    Thanks for the information.
  2. Good luck to everyone having surgery today. God bless!

    day 1 liquid diet

I bought isopure premixed. I did buy whey powder for post-surgery but I haven't tried it, yet.

    day 1 liquid diet

I didn't buy the isopure (except one bottle), so I have been feeling hungry for three days. I did buy sugar free chewing gum just so I could have something in my mouth that wasn't going in my stomach. Good luck. I think you will be fine. The fact that you HAVE to do it is huge motivation.
  5. I am sure the isopure will taste better cold. I was able to drink it room temperature. The flavor is weird, but I can cope. The Soup on the other hand...Well, I think I would prefer real broth. I am also supposed to be "gluten free" and I am wondering if the cube tasted bad because they add monosodium glutamate to it. I have used buillion in recipes, but it is far more diluted in that situation. Hope your surgery goes well on Tuesday. God bless!
  6. My only saving grace by having the surgery this close to the holiday is that I am NOT expected to do any serious cooking until January (after my sister leaves from helping out with the kids).
  7. I only had a three day liquid diet with surgery tomorrow. The dietician told me that the thing people miss most post-surgery are fresh fruits and vegetables, so on Wednesday, I had a Greek salad with shrimp. I ate grilled fish tacos on Thursday (day before liquid diet) because that is another favorite. I love the crunch of the cabbage on the fish. I also ate one dessert on Thursday night. I think I was pretty restrained, but what you are saying is what I was thinking. "I'm not going to have ____for a long time if ever, so I would like to enjoy it one more time." The only thing I did not eat that I love is pizza. l wish I could have had one more slice. In a way, I felt like a prisoner having his "last meal."
  8. My specific pre-op instructions say: Bathe or shower the morning of your surgery. Your hair should be clean. No makeup, lotion, perfumes/colognes, jewelry or fingernail polish (day of surgery). Underarm deodorant is okay. Remove all glasses/contact lenses, dentures, jewelry, body piercings, and hair pins prior to surgery. Wear comfortable clothing to hospital. You must make arrangements for someone to drive you home from the hospital. 23-hour patient stay, so pack personal care items you will want after surgery. The hospital will provide a gown and towels. Does this help? When you go for your EKG and pre-op work, your hospital will likely go over their specifications with you.
  9. I am drinking my first isopure as I type. I can't say that I love it, but I could drink it without gagging and I don't think it tastes gritty. Maybe she was talking about the whey Protein? Re: broth - I know that real broth would taste better. I was just trying to do it the cheapest way possible, but I think I will have to crack open a container of broth from the store or maybe I will have my husband get me one more isopure (for "dinner"). I have to fast after midnight. My surgery is not until 12:30 PM tomorrow. I am glad that I have to be at the hospital by 10, so I will be out of the house and away from the kitchen. Just three days of liquid and 12-hours of nothing might put me over the edge. Re: nerves - Yes. I am doing this because I am relatively healthy, but have a life-long struggle with keeping weight off. My BMI is 42. I want to be healthier for my kids (ages 2-10), but ironically, there are risks with surgery and I think the thing that mosts upsets me is that if the unforeseeable happens (a clot breaks away and gets to my heart)...well, I would be leaving my kids motherless. But, at the same time, if I don't get my weight permanently under control, I may develop issues that shorten my life or reduce my quality of life further. So, I guess this is in God's hands now (getting through surgery without complications).
  10. COnative - Are you still in your home state? I live in CO currently. I will be having surgery at Parker Adventist. I was supposed to have Dr. Metz and he left abruptly to start his own practice in November. For insurance reasons, I have stayed with the same practice and now have Dr. Joshua Long. I love CO and two years ago, my family hiked up to Devil's Head. I was huffing and puffing the whole time. I am looking forward to having a lighter body, so that these activities won't tire me out quite the same.
  11. He told me the three days was to shrink my liver. It is a three-day, clear-liquid diet: diet drinks, decaf tea, Isopure, Jello, broth...stuff like that.

    Having issue wih meat

Are you craving meat? Because if not, then I would just stick to protein sources you enjoy...like the many mentioned: legumes, tofu or tempeh....Also, don't forget quinoa. Quinoa is a seed. You need to rinse it off before cooking, but once cooked, it is much like couscous. Quinoa has the exact same Proteins as milk, so that is why you are seeing it more and more in grocery stores. Very nutritious.
  13. 71 lbs in 3 months? Wow. The nurse who did my EKG on Thursday had a sleeve done 15 months ago and she has "only" lost 85 lbs in all that time. I think her experience is probably closer to "average." I was told that the sleeve usually yields slower results than the bypass. In any case, you do look fantastic and I am sure you feel fantastic, too.

You look great. Congrats on your success so far.

    day 1 liquid diet

Wow. A two week liquid diet? I have my surgery tomorrow and I was only required to be on clear liquids from Friday on. I ate normal food on Thursday. I wonder why doctors have such different ideas about how to get ready for surgery. I have only been drinking decaf teas and eating jello. I don't think I could do that for two weeks! It's a horrible time of the year to have surgery because of all the holiday food that surrounds me. (I have a husband and four kids.)
  16. They didn't say I had to eat protein. I just have to be on Clear liquids. I did buy one bottle of Isopure, so I think I should try it. I have heard that some people do not like it because it is "gritty." Need to find out what they mean by that. I have been mostly on decaf tea and Jello. I tried making broth using a buillion cube and it was so nasty.
