Calling all floor nurses or aides

I am a floor aide on a med/surg floor and I took one month off.

    Insomnia!?!?

I had trouble with insomnia for the first couple weeks postop. I took melatonin and that helped a little and now I'm back to my normal sleep schedule (I'm a little over a month postop now). When I couldn't fall asleep I'd read or find a random movie on Netflix to watch. Hope you get more sleep soon!

    Sleeping..... or not

I am having this problem as well. I have been taking melatonin the past week 30 minutes before bed and I am noticing a difference. I'm still not sleeping like I did before surgery, but I feel like I'm getting rest. As you can tell by the timing of this post, I am up late today but overall I feel my sleep is getting better with the melatonin. Hope this helps and you get more sleep soon!
  5. Every time I try to take my chewable vitamins I end up incredibly nauseous or throwing them back up. This has happened with two different brands. I'm ordering a liquid brand to try to see if that helps. Just wondering if anyone else has had any issues and what vitamins have worked best for you?
  6. I slept in a recliner for three days then went back to bed. Now I use a body pillow to help cushion everything when I lay on my side.

    Having a hard day. :(

Thank you everyone for your encouraging words...I really appreciate it!
  8. I was sleeved on May 30 and am on full liquids. I was handling everything okay until today. Today I am incredibly irritable, and tired and I'm sick of Soup, Protein shakes, Jello, pudding, and yogurt. I'm sure some of this is in my head but it's making me sad. My fiance is doing his best to be supportive but he definitely doesn't fully understand. I am sorry for complaining...I guess I am just hoping to hear from some of you that are further along in your journey with any advice for staying positive and getting through the rough days. Thanks!

    Outpatient?

Hi Ladylaura, Do you know if your surgeon performs outpatient surgery on all of his patients? I am scheduled to have my surgery as an outpatient on the 30th. I had to qualify to be able to have outpatient. I had to be under a certain BMI, not have sleep apnea, etc....basically be a lower-risk patient. If I didn't qualify, I would have spent a couple nights at a hospital. As an outpatient, I have been given my prescriptions of meds to take at home (anti-nausea, pain, and acid reducer) and I will have to return the following day for IV fluids to help prevent dehydration. But this is something I feel comfortable with...it sounds like you are a little unsure? Maybe you could talk to your surgeon and see if that helps you feel more comfortable with the idea of outpatient surgery? If it doesn't, then maybe look for a surgeon who will let you stay at a hospital for a few days. I think you should do whatever makes you feel like you're getting the best care as possible. The surgery is going to be life changing and you want to be confident in the person who's performing it and providing your aftercare. I hope this helps. Best of luck to you!

    Tightening Loose Skin

I am also having surgery on May 30th and loose skin has been one of my bigger worries. I'm hoping that being younger and weight training will benefit me, but I guess I will have to wait and see...Best of luck to everyone having surgery on May 30th!
  11. Hi Michele, No worries about being nosey...this is probably the only place I've been comfortable enough to be open about everything in regards to weight and such. My BMI at the time of submission was 50. I didn't really have any big co-morbidities except for I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. My surgeon's office told me that Aetna is generally one of the faster insurance companies they've dealt with. And a nurse from Aetna actually called me before I heard from the surgeon's office to tell me that I had been approved. I hope you get your approval very soon!
  12. I am scheduled for May 30th with Dr. Billing in Edmonds at Puget Sound Surgical Center. I hope the rest of your steps to surgery goes well and you get your surgery next month! So your husband has hiked Mt. Pilchuck...that is near my neck of the woods! Is it an easy hike or something to work up to? I'm hoping to be more active outside this summer with my family and I think we'd all enjoy a little hiking.
