I'm not proud of this....but....

Burger King chocolate shake - stomach ache, the big "D" and full blown hives - will never do that again - GROSS! -
Hi ladies, I just wanted to point something out to consider. I take topamax as well just recently. I was sleeved 12/19/12. I am working up to 100mg daily. Currenlt on 75 mg at night which is three tiny 25 mg pills. Next week I titrate up to the larger but still smalls an m&m 100mg pill. I have reached the 3mos mark of my surgeon on crushing all meds. He now requires me to crush meds larger than an aspirin /or m&m. So I will be okay but the med instructions did say not to break or crush.BUT my topamax is not the extended release which is a bigger deal when it is crushed or chewed. I would be very concerned if you are speaking of crushing or chewing topamax extended release. Also just FYI my neurologist also confirmed it was okay to crush to regular topamax non extended release. Good luck to you all. Hope this helps.

Anyone have to do a 4 week pre-opt diet?
thepick4u replied to KatieOkieDokie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery at 224. I was at 207 the day of surgery. -
It is cheap for me with my insurance. Very little out of pocket. I get them mailed to me 3 mos at a time. Cheaper than ten dollars every Friday but I do pay for insurance so it might not be when all that factored in if you are self pay for them. Don't know.

Questions About Hair Loss and Highlights...3 months post-op

Walmart has a dissolvable biotin supplement in purple bottle. It's great for slivers. Just the right milligram that my doctor prescribed. -
The mind is a scary, scary thing!
thepick4u replied to mezanne1401's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah. I'm having that same issue. Having to get myself to stay on track because before I did not have the large enough mental picture that yes. I am that big. I am now in the same pant size as my daughter but it's a 12. I'm 8 weeks out so I still have a lot of work to do. Trying to keep the correct mental picture. -
How to break a stall?
thepick4u replied to LindsayRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 8 weeks out and I can easily get in 64 ounces of fluids no problem. I am trying to drink even more water at doctors recommendation to flush out the molecules of fat, etc that the body is breaking down. I have been getting all my fluid in since the beginning of week two. I do prefer room temperature water and power ade zero. Those two are mainly what I drink. My doctor never recommended protein drinks as a have to. I did not tolerate the milk or whey based pre-op anyhow. He wants me to get my protein first from food always and carbs last. I was also kept on liquids for 6 weeks so to all of you that were able to eat any real food puree or not before then consider yourselves lucky. Lol. I was sick of yogurt and cottage cheese. Needed some crunch. My teeth forgot how to chew significantly I think. They have since been reintroduced. -
Questions About Hair Loss and Highlights...3 months post-op
thepick4u replied to Vidalia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get all over highlights and get the whole head lightened. I had it done at 4 weeks out. No more thinning than normal for me. Mine is long and I also take methotrexate for arthritis which thins the hair as well I hope at 3 mos I'm not bald but hope not. My hairdresser could not tell any difference and I have not seen any more shedding yet than I normally did before. Summers coming and I live in Mississippi. I may just shave my head and out on a ball cap if it all falls out. I will stay cooler that way. Lol. But if I have hair it will continue to be lightened and highlighted as long as I can afford it. Good luck and best wishes on many more happy hair days! -
Powerade zero is great too and has electrolytes. I love G2 as well. I also tolerate those better than water. Girl 5 days post op is not anywhere near long enough time or you to have come anywhere near close to being at your pre op energy level.

Looking for inspiration

I was 12/19. And at 6 week visit down 32. I'm okay with my progress. Sounds like you aren't that far behind. Are you exercising daily and lifting weights? -
Yes to internal stitches. The left side inside and out gave me the most pain until about two weeks out and was pain free afterwards. I'm 71/2 weeks out.
-
Yep. Hiccups cause your full. Prob too full. I get the burps when I'm ready to stop.

I feel great. 7 almost 8 weeks out. Surgery went great. Down almost 50 pounds from highest weight. 32+ since surgery 12/19. I have RA and degenerative disc disease that I am under treatment for so I exercise but can't do it as intense as others and am on hold from lifting weights. But I'm very satisfied with my progress. Have gone from size 18 jeans to 12 since operation. I got sick from an allergic reaction to something cause I broke out in hives and had nausea/ vomiting & the big "D" but not surgery related. I posted about but doc says no worries and I feel great two days after. Is all good!

Trying to understand what might be happening. Please help.

Okay I have had this happen full blown two different times. Once at 5 weeks out and now at 7 weeks out. I go to bed having no issues. I wake up around 2:00 a.m. And then both times I took a few sips of something to drink Water first time and Powerade zero last night. I go to restroom just to urinate and then Right back to bed. Within 5 minutes both times I immediately get severe stomach/gut cramps and nausea that is bad. I continue cramping and have several bowel movements getting more loose each time until diarrhea starts. Both times my mouth watered and I heaved one time but no vomit just some saliva only and then no more gagging episodes. But my cramps were so bad that last time and today I can barely straighten up I'm so sore. Last night was worse and this happened. I broke out in totally red blotch on my face. Neck and chest solid red. Each 6 of my incisions were swelled up and red blotches. Had some rash looking stuff where at the bra line and then the lower half remaining of me was okay. My hands were really red and there were blotchy rash like bumps on my wrists and the same in the bend of my elbows. I know I reacted to something I obviously ingested but it was nothing new that I haven't eaten before now. On a couple of other nightsin the last week I have woken up to feel like my stomach was a little upset but nothing major and I went back to sleep and had no issues. My status is I have been on food for a week. I was on liquids for first 6 weeks. He doesn't prescribe a specific puree or mushy phase just wants us to chew food until its that way before swallowing. I do take 40mg of Prilosec every morning before any food or drink. I am really hurting some over that left side where the incisions used to pull during the early days. But as bad as I cramped last night all hurts. Do y'all think I'm allergic to something or possibly have a leak causing this? I appreciate your input. I'm calling the doctors office as well but I think he does surgery on Fridays. Thank you! -

Thanks. Love the picture! -
Maybe you could help me.......
thepick4u replied to determined4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. It's normal but be careful of dehydration. Vomiting because of won't help a thing. Powerade zero is a good friend to get to know. Has electrolytes you need. Also I could not tolerate cold drinks either. Room temp bottled water went down much easier and hot tea or broth. Also I am 7 weeks out and still prefer bottled water like that e en over filtered water out of my refrigerator. Please sip all the time and do as many Popsicles as you can stand. If they had sugar substitutes in them they could give you a little diarrhea but not everybody is bothered. I wasn't and Popsicles were my friend too. Good luck. It can be difficult at first. I now can get 32 ounces of liquid down pretty fast now. In less than 15 minutes if I need too. Just steady sips but never gulping. -
Mine are just monthly. What causes then to be needed weekly? If you don't mind telling. I also take a Thiamine -B-1 100mg supplement daily in addition to 2 chewable Flinstone vitamins, calcium 2 Citracal petites, and a dissolvable biotin supplement. Thanks!

Any Other Dec 19th Sleevers?
thepick4u replied to Lauren610's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Dec. 19th sleevers.I am almost to 50 lbs lost. Just now found this post! That is 32 from surgery and the other lost since last April at my highest weight on prediet. Sounds like for the most part all of us are doing GRRRREAT!!!!!! I'm in MIssissippi as well Bryant0203 -
I recommend consulting a personal trainer or finding one of the many knowledge filled folks at a local gym. Many are usually more than willing to help you learn to do things safely and properly so you don't hurt yourself. My doctor pushes lifting weights as soon as he releases you from surgery @ 3 weeks. For both sexes. The more muscle you have the higher your metabolic rate is and the faster you burn calories even while resting. Goodmluck.

I'm six weeks out. Was approved to exercise at two weeks. I have been riding an hour per day for four weeks with good results. Good luck and congrats!
-
These work and your joints enjoy it much more than exercise out of the water.
-
I'm finally pooping so I'm hoping it breaks the six week stall. Lol!

Calcium...is there any other way to get the required amount and avoid the horse pills?
thepick4u replied to Rachele's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm using a liquid brand sold at Walmart. It's Wellesse brand and tastes sort of like a citrus/tropical drink flavor. Not bad at all. I will use it until I can resume the soft chews or the pills later. -
If you don't want the surgery and are seriously honest about your calorie intake you need to consult an endocrinologist who will do a full metabolic workup on you. I have two friends that don't even know each other but both have children with metabolic disorders both causing their children to be obese. I know one child takes 4 200mg of Meformin tablets at bed each night to help along diet and exercise keep his weight gain down as much as possible. If you aren't familiar with this is a whopping dose of Rx med use by diabetics type II to keep blood sugar down. You could have a metabolic disorder often hereditary. There's were. My other thought is with the surgery removing the grehlin sp. Hormones maybe that would have a significant impact? Don't know. Good luck on your decision.
