Watching a good friend go through gastric bypass was a wake up call. I was just as big if not bigger as i am taller than my good friend. Surgery changed everything about her life. Everytime we would get together, she glowed and couldn't stop talking about how happy she was. Through her year of melting the bad habits of the previous lifetime, each time I saw her...there was something new...a new bone that would come into view, non-scale victorys, crossing her legs, buying clothes anywhere she wanted, new attention from men, respect from people who wouldnt normally give it. The list goes on and on. My journey started roughly while watching my friend become a healthy happy version of herself. I attended a weight loss seminar in 2010, and was all the way up to submitting for insurance when low and behold I was given a job in the city. Knowing I would be without good friends and family close and a new routine to get used to..I backed out of the surgery. Here it is 2 years later, I have a stable job, great friends and really feel ready for any life change to come my way. I demanded my parents attend a seminar with me because without their support and "blessing" it would be a much more difficult jorney to embark on. After the good doctor put everything out there including statistics on obesity from the CDC, it was a no-brainer. Suddenly considering this as a valued option was crucial after seeing such devestating facts. Happily I had my family on board with me. (Phew! I'm already beginning to feel myself changing knowing that I've made a decision to do this for me and will have support from the people who matter the most.) I began telling my friends and was surprised at how warm and welcoming they were to the news. Every new approval was making me stronger. Starting to visit doctors, even though current results were scary to me and embarassing at times knowing that they are all on my team and want the same things I do made it a joyful process. Yes that scale should never read that much, oh my the blood pressure is out of control, fitness test...lol don't get me started! The whole time I had a mantra I kept telling myself...(In one year....everything will be different. EVERYTHING.) I'm keeping my focus, making healthier changes to make this a success and learing as much as I possibly can to ensure I stay focused and make this a change that will endure. So look forward to making this step and enjoying the journey of the road to Healthy.
