  1. Hey arthritis me. That name would fit me as well. To get weight off the joints is why I had the surgery. I lost a good bit of weight on Methotrexate too. I was 207 the day of surgery and I did not lose but three pounds in ten days. My surgery was dec 19. My weight two weeks ago was 197. I also had to stay two nights in hospital because I did not come out of anesthesia haze well enough to walk that night so I had more than enough fluids to shake. Also the less to lose the slower it goes seems like. Don't fret. It will come off. It seems like some do better once they start the real food opposed to the liquid phases. It's just all the Medicines given, IV fluids, and yur body simply trying to protect it's stores. Good luck to you! It will come off...

    Question

I'm five weeks out today and on full liquids for another week. I had a hiatal hernia repaired. Don't know if that is why on liquids so long or of it's to boost weight loss. I started out on sugary day at 207. Some have commented that this was a lighter weight than many patients. And I might lose slower. Don't know.

    diarrhea?

Oh oh I forgot. If taking proton pump inhibitor like Prilosec some folks get diarrhea until body adjusts to it.

    slim

No prob with PB. Bet it was the apple hands down. I'm 4 wks out and still on liquids but I tried some PB. Too soon for apples even if your doc is not as conservative as my ultra conservative one. Lol

    Weight lifting questions

Crftskathy, I know it. Drastically different. I'm sick of Greek yogurt but glad for it I guess.

Don't forget pain medicine will give you dry mouth also.

    Weight lifting questions

Mu doc has me lifting weights before I'm even off liquids. Get that. Three weeks out and lifting ordered but can't change eating phase until 1/31. I did have hernia repair but geez something seems off here. Good luck!

    diarrhea?

My diarrhea was the color of the broth or power ade zero that I drank while on liquids. I finally got it stopped about week three out on it's own. Doctor didn't want me to use too much Imodium in case it caused constipation later. So I didn't but I have to take pain meds for other issues and I'm not going #2 at all. Oh yeah the main color scheme was orangey red.

    Drinking Alcohol

Was told to avoid one Year or altogether. Best to avoid empty calories.
  10. Powerade zero is good and has electrolytes you need. I can't do Protein Drinks for all same reasons. I'm at three weeks out. Diarrhea was a big problem for me too. I now have no problems. I do now prefer bottled Water tepid over ice water out of my frig filter though. Much easier to get down and tolerate. Good luck.

    Will do. Thank you!

    RA in REMISSION!

Doxieville Lilaclass, Sounds like we have lots of junk in common on this adventure of life. I feel like autoimmune queen. Celiac disease, rosacea, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, RA, and then OA on top. It all sucks. Pain pain! I'm hoping weight loss sends pain for a long exile where I'm concerned. I am keeping it real so far though because I don't have a choice. Lost close to 40lbs since August but no good relief yet. Also, didn't know Celebrex was safe. Have to consider that. I see my rheumatologist on 1/10 for a checkup so I hope we can make some type of headway until I can take meds or injectables again. Good luck to you both with VSG and Arthur.

    RA in REMISSION!

Doxieville, Awesome news. I have seronegative RA. I have been miserable last two years now. I had the surgery to do all I could myself to help my joint pain and reduce the inflammation. I was sleeved 12/19/12 so I can't take any anti inflammatory meds or inject methotrexate until March. I am going to get steroid/pain meds injected into lumbar discs Friday. I hope it helps. Miserable and no sleeping is an understatement. I am so happy for you and so jealous! I hope you stay in remission ALWAYS!

    freezing ?

Im in MS and it has been cold here too but I am always freezing. Sleeping under three blankets and with a bunch of clothes on. Can't wait till it gets to be a100 degrees in June to see if I stay any cooler than usual when it is hit enough here to boil eggs on the pavement! Lol

    December 19th sleevers

Have you talked to your doc about all the vomiting? I was sleeved same day. I have been slightly nauseated on about two occasions. I also had hiatal hernia repaired. I don't eat a lot but I eat yogurt, pudding, etc. No issues. You shouldn't be vomiting like that. Do you take a proton pump inhibitor? Like Prilosec/omeprazol ? I take 40mg every morning. Man. That sucks. I hate you are having this kind of trouble. Doc needs to intervene. Cause you definitely need some help. I do not think you should be even remotely experiencing what all you are. Keep us posted and much best of luck wishes to you!

    Third week

Hi 12/19/12 sleever. I am still on liquids till 1/31/13. Had hiatal hernia repair also. My doc didn't even give me a daily protein goal which I am thinking is an oversight for now or either he knows I'm nit going to get it all in anyhow and just wants things to heal well...? I'm not that hungry so I can't complain and nothing really hurts enough to mention. The incisions pull some on left side but that's about it. Energy level is low but I have bad arthritis pain in back and knees so the weather is keeping me miserable there.

    All of my December sleevers...

Dec. 19. Down 20 lbs on 12/27 at postoperative visit 1.
  18. I was sleeved 12/19. On full liquids until 1/31. My liquids as in drinks are all supposed to be sugar free. I am also only allowed sugar free puddings and no fruit pcs yogurts. Lowest Greek preferred. I also had a hiatal hernia repair so I don't know why so long on the liquids unless that or if just that my surgeon is really conservative. He did tell me I had a great looking small sleeve. Don't know. Good luck!
  19. Hi,, I'm a Dec. 19th sleever as well. I'm still working thru the same feelings. This is hard stuff mentally and emotionally. I was thinking the surgery might be more physically challenging for me but luckily and thankfully so far it has been the easy part. I have bad arthritis which has made my life miserable in addition to lumbar disc problems. I was not as obese as many and got some strange looks. You know that "well, you carry it well" comment. I had the surgery to try and get my life back. Less pain hopefully and easier mobility. I'm only 44. I don't want to be a huge burden on my spouse or kids. At least if I am smaller life will be longer and easier on all concerned. You have most likely prolonged your valuable life by having the surgery and given/gained time with your loved ones. Just make life about each other and not food. Remember you only need to eat to live but not the reverse. It will get better. You are just normal and need time to adjust. Best of luck. You will be alright! Better than alright in time!
  20. Hi, I was sleeved 12/19. My weight restriction of nothing over 10lbs was to last for three weeks. I also had hernia repair the same. Sounds like you might have over done it especially for some of those internal muscles etc that were cut maybe? I will say that I still have pain on the left side and stay very bubbly and gurgley feeling a great deal. I can feel things sort of roll around it seems when I turn over in bed also. Maybe things are just shifting and settling....hope you get a good report. Good luck.

    Back Pain And The Sleeve

Hi, I have both knees, feet/ankles, and your same back problems in the lumbar area. My arthritis is both RA and OA with the disc disease. No NSAIDS is hard to handle and the liquid lortab does nothing for my pain really. Sleeved DEC 19th and right now miserable. Having steroid injections in back Jan 4th. I think I made the right choice due to having the extensive need for arthritis meds. Good luck and know you have someone out here who can totally relate.
  22. Hi All! I was hoping someone out there with arthritis could tell me what they did about having lots of joint pain post sleeve and being unable to take anti-inflammatory meds. I was also started on Methotrexate for several months up until time for sleeve prep and I am miserable. I believe the liquid lortab is giving me hives and insomnia so I am down to children's Tyleonol which just is a joke for pain relief. Any advice?
  23. I had a surgery day much like you. Pain and anesthesia overload. Once you shake the anesthesia with enough fluids going through you will start to feel better. However, follow the advice of the others and tell your nurse. I had drips of both tylenol and ibuprofen in addition to iv pain meds and then liquid. It all gets better soon. Good luck.
  24. Me too. Sleeved on 12/19. Sick of clear liquids and diarrhea. The weight is coming off, but I don't feel good. Thought I might be a little happier about the whole ordeal but havent seem to get there yet. Hope to find out something new tomorrow at first checkup. No straws allowed here either. I guess we have to just hang in there for the fun of it all....Lol.
  25. Hi ShyV, I'm a fellow 19th sleever. Do you know when you will be able to go beyond Clear Liquids? I had a hiatal hernia repair also. I am getting sick of 3 weeks of nothing but clear liquids. Don't go for checkup until tomorrow. Thanks!
