I am having the hardest time not cheating on my pre-op diet! My surgery is Aug. 8th and I have to do a 2 week, clear liquid only diet. I do really well all day until about dinner time. The thing that gets me is I know some other people get certain food, or only have to do 1 week or 3 days before surgery and still are fine. What were you allowed on your pre-op diet and how long did you have to do it for? (Im curious cuz doctors are so different!) Did everyone have willpower of steel and went a full 2 weeks with no cheating??? or does everyone cheat a little bit??

I NEEDED that as well!

I was the exact same way, the closer I was getting to surgery, the more my eating got out of control. I was just freaking out about not getting to eat all my favorite things for a VERY long time. Now here I am, my surgery is in the morning and Ive been crying cuz Im so sad about losing my food! Which is why I need this surgery in the first place, I need to get control over this!

What Did Your United Healthcare Cover?
JPSnAZ replied to DreamsOfSkinny's topic in Insurance & Financing
YOU SHOULD CALL!!!!! My doc's office said I needed 3 years of weight history being over BMI of 40 per my insurance. I wasnt over 40 for 2 of the years so my docs office said I would be denied. I called my insurance and they said "Your plan doesnt require weight history" and emailed me a print out of my requirements. You should know your benefits so things like that dont happen. -
Hating Myself & Afraid Less than 6 Weeks Out...Long Post...Needing Support

I will definitely have to check that book out! Anything that will help... the mental part of this journey is what scares me the most and Im scared that when I have my surgery I will have the exact same struggles as the OP. -
I Can't Wait To Not Have To...
JPSnAZ replied to BrickHouse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can not wait to go through my closet and throw away (or give away) ALL my clothes and start over. I cant wait to be able to go to "normal" stores and be able to shop in the mall. Not having to go to plus size stores or sections of the store. -
Anyone have 6 month diet waived by insurance?
JPSnAZ replied to hurley911's topic in Insurance & Financing
Yikes!! Theres no tellin! You know how insurance companies are... but since you're working with a high level manager and they are discussing your case, I would imagine you have a pretty good chance. If not, thats messed up because you could be super close to having your surgery already. Most insurances allow the diet up to two years previously so you shoudlnt have to start all over. -
I had my seminar Jan 2nd... so Im still in the beginning stages!

Well now we know you are a republican and bank at BofA! LOL! I really like those pill containers! I need to get some of those when I have surgery. I really like that you can just pop one in your purse and go! Thanks for sharing.

I started a thread about whether or not to tell people a while back. At first, I was not comfortable telling anyone at all and wanted advice on what to say when people asked. After hearing what everyone had to say I totally changed me perspective on it. WHY LIE? Theres no reason to and I would have never known about this option or considered it if it werent for someone I knew having it done and talking about it, so if I can help someone else have this AMAZING life changing opportunity, then why not? I might feel differently if I worked in a small office (like I did before) where gossip can just go wild but In my situation, I have no one I want to hide it from. Ive actually told all my closest friends and they have all been super supportive and actually excited for me! So no negativity like I was originally scared of. The more open you are about things, the less people talk crap and gossip.... anyone can just ask you questions rather than assume and make up wild stories of how you got skinny. Thats been my experience anyway!

I just had my first appt with the surgeon a week ago and I should be having my surgery in July. I have already started mourning the loss of food, just knowing that things will severely change. I guess because of this, lately I have been eating more of the things I love since I wont really be able to (& shouldnt) eat these things anymore. My fiance has been getting upset with me and my eating habits lately. He doesnt understand what its like to be fat or to love food (as much as I do). He says that I shouldnt eat like this just because Im getting surgery. I know I shouldnt. But if I could help myself, well I wouldnt be fat then would I? It just makes me mad.... He has no idea what its like and yet he criticizes me about it. I know things are going to change and I just need time (& I have it) to process it before the surgery. I have my 1st psych appt next week so I hoping it will help too.

I am in the process of getting sleeved with Dr Schuster too! Ive only had my 1st appt with him, but so far I really like him and the staff at Banner Gateway!

Thank you, I know that I will eventually not want my favorite foods anymore, Its just hard imagine it right now! I just cant wait til my surgery date is sooner & here! Its hard to prepare mentally when its so far out. And it is comforting to know that I can still eat everything I want and it will be nice to just WANT one or two bites and be done. Im just having one of those days I guess.

When do you let your employer know?
JPSnAZ replied to punzel426's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me personally, I would wait about a month before to tell them. I think its a long enough notice but not too far away to where they would forget to take you off the schedule for a week. But it all depends on your work and how they do things. -
Alcohol and 2 weeks post op!
JPSnAZ replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know someone who uses Vodka to strip paint off some of their crafty things they do... Hmmm? IDK. Doesnt really matter to me, I was just sayin'. Probably not a smart thing to drink alcohol 2 weeks after surgery, but like I said before. Its her body! She can do as she pleases! -
Alcohol and 2 weeks post op!
JPSnAZ replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would be WAY too scared to drink THAT soon... Cant it cause a leak? I would imagine it could since some alcohols can strip paint.. What would that do to a healing stomach? Its your body, but I would just be careful. Complications of any sort are no fun. Not worth having a drink to me. -
My nutritionist said because the gummies don't absorb as well as a chewable Vitamin since it chews into a powder rather than little gummy pieces. Also they don't have some of the key Vitamins we need. So they aren't recommended. But I suppose they are better than nothing if you can't tolerate ANYTHING else.
