cindy

Good going, Jane and Laura and Judy! Today was busy with church, giving the final exam, and taking my DH to the emergency room. While I was at church, he was working on a small project here at the house and sliced the knuckle of his thumb fairly deeply. Lots of blood, and my husband really can't handle either seeing or giving blood, and here he had both. After an hour of bleeding before I came home, the ER fixed him right up. Kat, what's the word on your husband? Judy, glad you're feeling better! Vicks to the rescue! love to all, Cindy (deciding what to pack for my cruise this Thursday--YIPPEE!)

Prayers out for Kat’s snow-bound husband and son and to Judy in her drugged-up state and to Pamela’s Suzanne with Meniere’s. And Merry two-weekends-before-Christmas to everyone. Wow, what a busy two days I’ve had finishing Christmas shopping, decorating, and well, that’s about all, but it sure feels like I’ve been supremely busy. My niece’s Christmas program at her school was yesterday so the family en masse was there to support the only grandchild/niece in the family. Can you say spoiled? And this evening my husband and I drove through the Living Nativity sponsored by the First Christian Church in our town. They do an incredible job of re-creating Bethlehem, complete with Roman centurions collecting census taxes. Luckily, a kind woman is stationed at the entrance giving us the necessary denari. After church tomorrow I need to go give final exams at the College of Charleston. Silly schedulers for having all Spanish exams given on a Sunday afternoon from 4-7pm. Silly, silly, silly! Blessings to all, snow-bound or not, Cindy

Terry, what a sweetheart you are to encourage your mom to get/stay better by getting her out of rehab. You’ve a star waiting for your crown, I know. And Suzie, having your mom for three years, wow! More stars waiting for you. Being part of this sandwich generation is not easy, is it? But snuggling with the kitty on a snowy day makes everything worthwhile, I think, but I’d have to substitute a dachshund (one of my three) as my snuggle partner. TracyKS, your new photo is ADORABLE! You look like you’re 15 years old (in all the best ways). And a dear friend coming to visit; what a blessing for you. Go, Michelle, Go! Reminds me of Edgar Allen Poe’s poem: ‘Nevermore’ will your first two #’s be 25…yippee!!! Haydee, thanks for the kiss—I LOVE it! Smooches to you, too! Laura, here’s my explanation of MY bend-over belly: Gravity: It’s not just a good idea; it’s the law! Okay, maybe in our case, gravity is not even a good idea. Prayer for Kat: Dear Lord, please give me patience—RIGHT NOW! What a funny Christmas card memory you’ll have—this time NEXT year. Pamela, I’m so sorry to hear that your special sweetie has Meniere’s. My husband had it in 1989 and went through quite a trial with it before it was finally diagnosed and treated. He is doing so well now, and if you want any details about how he was treated, write me at hortonw@homexpressway.net Denise, your Secret Santa has excellent taste! So, now I’ve got to get to Victoria’s Secret tomorrow and hook up with those pj’s. Too, too cute and they look GREAT on you! Can each of you imagine what we’d all have looked like last Christmas in them? Ugh, my mind doesn’t want to go THERE. My apologies once more for such a long post, but posting only once a day makes me want to include just about everyone and recognize your successes and frustrations. I’ll get the hang on posting shorter messages soon, please bear with me. Today was fairly easy: tutoring Hispanic kids @ the local 4th grade school and then Bible Study during lunch, then a long winter’s nap. Ahhhh… Tomorrow will be a sweet one, I’m sure as my only niece (my mother’s only grandchild) has her Christmas program at school (she’s in K-5) and then some shopping and lunch with my mom. After that I’ll be going out with a friend to give children’s books to Hispanic children that live in our neighbor. My friend is a stay-at-home mom and just felt that doing nothing to help these children who have so little was not an option for her, so she started collecting gently used books from her friends and buying new books and once a month we go out and give them away. What a sweet blessing tomorrow will be. Happy Friday to all! Cindy

(Hugs to all)--and (((TracyK))) for your worried time about your sister this evening. My husband's Christmas dinner @ work was today at lunch and a female colleague of his who hadn't seen me since last year's Christmas dinner asked me if I were now wearing a size 8!!! Wow! I've never been an 8, and probably won't ever get there, but being back in a comfortable 14 and a slightly tight 12, is such a gift from last year. Thank you, Mr./Ms. LapBand inventor! All this talk about counting and Margaritas reminds me of something my college students have told me: One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, FLOOR! Rest well, my new friends, Cindy

Laura, WOW! Your face is so beautiful! And your body is tight--you go, girl! Suzie, glad you made it back home (almost) none the worse after today's testing and hoping for no more testing for you tomorrow. Kat, I hope your feeling lousy won't make you have to cancel your trip tomorrow. Question of the Day: What are those cottage cheese lumps I feel under the skin in my bat wings? Oh, yeah, probably all those slices of white break I ate over the years. Sigh... PB'd today at lunch with my husband. Luckily, there's always enough notice to get to the bathroom (at least so far), and while I've only PB'd five times since the band, I need to listen to my full stomach and not insist on being a member of the clean-plate club. Another sigh... Cindy

8-10 inches of snow?!? Judy, please send another photo of the snow in your backyard. Here by the coast in South Carolina, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence to have that much. Regarding the burst water pipe @ your church, isn’t there a hymn “A Rivers Runs Through It?” Glad your son Joe got the work though. Laura, the Half Moon Bay blue is lovely. And Apollo is the perfect Christmas ornament, I’ll sure he’d say! Michelle and Laura (and others!), aren’t pets just the funniest thing with Christmas decorations? My dachshunds (three, and only one of them is sorta slow; the other two are confirmed slow) always have to bark at the Christmas tree the first time they see it each year. Laura, Pamela, and Jennifer, you all are making me itchy to have my bedrooms painted something other than off white. And Jennifer, good for you for starting the protein shakes today. I love your reasoning about starting shakes on a day off from work. And totally agree with your comments about low-rise jeans. Just what I need is something to give me muffin-top below my waist—NOT! TracyKS—you look great in your new photos! And your smile simply glows!!! Crying and stress eating—thanks for pointing that out! Note to self: listen to Tracy. Suzie, Congratulations on your 25th Anniversary! Your stress test shouldn’t stress you out as others have pointed out. I think the only stress may be paying for it if you don’t have good insurance. You are in my prayers. Also, what’s your new job? And how did today go? Bill and I were both married (Bill-1.5 years, me 3 years) before our marriage to one another, and we will celebrate our 28th anniversary in January. Isn’t it such a joy to share your life with your soul mate? I wish this for each and every one of you. Kat, glad you’re getting a fun trip to Albuquerque, and not having to take your dad for doctor’s visits this time around. ((Michelle, another purple power hug for you)) Okay, you get that hug, but then it’s the kick-in-the-seat to follow the bandster rules, which include following the rules, but it’s okay to whine about them. We’re here to listen and love. Cause we’re all right there with you depending on the time of day. And my very first Violets’ boobie-nanner—what a great gift for someone who loves to listen to her head hunger. My posts always end up being so long, but as a newbie, I want to acknowledge your posts and belatedly recognize your help over the past six months to this lurker, now VIOLET! Let me end my post with a photo of my church’s float in the Moncks Corner (where I live) Christmas parade. This is the first time the handbell choir has been in the parade, and we had a BLAST. I’m the second woman from the right with my back to the camera and the only one ringing in this shot so obviously, I was off count (again!). Time to go await the Pasadena call with our invitation to the Rose Bowl Parade. Blessings to all and best wishes for a CTC Violet Tuesday, Cindy

I promise to catch up with everyone's posts from yesterday and today this evening, but I had to share a hard-won victory: -1 pound!!! And it only took 3 weeks to get it off. :clap2: Looks like this will be the way of losing for me, but I finally hit the 160's. Go, me! Go, me! Uh huh! Okay, enough self-promotion. Just think how much we (and especially I) could have gained pre-lapband in three weeks. Wow! Cindy, on the run

A Disney World surprise trip, Michelle?!? I’m also available if you need another person to tag along—Can y’all tell I LOVE to travel? My husband kids me that I only work so I’ll have $$ to travel. He’s a Vietnam veteran and says he’s gotten all the overseas traveling out of his system because of that. Judy, you and your husband are so fortunate to love to go on cruises together. My family (mother, stepfather, brother, sister-in-law, and niece) and I are going on our first cruise in two weeks as our Christmas present to each other. We’re very excited (understatement). My husband just won’t go. Sigh… We’re leaving from Port Canaveral, a 6-hr. drive from Charleston, for a 3-night trip to the Bahamas. Terry, I love the jacket you bought! Will you wear it with a skirt or dressy slacks? And please everyone, send more Christmas ideas for husbands. Mine is always the hardest to gift as well. Germany, Switzerland, Italy this summer? Pamela, let me check my calendar and get back with you and Susanne, but I’m pretty sure I can clear out the appts. When are we going again? And the California Castle looks like lots of fun. Thanks for sending the link. The costumes are great, too! Today was busy, busy: my husband and I had our standing-date Saturday morning breakfast, then my mom and I went to Mepkin Abbey, a Trappist monastery close to our home that has an amazing display of crèches every year.
